This document contains a quick description of WebNav 2.1. For more
information please view the online documentation (webnav.inf).
Note: the online documentation in this release is incomplete.
The completed docs will be availible on our website later.
1. What is WebNav 2.1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WebNav is a web browser for OS/2.
WebNav is a faster, easier way of browsing the web than WebExplorer.
It tries to mimic WebExplorer but has changed many functions for a more
'modern' look. Also WebNav adds many features that is not in WebExplorer.
If you are used to work with WebExplorer you will soon get used with WebNav.
Most menu-items and keyboard shortcuts are similar to those in WebExplorer.
Features you should note:
- Easy to use treebased quicklist
- Better offline support than most browsers
- Selecting a link while a page is loading
- Internal or external (start other program)
ftp/download/mail/news/mirror/html2text
- View with for nonsupported tags
- Small (around 150kb) and fast.
We also offer custom made versions of WebNav for customers that have
specific needs. For example, feature limited company specific versions.
WebNav supports HTML 2.0 plus a few HTML 3.x features .
Since WebNav uses the same websupport as WebExplorer the level of
HTML compliancy is the same as the installed version of WebExplorer.
WebNav requires Warp 3 or Warp 4. WebNav also requires you to have
IBM TCP/IP support and WebExplorer installed (WebNav uses the same
DLL files as WebExplorer). These features are included in all versions
of Warp 3 and Warp 4 and upgrades are available to be downloaded from
IBM for free (http://www.raleigh.ibm.com/WebExplorer).
2. Installation
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The installation program is written for your convenience but is not required
to install the product. You may copy the files to your harddisk manually if
you wish. Only two files are required to run WebNav.
- Copy the files (WEBNAV.EXE and WEBNAV.HLP) to a directory of
your choice.
- Create desktop icons with program references for WEBNAV.EXE.
- On Warp 3 DO NOT drag the icons representing the executables from the
file system (Drives window).
- You may create several program references with different parameters.
- Many copies of WebNav may run at the same time.
If the installation program fails, please ensure that:
- The installation directory is not in a non existing multilevel path.
- The installation drive is not write protected.
- You have Warp 3 or 4, IBM TCP/IP with WebExplorer 1.03 (or later).
- The package WEBN21B1.ZIP is not tampered with.
You may upgrade your WebNavigator 1.1x installation. To do so install to
the directory where you have WebNavigator 1.1x. Start WebNav and select
Options->Settings to ensure that all settings were imported.
You may now import your old QuickList using the menu item
QuickList->Import WebNav 1.1x QuickList.
