How to add an additional driver through NT 10/30/93
HOW TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL DRIVERS IN NETWORK
TRANSPORT SERVICES/2 LAN ADAPTER AND PROTOCOL SUPPORT
DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS
Cannot find where to install the additional adapter drivers,
or a particular network adapter is not listed in the Network
Adapters window in Network Transport Services/2 (NTS/2) LAN
Adapter and Protocol Support Version 1.0.
SUMMARY OF RESOLUTION
Add the additional adapter driver (.OS2) and the information
file (.NIF) files to NTS/2 LAN Adapter and Protocol Support
(LAPS) Version 1.0 at the Install Additional Drivers menu.
DETAILS OF RESOLUTION
This procedure provides instructions on how to install
additional drivers:
1. For a New Install
2. For a Previous Install
3. For a Code Server
PREREQUISITES:
-- The network adapter hardware must be installed
before installing the network adapter software driver.
-- The network adapter drivers to be installed must be
available on the same directory:
xxx.NIF
xxx.OS2
Select the procedure which suits your needs.
1. For a New Install - LAN Adapter and Protocol support
has never been installed.
a. Install LAN Adapter and Protocol Support (LAPS):
1) Insert the "LAN Adapter and Protocol Support"
disk in Drive A:.
2) At the OS/2 command prompt, type the
following:
A:LAPS
(The IBM LAN Adapter and Protocol Support panel
is displayed.)
3) Select Install. (The Target Drive panel is
displayed.)
4) Enter the drive letter where LAPS is to be
installed, and select OK. (The Transferring
Files panel is displayed.)
5) At the Installation Complete panel, select OK.
(The LAN Adapter and Protocol Support panel is
re-displayed.)
b. Install the additional driver:
1) Select Install. (The Install Additional Network
Drivers panel is displayed.)
2) Specify the source of the drivers (.NIF and .OS2)
for the network adapter driver to be installed.
NOTE: Type the complete path of these files.
(Example: a:\irmatrac)
3) Remove the LAPS diskette and insert the
diskette with the drivers on it. Select OK.
4) Wait for the program to process. At the
Install Complete panel, select OK. (The IBM
logo for LAN Adapter and Protocol Support panel
is displayed.)
5) Reinsert the LAPS installation diskette.
c. Configure LAPS:
1) Select Configure. (The Configuration panel is
displayed.)
2) Select Configure LAN Transports and Continue.
(The Configure Workstation panel is displayed.)
3) The additional network adapter should be
selectable in the Network Adapters window.
Select the appropriate network adapter, then
select Add.
4) Select the appropriate protocol(s) from the
Protocols box by highlighting the protocol and
selecting Add.
(Edit or Change Number as required.)
5) When all editing and changes have been
completed, select OK. (The IBM Logo for LAN
Adapter and Protocol Support is displayed.)
d. Complete the installation.
1) Select Exit. (The CONFIG.SYS Updates panel is
displayed.)
2) Specify the drive where the CONFIG.SYS to be
updated is located, then select Continue. (The
Exiting popup displays for a few seconds, then
the CONFIG.SYS Updated panel is displayed.)
3) Select OK. (The Exiting LAPS panel is
displayed.)
4) Select Exit.
5) Shutdown and reboot the workstation.
2. For a Previous Install - LAN Adapter and Protocol
has been installed previously:
a. At the OS/2 command prompt, change to the
\IBMCOM directory, and type the following:
LAPS
Press Enter. (The IBM Logo for LAN Adapter and
Protocol Support is displayed.)
b. Install the additional driver:
1) Select Install. (The Install Additional Network
Drivers panel is displayed.)
2) Specify the source of the drivers (.NIF and .OS2)
for the network adapter driver to be installed.
NOTE: Type the complete path of these files.
(Example: a:\irmatrac)
3) Remove the LAPS diskette and insert the
diskette with the drivers on it. Select OK.
4) Wait for the program to process. At the
Install Complete panel, select OK. (The IBM
logo for LAN Adapter and Protocol Support panel
is displayed.)
5) Select Configure. (The Configuration panel is
displayed.)
6) Select Configure LAN Transports and
Continue. (The Configure Workstation is
displayed).
c. Remove the previously installed driver if the new
driver is replacing the previously installed driver.
(Otherwise, skip to Step 2e):
1) From the Current Configuration box, select
the protocol(s) to be removed, and then
select Remove. (The selected protocol(s)
will disappear from the Current Configuration
box.)
2) Select the network adapter to be removed, and
then select Remove. (The selected adapter
will disappear from the Current Configuration
box.)
d. Configure the new adapter and protocol(s):
1) From the Network Adapter list, select the new
adapter, and click on Add.
2) From the Protocols list, select the appropriate
protocol(s), and click on Add.
(Edit or Change Number as required.)
3) When all editing and changes have been
completed, select OK. (The IBM Logo for LAN
Adapter and Protocol Support is displayed.)
e. Complete the installation:
1) Select Exit. (The CONFIG.SYS Updates popup is
displayed.)
2) Specify the drive where the CONFIG.SYS to be
updated is located, then select Continue. (The
Exiting popup is displayed for a few seconds,
then the CONFIG.SYS Updated popup is displayed.)
3) Select OK. (The Exiting LAPS panel is
displayed.)
4) Select Exit.
5) Shutdown and reboot.
f. Verify the new adapter and protocol(s) works
properly. (Look in the \IBMCOM\LANTRAN.LOG to
see if any errors are reported. Error message
information is documented in the NTS/2 "Messages
and Problem Determination Guide" listed below
in References.)
3. For a Code Server. (Reference page 3-19 and 4-1
of the NTS/2 LAN Adapter and Protocol Support
Configuration Guide.)
a. Copy the additional network adapter drivers and
associated files, except message files, to the
IBMCOM\MACS subdirectory of the LAPS diskette
image on the code server.
b. Copy the message files to the \IBMCOM subdirectory.
NOTE: The additional network adapter drivers and
associated files can be in packed or unpacked
format. If they are in packed format, they
must have been packed by the PKZIP2 program,
and they must have a file name extension of
.ZIP.
c. Invoke LAPSDISK from the root directory of
the NTS/2 LAN Adapter and Protocol Support diskette.
