INSTALLING IBM WEBEXPLORER JAVA DEMO
Hardware and software requirements
The Java-enabled WebExplorer demo requires the following software:
<*> OS/2 Warp, OS/2 Warp Connect, or OS/2 Warp-J
<*> TCP/IP Version 3.0 for OS/2 (included with OS/2 Warp Connect) or
TCP/IP Version 2.0 for OS/2 (with the latest Corrective Service
applied and APAR fix PN 71501)
<*> The Internet Connection for OS/2 (included with OS/2 Warp and OS/2
Warp Connect)
<*> In addition, you will need the JDK Java code for OS/2 Warp.
Note: The Java code requires an HPFS drive with at least 15MB free
space. In addition, a minimum of a 486 class machine with 12MB
of RAM and is recommended.
Follow the installation instructions to get this code from the IBM
Centre for Java Technology.
Installation instructions
To install the Java-enabled WebExplorer demo:
1. Get the JDK Java code for OS/2
Register and download from the IBM Centre for Java Technology. They
provide instructions to unzip, install it, and modify your CONFIG.SYS
file.
3.Get the WebExplorer Java code
Register and download the WebExplorer Java demo code.
4. Unzip the demo code
Open an OS/2 window, go to the drive and directory where you
downloaded the WebExplorer demo zip file, and unpack the code using an
unzip program.
For example, If you downloaded the WebExplorer zip file to d:\webex:
* At the command prompt, you would enter: d:
* At the [D:\] prompt: cd webex
* At the [D:\webex] prompt: unzip web60319.zip
5. Install the WebExplorer demo
At the prompt, type install.
From the Instructions for Installation window, click on Continue.
From the Install window, use the Options check boxes to indicate if
you want to:
Update CONFIG.SYS
Leave this box checked so that the installation procedure will
automatically update your CONFIG.SYS file to include the
directories where you install the Java-enabled WebExplorer.
Overwrite files
If this is the first time you are installing this demo code, leave
this box unchecked. (You can use this box when reinstalling to
indicate if you want to be prompted before any WebExplorer demo
product files are overwritten.)
Click on OK.
From the Install - directories window, do the following:
*Click Select all to select the WebExplorer Java components.
*Optionally, change the default installation directories.
The WebExplorer Demo files should be installed to a separate, new
directory. The installation will update the beginning of the
SET PATH and LIBPATH statements in your config.sys. This allows you
to leave another copy of WebExplorer installed and resume using
it if you decide to remove the WebExplorer Java Demo.
Make sure to change the path of where you installed the JDK Java
code. This information is only used to update the SET CLASSPATH
statement in your config.sys, but if it is incorrect you will
not be able to view Java applets.
Click on OK.
From the Installation window, click on Exit to complete installation.
6. Reboot your system
Because the installation procedure changed your CONFIG.SYS file, you
need to reboot your system before starting the Java-enabled
WebExplorer demo. Look for its icon in the Internet Connection folder!
