  4. HOW TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL DRIVERS IN NETWORK
  5. TRANSPORT SERVICES/2 LAN ADAPTER AND PROTOCOL SUPPORT
  6.  
  7. DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS
  8.     Cannot find where to install the additional adapter drivers,
  9.     or a particular network adapter is not listed in the Network
  10.     Adapters window in Network Transport Services/2 (NTS/2) LAN
  11.     Adapter and Protocol Support Version 1.0.
  12.  
  13. SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION
  14.     Add the additional adapter driver (.OS2) and the information
  15.     file (.NIF) files to NTS/2 LAN Adapter and Protocol Support
  16.     (LAPS) Version 1.0 at the Install Additional Drivers menu.
  17.  
  18. DETAILS OF RESOLUTION
  19.     This procedure provides instructions on how to install
  20.     additional drivers:
  21.  
  22.         1.  For a New Install
  23.         2.  For a Previous Install
  24.         3.  For a Code Server
  25.  
  26.     PREREQUISITES:
  27.  
  28.     --  The network adapter hardware must be installed
  29.         before installing the network adapter software driver.
  30.  
  31.     --  The network adapter drivers to be installed must be
  32.         available on the same directory:
  33.  
  34.             xxx.NIF
  35.             xxx.OS2
  36.  
  37.     Select the procedure which suits your needs.
  38.  
  39.     1.  For a New Install - LAN Adapter and Protocol support
  40.         has never been installed.
  41.  
  42.         a.  Install LAN Adapter and Protocol Support (LAPS):
  43.  
  44.             1)  Insert the "LAN Adapter and Protocol Support"
  45.                 disk in Drive A:.
  46.  
  47.             2)  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the
  48.                 following:
  49.  
  50.                 A:LAPS
  51.  
  52.                 (The IBM LAN Adapter and Protocol Support panel
  53.                 is displayed.)
  54.  
  55.             3)  Select Install.  (The Target Drive panel is
  56.                 displayed.)
  57.  
  58.             4)  Enter the drive letter where LAPS is to be
  59.                 installed, and select OK.  (The Transferring
  60.                 Files panel is displayed.)
  61.  
  62.             5)  At the Installation Complete panel, select OK.
  63.                 (The LAN Adapter and Protocol Support panel is
  64.                 re-displayed.)
  65.  
  66.         b.  Install the additional driver:
  67.  
  68.             1)  Select Install.  (The Install Additional Network
  69.                 Drivers panel is displayed.)
  70.  
  71.             2)  Specify the source of the drivers (.NIF and .OS2)
  72.                 for the network adapter driver to be installed.
  73.  
  74.                 NOTE:  Type the complete path of these files.
  75.                        (Example:  a:\irmatrac)
  76.  
  77.             3)  Remove the LAPS diskette and insert the
  78.                 diskette with the drivers on it.  Select OK.
  79.  
  80.             4)  Wait for the program to process.  At the
  81.                 Install Complete panel, select OK.  (The IBM
  82.                 logo for LAN Adapter and Protocol Support panel
  83.                 is displayed.)

  85.             5)  Reinsert the LAPS installation diskette.
  86.  
  87.         c.  Configure LAPS:
  88.  
  89.             1)  Select Configure.  (The Configuration panel is
  90.                 displayed.)
  91.  
  92.             2)  Select Configure LAN Transports and Continue.
  93.                 (The Configure Workstation panel is displayed.)
  94.  
  95.             3)  The additional network adapter should be
  96.                 selectable in the Network Adapters window.
  97.                 Select the appropriate network adapter, then
  98.                 select Add.
  99.  
  100.             4)  Select the appropriate protocol(s) from the
  101.                 Protocols box by highlighting the protocol and
  102.                 selecting Add.
  103.  
  104.                 (Edit or Change Number as required.)
  105.  
  106.             5)  When all editing and changes have been
  107.                 completed, select OK.  (The IBM Logo for LAN
  108.                 Adapter and Protocol Support is displayed.)
  109.  
  110.         d.  Complete the installation.
  111.  
  112.             1)  Select Exit.  (The CONFIG.SYS Updates panel is
  113.                 displayed.)
  114.  
  115.             2)  Specify the drive where the CONFIG.SYS to be
  116.                 updated is located, then select Continue.  (The
  117.                 Exiting popup displays for a few seconds, then
  118.                 the CONFIG.SYS Updated panel is displayed.)
  119.  
  120.             3)  Select OK.  (The Exiting LAPS panel is
  121.                 displayed.)
  122.  
  123.             4)  Select Exit.
  124.  
  125.             5)  Shutdown and reboot the workstation.
  126.  
  127.     2.  For a Previous Install - LAN Adapter and Protocol
  128.         has been installed previously:
  129.  
  130.         a.  At the OS/2 command prompt, change to the
  131.             \IBMCOM directory, and type the following:
  132.  
  133.                 LAPS
  134.  
  135.             Press Enter.  (The IBM Logo for LAN Adapter and
  136.             Protocol Support is displayed.)
  137.  
  138.         b.  Install the additional driver:
  139.  
  140.             1)  Select Install.  (The Install Additional Network
  141.                 Drivers panel is displayed.)
  142.  
  143.             2)  Specify the source of the drivers (.NIF and .OS2)
  144.                 for the network adapter driver to be installed.
  145.  
  146.                 NOTE:  Type the complete path of these files.
  147.                        (Example:  a:\irmatrac)
  148.  
  149.             3)  Remove the LAPS diskette and insert the
  150.                 diskette with the drivers on it.  Select OK.
  151.  
  152.             4)  Wait for the program to process.  At the
  153.                 Install Complete panel, select OK.  (The IBM
  154.                 logo for LAN Adapter and Protocol Support panel
  155.                 is displayed.)
  156.  
  157.             5)  Select Configure.  (The Configuration panel is
  158.                 displayed.)
  159.  
  160.             6)  Select Configure LAN Transports and
  161.                 Continue.  (The Configure Workstation is
  162.                 displayed).
  163.  
  164.         c.  Remove the previously installed driver if the new
  165.             driver is replacing the previously installed driver.
  166.             (Otherwise, skip to Step 2e):
  167.  
  168.             1)  From the Current Configuration box, select
  169.                 the protocol(s) to be removed, and then
  170.                 select Remove.  (The selected protocol(s)
  171.                 will disappear from the Current Configuration
  172.                 box.)
  173.  
  174.             2)  Select the network adapter to be removed, and
  175.                 then select Remove.  (The selected adapter
  176.                 will disappear from the Current Configuration
  177.                 box.)
  178.  
  179.         d.  Configure the new adapter and protocol(s):
  180.  
  181.             1)  From the Network Adapter list, select the new
  182.                 adapter, and click on Add.
  183.  
  184.             2)  From the Protocols list, select the appropriate
  185.                 protocol(s), and click on Add.
  186.  
  187.                 (Edit or Change Number as required.)
  188.  
  189.             3)  When all editing and changes have been
  190.                 completed, select OK.  (The IBM Logo for LAN
  191.                 Adapter and Protocol Support is displayed.)

  193.         e.  Complete the installation:
  194.  
  195.             1)  Select Exit.  (The CONFIG.SYS Updates popup is
  196.                 displayed.)

  198.             2)  Specify the drive where the CONFIG.SYS to be
  199.                 updated is located, then select Continue.  (The
  200.                 Exiting popup is displayed for a few seconds,
  201.                 then the CONFIG.SYS Updated popup is displayed.)

  203.             3)  Select OK.  (The Exiting LAPS panel is
  204.                 displayed.)

  206.             4)  Select Exit.

  208.             5)  Shutdown and reboot.

  210.         f.  Verify the new adapter and protocol(s) works
  211.             properly.  (Look in the \IBMCOM\LANTRAN.LOG to
  212.             see if any errors are reported.  Error message
  213.             information is documented in the NTS/2 "Messages
  214.             and Problem Determination Guide" listed below
  215.             in References.)
  216.  
  217.     3.  For a Code Server.  (Reference page 3-19 and 4-1
  218.         of the NTS/2 LAN Adapter and Protocol Support
  219.         Configuration Guide.)
  220.  
  221.         a.  Copy the additional network adapter drivers and
  222.             associated files, except message files, to the
  223.             IBMCOM\MACS subdirectory of the LAPS diskette
  224.             image on the code server.
  225.  
  226.         b.  Copy the message files to the \IBMCOM subdirectory.
  227.  
  228.         NOTE:  The additional network adapter drivers and
  229.                associated files can be in packed or unpacked
  230.                format.  If they are in packed format, they
  231.                must have been packed by the PKZIP2 program,
  232.                and they must have a file name extension of
  233.                .ZIP.
  234.  
  235.         c.  Invoke LAPSDISK from the root directory of
  236.             the NTS/2 LAN Adapter and Protocol Support diskette.
