  11. This document provides information for OS/2 WARP MMPM/2 and its
  12. new features.  If you are using an unsupported sound card, you
  13. must contact the manufactuer for support.  Only the Audio
  14. boards listed are supported under OS/2 WARP and MMPM/2.
  15.  
  16. Installation
  17. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  18.  
  19. MMPM/2 is fully intergrated into Selective Install.  If
  20. you want to install a feature of MMPM/2, you must do
  21. Selective Install.   Do not run MINSTALL.EXE from an OS/2
  22. Window.
  23.  
  24. MMPM/2 installation AUTO DETECTs the supported device in the
  25. machine.  However, it does not automatically configure
  26. IRQ,,DMS,,I/O settings.  You must know which settings to to use
  27. based on the jumpers set on the devices.  YOu can run RMVIEW /XXX
  28. from and OS/2 Window to see the IRQ, DMA, and I/O being used
  29. currently in the machine.

  86. A. Sounds repeating after boot up or during play back of WAV
  87.    file:
  88.  
  89.    1. Always IRQ conflictions.  Refer to the documentation to
  90.       find the IRQ settings for devices installed on your
  91.       machine.
  92.  
  93. B. No system sound or Hangs after installing MMPM/2
  94.  
  95.    1. Make sure IRQ's , DMA's and I/O address are not being
  96.       shared by other devices.
  97.  
  98. NOTE: Make sure address 330 is not being used by any other
  99.       device.  330 is used by the sound card for the MIDI port.
  100.       Usually ADAPTEC cards uses this address.
  101.  
  102.    2. Check jumpers on Sound card.  Make sure they match what you
  103.       selected for the sound card during Selective Install of
  104.       Multimedia.  Check CONFIG.SYS.
  105.  
  106.    3. Wrong card selected during Selective Install of Multimedia.
  107.  
  108.  
  109. C. SYS 1201 error on sound card driver after installing MMPM/2:
  110.  
  111.    1. Make sure you have the card installed in the machine.
  112.    2. Make sure you are using a card supported under MMPM/2.
  113.    3. If you are using a Sound Blaster ( 8 Bit ),  make sure the
  114.       card is at DSP 2.0.  The DSP chip is labeled CT 1351.  It
  115.       needs to be at that level for the card to work under OS/2
  116.       2.1 and MMPM/2 1.1
  117.    4. You may have selected the wrong card during the Selective
  118.       Install of Multimedia.
  119.  
  120.      Run RMVIEW to check resources currently used in OS/2
  121.  
  122. D. WAV files sounds are truncated.
  123.  
  124.    1. Check the device statement for the sound in the CONFIG.SYS,
  125.       for example:
  126.  
  127.       DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\SBP2D2.SYS 1 1 5 220 4 /N:SBAud1$
  128.  
  129.        4 is the buffer value that can be change to 2,4,6,8
  130.  
  131. Make sure you are using the latest MMPM/2 drivers for your sound
  132. card.  Contact the respective manufacturer for these drivers.
  133.  
  134.  
  135.  MMPM/2 Applets
  136. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  137. A. Error "Desired action not supported or card may be defective"
  138.    when starting the DIGITAL AUDIO program.
  139.        1. Usually a hardware conflict. Check IRQ,DMA,I/O address.
  140.        2. Another session or application may be using the Sound
  141.           card.  Device sharing is not allowed.
  142. B. Playing Software Motion Video (AVI) from CD-ROM. Video is slow
  143.    or jerky.
  144.        1. If you are using a CD-ROM that is connected to the CD-
  145.           Interface of a supported sound card:
  146.           a. Make sure you are using the latest driver from
  147.              the manufacturer (TMV1SCSI.ADD and SBCD2.ADD )
  148.           b. Make sure you are running at highest resolution
  149.              and at least 1 meg of memory on the video card.
  150.  
  151.  Other Problems
  152. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  153. A. After installing MMPM/2 customer can no longer get their DOS
  154.    apps to produce sound using a SOUND BLASTER.
  155.  
  156.    1. Install the DOS drivers for the card.
  157.    2. Make sure the IRQ,DMA,I/O address match what was set during
  158.       MINSTALL.
  159.    3. From a DOS FULLSCREEN, go to the directory that was created
  160.       for the DOS drivers.
  161.    4. Run SBMIDI.
  162.    5. Go to the PLAYMIDI directory and
  163.       type the exe.:
  164.  
  165.                            PLAYMIDI JAZZ.
  166.  
  167.    6. This plays a midi file and also initialize the sound card.
  168.    7. Press Esc to stop the midi file from playing and run the
  169.       executable for game.
  170.  
  171. B. You have MMPM/2 installed and go to a DOS FULLSCREEN
  172.    and play the game.  When you exit, the system sounds begin
  173.    to repeat or loop.
  174.  
  175.    1. IRQ conflict - Make sure IRQ,DMA, I/O address match what is
  176.       in the CONFIG.SYS for the MMPM/2 driver for the sound card.
  177.  
  178. TIPS
  179. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  180. A. Reel Magic
  181.  
  182.    1. MMPM/2 provides support MPEG playback using Reel Magic.
  183.       You must select both Reel Magic Audio and Reel Magic Video
  184.       options.
  185.    2. Sound Blaster cards are the only cards under OS/2 that
  186.       support MPEG Audio.
  187.    3. Run in 640x480 256 colors if you are using a Reel Magic
  188.       card in their machine. Higher color modes result in
  189.       upredictable results. This is a hardware limitation of the
  190.       REEL MAGIC card.
  191.  
  192. B. Digital Video
  193.  
  194.    1. Digital Video supports playback of AutoDesk 3D .FLC / .FLi
  195.       formats.  It also provides playback of Audio with the
  196.       file.  If you want to play an AutoDesk file and also
  197.       have an Audio file to play with it, you must:
  198.  
  199.       a. Have a .FLC or .FLI on the hard disk, for example
  200.          TEST.FLI
  201.       b. Have a .WAV file with the same name as the AutoDesk File
  202.          in the same directory.  For example,
  203.                        TEST.WAV
  204.       c. Open Digital Video. Select File open and load TEST.FLI.
  205.          Choose play. The movie starts and plays the .WAV file
  206.          with the same name.
  207.  
  208. NOTE: AUDIO and VIDEO sync will not be working. If the .FLI file
  209.       is shorter then the .WAV file, the Audio continues after
  210.       the movie stops. This is working as designed. You need
  211.       to edit the .WAV file to match the .FLI length.
  212.  
  213. C. Thinkpad Audio
  214.  
  215.    1. There is no MIDI support with the Thinkpad Audio Drivers.
  216.       This is a hardware limitation of the Crystal Semi chip on
  217.       the PLANAR CS4231.
  218.  
  219. D. WINOS2 Audio Support
  220.  
  221.    1. OS/2 WARP  supplies the WINDOWS drivers for the supported
  222.       SOUND CARDS in MMPM/2. The sound card you select during
  223.       installation of MMPM/2 determines the Windows drivers
  224.       copied to the hard disk.
  225.  
  226.      They are not automatically installed in WINOS2.  You must
  227.      run the Control Panel and choose Drivers to install the
  228.      Windows drivers.  These drivers help you configure the
  229.      WINOS2 session with sound.  If there is a problem with the
  230.      drivers, contact the manufacturer of the sound card for
  231.      support.  They are being supplied as is.
  232.  
  233.      If you have a problem with the supplied Windows drivers,
  234.      contact the respective manufactuer for the most up to date
  235.      drivers.

  237.  
  238.  Removing MMPM/2
  239.  ---------------------------------------------------------------
  240.  Do not use Selective Install or Selective Uninstall to remove
  241.  MMPM/2. Use the following procedure to remove MMPM/2.
  242.  
  243.    1. Backup OS/2 CONFIG.SYS
  244.    2. Edit the CONFIG.SYS, removing all MMOS2 statements.
  245.    3. Delete the Multimedia Folder
  246.    4. Perform shutdown and restart the syste.
  247.    5. Remove the MMOS2 directory and sub-directories.
  248.    6. Run Selective Install to install MMPM/2.

  251.  Contact the manufacturer for file updates and location.
