  8.     **Installing BOOT MANAGER without Repartitioning the
  9.                      Entire Hard Disk**

  14. In this example, a hard disk of 80MB currently consists of a
  15. primary partition of 10MB (containing DOS) and a logical drive of
  16. 70MB.  The primary (DOS) partition will be preserved, but the
  17. logical drive will be deleted and replaced by:
  18.  
  19.     * A 1MB Boot Manager partition
  20.     * A 49MB logical drive, in which OS/2 2.1 will be installed
  21.     * A 20MB logical drive, used for programs and data
  22.  
  23. In this example, you will put the Boot Manager partition at the
  24. END of the hard disk.

  28. 1. Back up any data you want to save from the existing logical
  29.    drive.  (Use the BACKUP command from your existing operating
  30.    system.)
  31.  
  32. 2. Insert the Installation Diskette, restart your
  33.    system, and follow the instructions on the screen until the
  34.    Installation Drive Selection screen is displayed.
  35.  
  36. 3. On the Installation Drive Selection screen, select option 2,
  37.    SPECIFIY A DIFFERENT DRIVE OR PARTITION.

  39. 4. Delete the existing logical drive (which You Have Backed Up):
  40.    a. Highlight the line that contains information about the
  41.       logical drive.
  42.    b. Press Enter to display the Option menu.
  43.    c. Select Delete Partition and press Enter.
  44.  
  45. 5. Create the Boot Manager partition and install the Boot
  46.    Manager:
  47.    a. Make sure the FREE SPACE line is highlighted.
  48.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  49.    c. Select INSTALL BOOT MANAGER and press Enter.
  50.    d. Select CREATE AT END OF FREE SPACE and press Enter.

  52. 6. Create the first logical drive (for OS/2 2.1):
  53.    a. Highlight the FREE SPACE line.
  54.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  55.    c. Select CREATE Partition and press Enter.
  56.    d. Type the size of the extended logical drive (in this
  57.       example, 49) and press Enter.
  58.    e. Select EXTENDED Logical Drive and press Enter
  59.    f. Select CREATE at START of FREE SPACE and press Enter.
  60.    g. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  61.    h. Select ADD to BOOT MANAGER MENU and press Enter.
  62.    i. Type OS/2 2.1 and press Enter.

  64. 7. Create the second logical drive (for programs and data):
  65.    a. Highlight the FREE SPACE line.
  66.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  67.    c. Select CREATE Partition and press Enter.
  68.    d. Accept the size of the extended logical drive (20) by
  69.       pressing Enter.
  70.    e. Select EXTENDED LOGICAL DRIVE and press Enter.

  72. *NOTE: If you had entered a number smaller than 20 for the size
  73.        of the logical drive, you would also have to select from
  74.        CREATE AT START OF FREE SPACE or CREATE AT END OF FREE
  75.        SPACE.

  77. 8. Set up Os/2 2.1 as the default:
  78.    a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  79.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  80.    c. Select SET STARTUP VALUES and press Enter.
  81.    d. Select DEFAULT and press Enter.
  82.    e. Press F3.

  84. 9. Indicate which partition should be used for the OS/2 2.1
  85.    installation:
  86.    a. Highlight the OS/2 2.1 line.
  87.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  88.    c. Select SET INSTALLABLE and press Enter.

  90. 10.Add a name for the DOS partition to the Boot Manager startup
  91.    menu:
  92.    a. Highlight the line that contains information about the DOS
  93.       partition.
  94.    b. Press Enter to display the Options menu.
  95.    c. Select ADD TO BOOT MANAGER menu and press Enter.
  96.    d. Type DOS and press Enter.

  98. 11.  Exit FDISK:
  99.    a. Press F3 to exit FDISK.
  100.    b. Select SAVE and EXIT and press Enter.

  102. 12.  Continue with OS/2 installation until you see the OS/2 Setup
  103.      and Installation window.

  105. 13.  Format the logical drive:
  106.    a. When the OS/2 Setup and Installation window is displayed,
  107.       select SELECT FEATURES AND INSTALL.
  108.    b. Specify any changes to the System Configuration window.
  109.    c. When the second OS/2 Setup and Installation window is
  110.       displayed, select OPTIONS from the menu bar.
  111.    d. Select FORMAT.
  112.    e. Indicate which file system you want to use to format the
  113.       logical drive.

  115. 14.  Finish the installation of OS/2 2.1.
