Removing OS/2 to get DOS 5.0 5/03/94
File:OSDELETE.fax
TITLE:REMOVAL OF OS/2 2.x FROM A PRE-LOAD SYSTEM
This procedure will guide you through removing OS/2 from your preloaded
computer. In order to use your machine after OS/2 has been removed, you
need to install an operating system (such as DOS). Until the operating system
is installed, you will not be able to use your computer.
You will first need two utility diskettes. If you have already made these
disks, continue on to the next section. Otherwise, follow the next few steps:
1. Turn your computer on.
2. Close the OS/2 Tutorial.
3. Double click on "Configuration Tools" folder icon.
4. Double click on "Create Utility Diskettes" program icon.
5. Select Drive "A".
6. Please use high density diskettes (at least 1.44MB).
7. Now, insert the blank disks as requested by the computer.
8. After the utility disks are made, close all open folders, place
the mouse pointer in a blank portion of the desktop, and click
on the right mouse button. Then select SHUTDOWN, and answer
OK to the confirmation(s) that follow.
9. At the message "It is now safe to turn off your computer",
go ahead and do so.
Now that you have made your utility disks, the next step is to boot your
machine using these disks and remove OS/2.
1. Place Utility Disk #1 into drive A.
2. Turn the power on.
3. Disk #1 will take a moment to load. After its loaded, you will be
asked to insert Utility Diskette #2 -- go ahead and do so.
4. After a little while, you will see an "A:\" prompt in brackets.
When you made utility disks, if only two disks were created, put disk
number 1 into the A: drive. If three disks were created, insert
disk #3.
5. Type OSDELETE, then press <ENTER>.
6. When asked "DO YOU WISH TO CONTINUE?", respond "y"
7. When asked "DO YOU WISH TO STOP NOW?", respond "n"
8. You will now be asked for your system's serial number. Type that
number, then hit enter.
9. This program will delete all OS2-related files and directories on
your hard disk. After a few moments, you will be presented with
a verification number. Keep this number so that in the future,
if necessary, you can verify that you once had OS/2 on your system.
OS/2 has been removed. You may now install an alternate operating system.
