  3. PROBLEMS WITH MACHINES HANGING AND TRAPPING

  6. TRAP0002 ( 0002 ):
  7. -----------------
  8. (The following excerpt is from the PS/2 Trap or NMI Error
  9.  Guidelines Record # H083121)
  10. Memory failures running under OS/2 could display a TRAP0002 or a
  11. TRAP000C error message.  The OS/2 error message will inform the
  12. user that the operating system has detected a hardware memory
  13. error on the system board or on an option card, in many cases.
  14.

  16. The most common type of TRAP0002 error is caused by memory, but
  17. it may on some occasions be caused by a system board or a
  18. micro channel adapter failure.  It may also be caused by other
  19. hardware error or software errors.

  21. A new Service Aid Diskette Utility ( SAD ) is now available
  22. which will provide additional help in determining which of
  23. four possible causes of a TRAP0002 error has occurred.

  25. The four causes of a TRAP0002 error are:
  26. 110 Error - System Board memory Parity Error
  27. 111 Error - Memory Expansion Adapter Parity Error
  28. 112 Error - Watchdog Timer Error (Could be Hardware or Software)
  29. 113 Error - DMA Arbitration Error(Could be Hardware or Software)

  31. Microsoft ( MS ) LAN MANAGER Version 2.2 is required in order
  32. to run under OS/2 2.0, per MS.  If customer is running LAN MAN
  33. 2.0, a device driver error may be generated at boot time from
  34. the config.sys stating problems loading the NETBEUI.OS2 driver.
  35. The interim workaround for running a release below 2.2 would be
  36. to run from a VMB ( Virtual Machine Boot ).  MS Lan Mgr 2.2 is
  37. not yet available as of 5/20/92.  Customer should be directed
  38. to contact Microsoft for availability of LANMAN 2.2.

  40. Other workarounds reported to us are:
  41. Use a DOS lan requestor with a MS lan man server -- or --
  42. Use IBM Lan Server 2.0 requestor code with a MS lan man
  43. server.

  45. Intermitten hangs with SEAGATE ST02 Controller.
  46. Investigation has shown that this card cannot be used
  47. with OS/2 2.0.  Customer have been recommended to
  48. replace this card with a 16 bit controller card.

  50. Hangs and intermitten problem with CORE 1GB harddrive
  51. and IBM SCSI adapter.  Problem is being investigated by
  52. IBM hardware support.  Contact them.

  54. Hangs and traps on Mod 90 and 95
  55. Memory SIMMS must match on these systems, this includes
  56. memory speed, size and manufacture.
  57. Also the Right memory card ( closest to the power supply )
  58. must be completely empty or completely populated.

  62. Reported by customer who confirmed with Northgate:
  63. Northgate 386/33's that contain up to 8 meg on the
  64. motherboard and require a daughter card for 9-16 meg
  65. may have a defect in the daughter card that causes
  66. a trap 0002 in OS/2 2.0. The problem arises when more
  67. than 12 meg is on the system, and only occurs on a
  68. 32 bit operating system. OS/2 2.0 should run OK with
  69. 12 meg. The customer purchased his system in 1989.
  70. The motherboard was made by Motherboard Factory.

  72. Intermittent hangs and traps. Sometimes trap 000D ,
  73. sometimes trap 000E .
  74. Although this could be a number of things, recommend the
  75. following:
  76. - Disable cache
  77. - Disable shadow RAM
  78. - If customer has AMI BIOS disable "hidden refresh" and
  79.   "fast decode enable"
  80. - Change the wait states.

  82. Trap running DOS application where CS varies but IP
  83. is 000006C5. This can be corrected by setting
  84. MOUSE_EXCLUSIVE_ACCESS=ON for each DOS session.

  86. On Compaq Laptops,the PWRCON.EXE from the User Programs Diskette
  87. for OS/2 Version 1.x, is not supported under OS/2 2.0.
  88. PWRCON is a program to allow a user to control power
  89. conservation on a battery operated system. It can be run from
  90. Config.sys, Startup.cmd or manually started.
  91. This program is not supported currently under OS/2 2.0. If the
  92. disk is formatted HPFS, it can cause the following trap
  93. when the laptop automatic screen blank out occurs on a Compaq
  94. LTR Lite 25: Trap 000E CS:EIP 0160 : FFF65898.
