OSINRESP - USING THE RESPONSE FILE FOR FOR INSTALLING OS/2 2.1
11/10/94
================================================================
USING THE RESPONSE FILE FOR INSTALLING OS/2 2.1
================================================================
Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures
----------------------------------------------------------------
Disable Cache, Shadow Ram, and Turbo. (Packard Bell need not
disable these features)
It is highly recommended that your Video should be in VGA Mode
(640 x 480); Disable Autosensing, and if possible, put your Video
Card in an 8 bit slot or mode.
When using a RESPONSE FILE to install OS/2 2.1, it is suggested
to make ALL install selections in response file BEFORE the
installation.
NOTE: Always use the copy of a diskette - never use the
original program diskette.
COPYING THE RESPONSE FILE TO DISKETTE 1
=======================================
Use the following procedures to modify a response file and put the
file on a copy of diskette
- UNPACK compressed files using the UNPACK.EXE on diskette
- Any reference to UNPACK should be performed from the hard
disk.
Modify diskette 1 to copy the response file to a diskette.
1. Make a copy of diskette 1 and place the original diskette with
the program diskettes. You only modify the copy.
DISKCOPY A: A: (to use the same drive as source and
destination)
DISKCOPY A: B: (to use different drives as source
and destination)
2. Type the following to delete files from the copy of
diskette 1.
DEL MOUSE.SYS
DEL BUNDLE
NOTE: This step is not necessary for CD-ROM installations.
A. Type: DEL SYSINST2.EXE
B. If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel
computer, type the following to delete the file on
the copy of diskette 1.
DEL IBM1*.ADD
E. If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a non-Micro Channel
computer, type the following to delete the file on
the copy of diskette 1.
DEL IBM2*.ADD
F. Edit the CONFIG.SYS on the copy of diskette 1.
Change the SET OS2_SHELL statement from:
SET OS2_SHELL=SYSINST2.EXE
to:
SET OS2_SHELL=RSPINST.EXE A:\OS2SE20.RSP
Type: DEL DEVICE=\MOUSE.SYS
If you are installing OS/2 2.1 on a Micro Channel
computer, type the following to delete the statements in
CONFIG.SYS file on the copy of diskette 1.
DEL BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
DEL BASEDEV=IBM1ADSK.ADD
DEL BASEDEV=IBM1SCSI.ADD
3. Unpack and copy the SAMPLE.RSP file to the copy
of diskette 1. The file is in a compressed file named
REQUIRED located on different diskettes depending on the OS/2
diskettes you are using.
Diskette 9 = Blue 5.25
Diskette 13 = Blue 3.5 (L)
Diskette 11 = Salmon 3.5 (M)
Find the file on the correct diskette and type:
UNPACK A:\REQUIRED C:\ /N:SAMPLE.RSP
This places the file in root directory of C: drive.
4. Use a text editor to modify and save the file. The file
contains comments that explain each of the installation
options.
5. Copy the modified response file to the copy you made of
diskette 1. Use the name OS2SE20.RSP:
example: COPY C:\SAMPLE.RSP A:\OS2SE20.RSP
6. Unpack and copy the RSPINST.EXE file, located in a compressed
file named REQUIRED on diskette 7, to the copy of diskette 1.
UNPACK A:\REQUIRED C:\ /N:RSPINST.EXE
This places the file in root directory of C: drive.
7. Insert the installation diskette and restart the system.
8. When prompted for diskette 1, insert the modified copy
of diskette 1 and press Enter. Follow the prompts on
the screen to continue installation.
NOTE: When prompted to insert diskette 1 again, insert
the ORGINAL diskette 1 into drive A:
Response files can be used to install the same set of options on
multiple workstations. Make sure the workstations have the
same set of options and hardware.
