OSDICHKD - RUNNING CHKDSK FOR FAT & HPFS 2.X, WARP
10/19/94
================================================================
RUNNING CHKDSK FOR FAT & HPFS
================================================================
Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures
----------------------------------------------------------------
It is recommended to run CHKDSK on a regular basis as a
maintenance process and most effective when run from diskettes.
You do not want to interfere with the SWAPPER. The CHKDSK
command should NOT be issued when OS/2 is started from
the hard disk, because the SWAPPER.DAT file is in a constant
state of change, and CHKDSK may show misleading results. The
CHKDSK procedure may require several passes, because CHKDSK first
cleans up primary structures and then secondary structures.
The CHKDSK command with the parameter /F corrects disk and
directory errors. When using the /F parameter, there is no
activity the disk. If you need to correct errors on the drive
where you start OS/2, use the version of CHKDSK on the
installation diskettes or CD, not the version installed on the
hard disk. Also, use the version of CHKDSK on the installation
diskettes or CD if the disk is in use or locked by another
process.
