  11. Functionality:
  12.  
  13. The Icon Editor is a paint style application for creating,
  14. converting, or editing image files of bitmaps, icons, or
  15. pointers.
  16.  - You can use up to two colors at a time by selecting the color
  17.    on the palette and clicking the left or right mouse button.
  18.  - You can access the Icon in the
  19. the icon in the productivity folder and the General page of the
  20. Settings notebook to edit an image file.
  21.  
  22. Limitations:
  23.  
  24.  - The Icon Editor may not load or edit a files saved in 2.0
  25.    format.
  26.    Save the files in 1.2 format and the files should be able to
  27.    open and be edited.
  28.  
  29.  - Opening a large bitmap file, (640x480x256), displays the
  30.    "The bitmap is too large to process" message.
  31.    Select the OK push button to load the file.  It takes several
  32.    minutes to load and only a poriton of the image displays.

  34.  - The "Save State on Exit" option, when checked under
  35.    Preference, returns to the default options when you restart
  36.    of the Icon editor.
  37.    The problem was addressed in APAR PJ09732.
  38.    The fix was made available 3/1/94 in ServicePAk XR06200.

  40.  - CTRL+S function keys is running Save instead of Save As.
  41.    The problem is being addressed in APAR PJ12121.  The current
  42.    fix is is to use the mouse and select Save As on the File
  43.    menu.

  46. CREATING A NEW IMAGE FILE
  47. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  49. 1.  Open the OS/2 System icon.
  50. 2.  Open the Productivity folder.
  51. 3.  Open the Icon Editor icon.
  52. 4.  Select File on the menu bar and select New.
  53. 5.  Select the figure type you want to create and select OK.
  54. 6)  Create the image on the pad.

  56. SAVING AN IMAGE FILE

  59. 1.  Select File from the menu bar.
  60. 2.  Select Save from the pull-down menu.
  61. 3.  Type in the filename. Icon files use the ICO extension,
  62.     bitmap files use the BMP extension, and pointer files use
  63.     the PTR extension.
  64. 4.  Select the drive and directory for the file.
  65. 5.  Select the Save  push button.
  66. 6.  Select the format for the file, 1.2 format is suggested.
  67. 7.  Select the form to save the file and select the save
  68.     push button.

  70. OPENING AN IMAGE FILE FOR EDITING

  73. 1.  Open the Icon Editor in the Productivity folder.
  74. 2.  Select File from the menu bar.
  75. 3.  Select Open from the File menu.
  76. 4.  Select the drive and directory the file is located in. The
  77.     file list displays file names.
  78. 5.  Select the file to open.
  79. 6.  Select the Open push button.

  81. REPLACING AN OBJECT ICON
  82. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  84. 1.  Highlight the icon to be changed and click once with the
  85.     right mouse button to bring up the menu.
  86. 2.  Select the arrow to the right of the word Open.
  87. 3.  Select Setting to open the Settings notebook.
  88. 4.  Select the General tab to go to the correct page.
  89. 5.  Change the Icon.

  91.  The icon can be changed in two ways:.
  92.  
  93.     A)  Drag and drop the new icon over top of the Current icon
  94.         displayed on the General page.
  95.     B)  Select Find and type the Folder and path of the image
  96.         file for Name. Select Find.

  98. Instructions for converting a BMP file to an ICO file can be
  99. obtained by requesting item CQLWF.  For further information on
  100. the Icon Editor, refer to the Help provided in the application.
