  5.        Subject:  Most persuasive questions in MMPM/2 CD-AUDIO
  6.

  8.        A. PAS 16
  9.              1. Make sure customer is using the latest TMV1SCSI.ADD
  10.                 from Mediavision.
  11.              2. Customer will add this driver to the config.sys as a
  12.                 BASEDEV statement.
  13.              3. Then customer will perform a selective install for the
  14.                  cd-rom usually it is a NEC 74 or 84.
  15.              4. Shutdown and reboot.  Customer should be able to play
  16.                 CD-AUDIO.
  17.                 * If not able make sure selective install put a BASEDEV
  18.                    statement for NECCDS1.FLT (This filter file is needed
  19.                    to play CD-Audio).
  20.              5. If the .FLT is not in the config.sys then do the following.
  21.                   a. The file is located in a packed file called CDROMFLT
  22.                      and placed on different diskette labels depending
  23.                      which build level of OS/2 you have.  Follow the chart
  24.                      below to locate the file on your particular version.
  25.  
  26.                   ** 2.1 GA 3.5 Blue labeled located on DISK 10 **
  27.                   ** 2.1 GA 3.5 Pink / Salmon labeled located on DISK 6 **
  28.                   ** 2.1 GA 5.25 located on DISK 19 **
  29.                   ** 2.1 GA CD-ROM located on DISK 10 **
  30.                   ** 2.1 OS/2 for Windows 3.5 located on DISK 9 **

  32.                    b. Use unpack.exe to unpack CDROMFLT to load the filter
  33.                       file into the \OS2 directory.
  34.                    c. Edit your config.sys and add the BASEDEV statement.
  35.                       Shutdown and reboot.
  36.        B. Sound Blaster
  37.              1. Make sure customer is using the latest driver ( SBCD2.ADD )
  38.                 from Creative Labs.
  39.              2. Customer will add this driver to his config.sys as a BASEDEV
  40.                 statement.
  41.  
  42.                 EX.  BASEDEV=SBCD2.ADD /P:xxx
  43.  
  44.                 /P:xxx - I/O address of the sound card.
  45.  
  46.              3. Customer will then perform a selective install for CD-ROM
  47.                 support and will choose OTHER.
  48.              4. Shutdown and reboot.
  49.                 Customer should be able to play CD-AUDIO.
  50.              5. If customer is not able to play CD-AUDIO then do the
  51.                 following.
  52.                      a. If customer has an internal CD-ROM connected to
  53.                         the CD-ROM interface of the sound card then he
  54.                         will need to install the DOS drivers for the card in a
  55.                         DOS fullscreen and then run the MIXER utility.
  56.                         Then they will be able to boost the volume level of
  57.                         the CD-ROM.  This will remain this way only if the
  58.                         customer does not cold/warm boot the machine.
  59.  
  60.                     ** This is a hardware problem and Creative Lab is
  61.                          currently working on it.
  62.  
  63.                     ** Customer can also try and download the latest
  64.                         MMPM/2 drivers from Creative Labs BBS.
  65.  
  66.                      b. If customer has an external CD-ROM and is running
  67.                         a line out from the CD-ROM into the Line IN of the
  68.                         sound card then the customer has two choices.
  69.  
  70.              1. Download the latest soundblaster driver's for MMPM/2
  71.                 (SB_OS2.EXE ) from Creative Labs which fix the LINE IN
  72.                 set to zero and resetting the FM chip for DOS applications
  73.                 that produce no sound after installing MMPM/2.
  74.              2. If they cannot get the new drivers as a workaround they
  75.                 can open up the Digital Audio applet in the MMPM/2 folder.
  76.                 Which will set a nominal number for the Line IN volume.
  77.                 (allows pass-thru to line-out).
  78.  
  79.        SYSTEM SOUNDS
  80.  
  81.  
  82.        A. Sounds repeating either after boot up or during play back
  83.            of WAV file.
  84.              1. Always IRQ conflictions.
  85.                    a. Make sure customer refers to his manuals to find
  86.                       out IRQ settings for devices installed in his machine.
  87.        B. No system sound or Hangs after installing MMPM/2
  88.              1. Make sure IRQ's , DMA's and I/O address are not being
  89.                 shared by other devices.
  90.  
  91.           * NOTE * - Make sure address 330 is not being used by any
  92.                           other device.  330 is used by the sound card for
  93.                           the MIDI port.  Usually ADAPTEC cards will use this
  94.                           address.
  95.               2. Check jumpers on Sound card.  (Make sure they match
  96.                  what the customer choose for the sound card during the
  97.                  MINSTALL.  (Check CONFIG.SYS)
  98.               3. Wrong card selected during the MINSTALL.
  99.  
  100.        C. SYS 1201 error on sound card driver after installing MMPM/2.
  101.               1. Make sure customer has a physical card in the machine.
  102.               2. Make sure customer is using one the supported cards under
  103.                  MMPM/2.
  104.                      a. SOUND BLASTER ( 8 BIT, DPS 2.0 )
  105.                         SOUND BLASTER PRO ISA or MCV (OPL2, OPL3)
  106.                         SOUND BLASTER 16/ASP and new jumperless ( 16 BIT )
  107.                         IBM M-AUDIO (16 BIT)
  108.                         Pro Audio Spectrum 16/STUDIO (16 bit)
  109.               3. If customer is using a Sound Blaster ( 8 Bit ) make sure the
  110.                  card is at DSP 2.0.  The DSP chip is labeled CT 1351.  It needs
  111.                  to be at that level in order for the card to work under OS/2 2.

  113.                  and MMPM/2 1.1
  114.               4. Customer chose the wrong card under the MINSTALL.
  115.  
  116.        D. WAV files sounds are truncated.
  117.               1. Customer can go to the device statement for his sound in
  118.                  config.sys for example:
  119.  
  120.                  DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\SBP2D2.SYS 1 1 5 220 4 /N:SBAud1$
  121.  
  122.                * 4 is the buffer value that can be change to 2,4,6,8
  123.  
  124.                ** Always make sure you are using the latest MMPM/2 drivers
  125.                     for your sound card.  Contact the respective manufacturer
  126.                     for these drivers.

  128.        MMPM/2 Applets
  129.  
  130.        A. Error " Desired action not supported or card may be defective "
  131.            when starting the DIGITAL AUDIO program.
  132.               1. Usually a hardware conflict ( check IRQ,DMA,I/O address)
  133.               2. Another session or application may be using the Sound
  134.                  card.  Device sharing is not allowed.
  135.        B. Playing Software Motion Video (AVI) from CD-ROM. Video is slow
  136.           or jerky.
  137.               1. If customer is using a CD-ROM that is connected to the CD-
  138.                  Interface of a supported sound card.
  139.                     a. Make sure customer is using the latest driver from
  140.                        the manufacturer (TMV1SCSI.ADD and SBCD2.ADD )
  141.                     b. Make sure customer is running at highest resolution
  142.                        and at least 1 meg of memory on the video card.
  143.                     c. If all criteria has been met above refer customer to
  144.                        ServicePack for OS/2 2.1 or MR1.  Software Motion
  145.                        Video playback has improved performance in the
  146.                        new release of MMPM/2.
  147.  
  148.        Other Problems
  149.  
  150.           A. After installing MMPM/2 customer can no longer get their DOS
  151.               apps to produce sound using a SOUND BLASTER.
  152.                  1. Have customer download the latest drivers from
  153.                     Creative Labs BBS (SB_OS2.EXE) .
  154.                  2. If customer cannot get new drivers current work around
  155.                     as follows:
  156.                        a. Have customer install the DOS drivers for the card.
  157.                        b. Make sure the IRQ,DMA,I/O address match what was
  158.                           set during MINSTALL.
  159.                        c. From a DOS FULLSCREEN have customer go to the
  160.                           directory that was created for the DOS drivers.
  161.                        d. Have customer run SBMIDI.
  162.                        e. Then go to the PLAYMIDI directory and have customer
  163.                            type this exe.:
  164.  
  165.                            PLAYMIDI JAZZ.
  166.  
  167.                        f. This will play a midi file and also initialize the sou
  168. nd
  169.                           card.
  170.                        g. Customer can then hit the ESC. key to stop the midi
  171.                           file from playing and then run the executable for game
  172. .
  173.          B. Customer installed MMPM/2 but when going to a DOS FULLSCREEN
  174.              and playing his game and then exiting out system sounds begin
  175.              to repeat or loop.
  176.                 1. IRQ conflict - Make sure IRQ,DMA, I/O address match what
  177.                    customer has in his config.sys for the MMPM/2 driver for his
  178.                    sound card.
  179.  
  180.          ** Files names on Creative Labs and Media Vision are subject to change.
  181.              Contact the manufacturer for file updates and location. **
