IBM(*) AnyNet(*)
SNA over TCP/IP Gateway for OS/2(*) Version 1.0
README file
The IBM AnyNet SNA over TCP/IP Gateway product is an OS/2-based
member of the AnyNet product family that implements the multiprotocol
transport networking (MPTN) architecture. AnyNet SNA over TCP/IP
gateway connects an IP and an SNA network to enable communication over
these networks. Using the SNA over TCP/IP gateway function, SNA
applications running nonnatively on the IP network can communicate,
without change, with SNA applications on the SNA network.
For independent LU communication, multiple gateways can be used to
connect multiple IP networks and SNA networks, thereby allowing SNA
applications to communicate with each other across multiple networks.
The gateway can be configured to provide one of four levels of
connection support (20, 100, 250, or 500 LU-LU sessions). Once
configured, the gateway can be resized to support a greater number
of local connections as needed.
PRODUCT INSTALLATION INFORMATION
________________________________
To install the program and program documentation:
1. Insert Diskette 1 into your A: drive. On an OS/2 command
line, enter the following command:
a:\install
2. When the install program starts, follow the instructions on the
screen. If you need help completing any of the items on the panel,
press the Help push button.
WARNING: On a given workstation, all AnyNet products that use
the ANYNETPATH environment variable should be installed
in the same directory.
As of December 31, 1994 the following AnyNet products
use the ANYNETPATH environment variable:
AnyNet/2 APPC over TCP/IP
AnyNet/2 SNA over TCP/IP
AnyNet SNA over TCP/IP Gateway for OS/2
AnyNet IPX(**) over SNA Gateway for OS/2
If you attempt to install multiple AnyNet products
that use the ANYNETPATH environment variable
in two different directories, only the product
you installed last can be used. The product
installed first cannot be located because the
ANYNETPATH environment variable points to the AnyNet
product that was installed last.
DOCUMENTATION
_____________
The following documentation provides information needed to plan, install,
configure, and diagnose the SNA over TCP/IP Gateway product:
IBM AnyNet: Guide to SNA over TCP/IP Gateway for OS/2 Version 1.0
To access the documentation you can:
o View the softcopy documentation using the Library Reader(**)/2
provided in this package
o View the softcopy documentation using BookManager(*) Read/2
o Print the softcopy documentation
o Print the formatted PostScript(**) documentation
o Order a printed book through the IBM Marketing Center.
USING THE INSTALL UTILITY TO ACCESS THE SOFTCOPY DOCUMENTATION
______________________________________________________________
To install the program documentation on a workstation:
1. Insert Diskette 1 in your A: drive. On an OS/2 command
line, enter the following command:
a:\install
2. The "AnyNet Installation" and "Installation and Maintenance"
windows are displayed.
3. Select "AnyNet Workstation Setup" in the "Installation and
Maintenance" window.
4. Select "Action" on the menu bar and click on the "Install..."
option. The "Install" window is displayed.
5. If you do not want the installation utility to automatically
update your CONFIG.SYS file, remove the check mark from
"Update CONFIG.SYS" option.
If you deselect this option, any changes that should be made
to the CONFIG.SYS file are placed in the CONFIG.ADD file. You
must manually make the changes to CONFIG.SYS.
6. Optionally, check the "Overwrite files" option. If you do
not select this option, the installation utility prompts you
if it needs to overwrite an existing file with the same name
on your system.
7. Click on the "OK" button to continue the installation. The
"Install - directories" window is displayed.
8. Select "SNA over TCP/IP Gateway for OS/2 Online Documentation".
9. Either accept the default directory or type another directory
in the space provided. Use the "Disk Space" button to determine
whether there is adequate space on your hard drive to continue
the installation.
10. Click on the "Install..." button at the bottom of the window to
start the installation. The "Install Progress" window is displayed
and shows the status of the installation. To cancel the
installation, click on the "Stop" button.
11. When the installation is complete, exit the installation utility
by pressing F3 twice or by closing the installation program
windows.
USING BOOKMANAGER READ/2 TO VIEW THE SOFTCOPY DOCUMENTATION
___________________________________________________________
The install utility provides a copy of the Library Reader/2 which can
be used to view the documentation. If you already have a BookManager
Read licensed program, you should not install the Library Reader/2.
Use the AnyNet installation program to install the BookManager book;
the installation program automatically identifies to BookManager the
directories that hold the program documentation.
