Correcting Crosslinked Files 7/19/94

TITLE: CHKDSK is Reporting Crosslinked Files.
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS: Running CHKDSK from the floppies
or when booting reports crosslinked files.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION: The EA DATA. SF file records the
location of files on the hard drive by their extended
attributes. Crosslinked files occur when two files are
trying to claim the same extended attribute.
DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
1. Insert the installation disk into drive A and press
Ctrl+Alt+Del.
2. When prompted insert disk 1 into drive A and press
Enter.
3. At the "Welcome to OS/2" screen press ESC to cancel.
4. At the A prompt type X: and press Enter. Where X is
the partition you will create a temporary directory on.
5. Type: MD TEMP
6. Type: CD TEMP
7. Copy all the crosslinked files into the new TEMP
directory by typing the following: COPY
X:\DIR\FILENAME.EXT Where X is the drive letter that
contains the crosslinked files.
8. Delete the original files (not the copies you just
made).
9. Insert disk 2 into the A drive and type: CHKDSK X: /f
Where X is the drive letter of the crosslinked partition.
10. Copy the files back to their original location.
11. Delete all the files in the X:\TEMP directory.
12. Type CD..
13. Type RD TEMP.
