  12. Disable Cache, Shadow Ram, and Turbo.   (Packard Bell need not
  13.                                          disable these features)
  14.  
  15. It is highly recommended that your Video should be in VGA Mode
  16. (640 x 480); Disable Autosensing, and if possible, put your Video
  17. Card in an 8 bit slot or mode.
  18.  
  19. When using a RESPONSE FILE to install OS/2 2.1, it is suggested
  20. to make ALL install selections in response file BEFORE the
  21. installation.
  22.  
  23. NOTE:  Always use the copy of a diskette - never use the
  24.        original program diskette.

  27. COPYING THE RESPONSE FILE TO DISKETTE 1
  28. =======================================
  29. Use the following procedures to modify a response file and put the
  30. file on a copy of diskette
  31.  - UNPACK compressed files using the UNPACK.EXE on diskette
  32.  - Any reference to UNPACK should be performed from the hard
  33.    disk.
  34.  
  35. Modify diskette 1 to copy the response file to a diskette.
  36.  
  37. 1. Make a copy of diskette 1 and place the original diskette with
  38.    the program diskettes. You only modify the copy.
  39.  
  40.      DISKCOPY A:  A:  (to use the same drive as source and
  41.                        destination)
  42.      DISKCOPY A:  B:  (to use different drives as source
  43.                        and destination)
  44.  
  45. 2. Type the following to delete files from the copy of
  46.    diskette 1.
  47.  
  48.               DEL MOUSE.SYS
  49.               DEL BUNDLE
  50.  
  51. NOTE:  This step is not necessary for CD-ROM installations.

  53.    A. Type:      DEL  SYSINST2.EXE
  54.  
  55.    B. If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel
  56.       computer, type the following to delete the file on
  57.       the copy of diskette 1.
  58.  
  59.                 DEL    IBM1*.ADD
  60.  
  61.    E. If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a non-Micro Channel
  62.       computer, type the following to delete the file on
  63.       the copy of diskette 1.
  64.  
  65.                  DEL  IBM2*.ADD
  66.  
  67.    F. Edit the CONFIG.SYS on the copy of diskette 1.
  68.       Change the SET OS2_SHELL statement from:
  69.  
  70.                    SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
  71.            to:
  72.                    SET OS2_SHELL=RSPINST.EXE A:\OS2SE20.RSP
  73.  
  74.       Type:        DEL DEVICE=\MOUSE.SYS
  75.  
  76.       If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel
  77.       computer, type the following to delete the statements in
  78.       CONFIG.SYS file on the copy of diskette 1.

  80.                    DEL BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
  81.                    DEL BASEDEV=IBM1ADSK.ADD
  82.                    DEL BASEDEV=IBM1SCSI.ADD
  83.  
  84. 3. Unpack and copy the SAMPLE.RSP file to the copy
  85.    of diskette 1.  The file is in a compressed file named
  86.    REQUIRED located on different diskettes depending on the OS/2
  87.    diskettes you are using.
  88.  
  89.       Diskette  9 = Blue 5.25
  90.       Diskette 13 = Blue 3.5 (L)
  91.       Diskette 11 = Salmon 3.5 (M)
  92.  
  93.    Find the file on the correct diskette and type:

  95.            UNPACK A:\REQUIRED C:\ /N:SAMPLE.RSP
  96.  
  97.    This places the file in root directory of C: drive.
  98.  
  99. 4. Use a text editor to modify and save the file. The file
  100.    contains comments that explain each of the installation
  101.    options.
  102.  
  103. 5. Copy the modified response file to the copy you made of
  104.    diskette 1. Use the name OS2SE20.RSP:
  105.  
  106.           example:  COPY C:\SAMPLE.RSP A:\OS2SE20.RSP
  107.  
  108. 6. Unpack and copy the RSPINST.EXE file, located in a compressed
  109.    file named REQUIRED on diskette 7, to the copy of diskette 1.

  111.           UNPACK A:\REQUIRED C:\ /N:RSPINST.EXE
  112.  
  113.    This places the file in root directory of C: drive.
  114.  
  115. 7. Insert the installation diskette and restart the system.
  116.  
  117. 8. When prompted for diskette 1, insert the modified copy
  118.    of diskette 1 and press Enter.  Follow the prompts on
  119.    the screen to continue installation.

  122.    NOTE:  When prompted to insert diskette 1 again, insert
  123.     the ORGINAL diskette 1 into drive A:
  124.  
  125. Response files can be used to install the same set of options on
  126. multiple workstations.  Make sure the workstations have the
  127. same set of options and hardware.
