  1. Correcting Crosslinked Files             7/19/94

  5.        TITLE:  CHKDSK is Reporting Crosslinked Files.
  6.  
  7.        DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:  Running CHKDSK from the floppies
  8.        or when booting reports crosslinked files.
  9.  
  10.        SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION:  The EA DATA.  SF file records the
  11.        location of files on the hard drive by their extended
  12.        attributes.  Crosslinked files occur when two files are
  13.        trying to claim the same extended attribute.
  14.  
  15.        DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
  16.  
  17.        1. Insert the installation disk into drive A and press
  18.        Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  19.  
  20.        2. When prompted insert disk 1 into drive A and press
  21.        Enter.
  22.  
  23.        3. At the "Welcome to OS/2" screen press ESC to cancel.
  24.  
  25.        4. At the A prompt type X:  and press Enter.  Where X is
  26.        the partition you will create a temporary directory on.
  27.  
  28.        5. Type:  MD TEMP
  29.  
  30.        6. Type:  CD TEMP
  31.  
  32.        7. Copy all the crosslinked files into the new TEMP
  33.        directory by typing the following:  COPY
  34.        X:\DIR\FILENAME.EXT Where X is the drive letter that
  35.        contains the crosslinked files.
  36.  
  37.        8. Delete the original files (not the copies you just
  38.        made).
  39.  
  40.        9. Insert disk 2 into the A drive and type:  CHKDSK X:  /f
  41.        Where X is the drive letter of the crosslinked partition.
  42.  
  43.        10.  Copy the files back to their original location.
  44.  
  45.        11.  Delete all the files in the X:\TEMP directory.
  46.  
  47.        12.  Type CD..
  48.  
  49.        13.  Type RD TEMP.
