OSINSNIF - NO PROMPT FOR MS-WINDOWS DISKETTES/NO WIN-OS/2 SUPPORT

OS/2 FOR WINDOWS AND WARP SNIFFER WORKAROUND -(NO PROMPT
FOR MS-WINDOWS DISKETTES, OR NO WIN-OS/2 SUPPORT)

SYMPTOMS:
If installing OS/2 for Windows and one of the following occur:
1. No error stating that Windows is NOT on the system
2. No prompt for Windows diskettes during install
3. Install completes and there's no WIN-OS/2 support - it
won't start
4. No option for install of WIN-OS/2 support is available in
Selective Install.
RESOLUTION:
1. WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI, PROGMAN.INI and CONTROL.INI need to
be restored.
2. Run Selective Install.
PROCEDURES:
1. Open an OS/2 Window on the desktop.
2. Change to the Windows directory. Type:
X: CD WINDOWS and press Enter.
X is the drive where Windows is located
3. Edit the WIN.INI file, type:
E WIN.INI and press Enter.
4. If the message Embedded Null Characters is returned,
select Continue Loading File.
5. Make sure the following section headings are present:
[Windows]
[Desktop]
6. If the headings are present, save the file.
If no file type is selected for saving a file in the
editor, select Type, then Plain Text, then Set.
If the headings are missing, restore WIN.INI from a backup
diskette or system, or unpack it from the Windows diskette.
7. Edit the SYSTEM.INI file, type:
E SYSTEM.INI and press Enter
8. Repeat steps 5 - 7 looking for:
[Boot]
[Keyboard]
9. Edit PROGRAM.INI. Type:
E PROGRAM.INI
10. Repeat steps 5 - 7, looking for:
[Settings]
[Groups]
11. Edit CONTROL.INI. Type:
E CONTROL.INI
12. Repeat steps 5 - 7, looking for:
[Current]
[ColorSchemes]
13. When all the files are saved, exit the editor and
OS/2 Window.
14. Go to OS/2 System, select System Setup, then Selective
Install.
15. Select OK at System Configuration screen.
16. Selective Install of WIN-OS/2 support should be
available.
17. Complete Selective Install of WIN-OS/2 support,
selecting only Configure current desktop at Advanced
Options screen.
