ERROR MESSAGES: SYS2026 OS2LDR CANNOT BE FOUND
SYS2028 OS2KRNL CANNOT BE FOUND
SYS3146 OS2LDR.MSG CANNOT BE FOUND

These are hidden system files and need to be in the root
directory of the drive where OS/2 resides or is started.
The error messages may appear separately or with a SYS2027.
Error message SYS2027 is to restart your system.
If you are installing, it is possible that one or more of the
files may not have copied to hard disk.
It is recommended to copy the necessary files to the hard disk
because they may be corrupted. If OS/2 is installed and you
receive the error messages, it is suggested to run CHKDSK before
copying files to hard disk.

INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN CHKDSK ON OS/2 2.X, WARP:
1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
3. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
Diskette 1.
4. Press Enter.
5. When the Welcome Screen appears,
- For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display a command prompt.
- For OS/2 2.X, press Esc, to display command prompt.
6. Remove Diskette 1 and insert Diskette 2, which contains
the CHKDSK command.
If you installed from CD, insert CD into the CD-ROM drive:
NOTE: X is your CD-ROM drive
- For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display the command prompt.
Type: X: and press Enter.
Type: OS2IMAGE and press Enter.
Type: CD DISK_2 and press Enter.
- For OS/2 2.X, the command prompts stops at CD drive in
DISK_1 subdirectory, change to DISK_2 subdir, type:
X:\OS2SE21\DISK_2
7. To correct errors on hard disk, type appropriate CHKDSK
command followed by the drive on which OS/2 resides.
(X: denotes drive where OS/2 resides...C:, D:, etc.)
For FAT, type: CHKDSK X: /F
For HPFS, type: CHKDSK X: /F:2
8. Press Enter to start the CHKDSK command.
NOTE: If you have any errors, run the CHKDSK command
repeatedly until ALL errors are cleared up.
9. Continue with the following steps to copy files to hard disk.

ERROR MESSAGE SYS2026 OS2LDR CANNOT BE FOUND
Error message occurs while installing. It is not necessary to
run CHKDSK.
NOTE: X: is the drive where OS/2 resides.
1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
3. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
Diskette 1.
4. Press Enter.
5. When the Welcome Screen appears,
- For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display a command prompt.
- For OS/2 2.X, press Esc, to display command prompt.
6. At the A:> Type:
COPY OS2LDR X:\ and press Enter
7. If you do not receive an error message, remove the diskette
and restart the system.
NOTE: If you get error message SYS2028 or SYS3146, DO NOT
restart the system. Type the following to copy the
files:
COPY OS2LDR.MSG X:\ and press Enter
COPY OS2KRNL X:\ and press Enter
Remove the diskette and restart the system.

ERROR MESSAGE SYS2028 OS2KRNL CANNOT BE FOUND
Error message occurs while installing. It is not necessary to
run CHKDSK.
1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
3. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
Diskette 1.
4. Press Enter.
5. When the Welcome Screen appears,
- For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display a command prompt.
- For OS/2 2.X, press Esc, to display command prompt.
6. At the A:> Type,
COPY OS2KRNL and press Enter
7. If you do not receive an error message, remove the diskette and
restart the system.
NOTE: If you get error message SYS2026 or SYS3146, DO NOT
restart the system. Type the following to copy the
files:
COPY OS2LDR X:\ and press Enter
COPY OS2LDR.MSG X:\ and press Enter
Remove diskette and restart the system.

ERROR MESSAGE SYS3146 CANNOT BE FOUND
Error message occurs while installing. It is not necessary to
run CHKDSK.
1. Insert the Installation Diskette in drive A:
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system.
3. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert
Diskette 1.
4. Press Enter.
5. When the Welcome Screen appears,
- For OS/2 WARP, press F3 to display a command prompt.
- For OS/2 2.X, press Esc, to display command prompt.
6. At the A:> Type,
COPY OS2LDR.MSG X:\ and press Enter
7. If you do not receive an error message, remove the diskette
and restart the system.
NOTE: If you get error message SYS2026 or SYS2028, DO NOT
restart the system. Type the following to copy the
files:
COPY OS2LDR X:\ and press Enter
COPY OS2KRNL X:\ and press Enter
Remove the diskette and restart the system.

FOR ERROR MESSAGES IF OS/2 IS ALREADY INSTALLED
OS/2 is already installed and you receive one or more of the
following error messages:
SYS2026
SYS2028
SYS3146
Any of these error messages can be followed by SYS2027, which
means to restart your system.
1. Do the CHKDSK procedure first.
2. Follow steps above for error message you receive.
For example: If you receive SYS2026
A. Run CHKDSK.
B. Follow instructions for SYS2026 error message
