  9.         an energetic squirrel once crashed the mainframe at
  10.         Mississippi State University during registration (a
  11.         true story) and I want to share this information with
  12.         everyone on the 'squirrel' mailing list. What address
  13.         should I send my e-mail letter to if I want the letter
  14.         to be distributed to everyone on the "squirrel" list?

  32.         called "navigate" but the list of lists only shows the
  33.         address as NAVIGATE@UBVM. What address should I send my
  34.         subscribe command to?

  38.              This was a tough question. You had to remember
  39.              to convert the LIST@NODE address to LIST@NODE.BITNET.
  40.              You also had to remember that LISTSERV commands
  41.              have to be sent to the LISTSERV address :)

  44.      4. I want to subscribe to the alt.abuse.recovery newsgroup.
  45.         I sent a e-mail letter to LISTSERV@UA1VM.UA.EDU with the
  46.         command SUBSCRIBE ALT.ABUSE.RECOVERY JOE STUDENT, and I got
  47.         back an error message saying that "alt.abuse.recovery" is
  48.         unknown to the LISTSERV. What's going on?

  50.              b. alt.abuse.recovery is a Usenet newsgroup;
  51.                 to subscribe to the group from a Usenet
  52.                 reader.

  54.              Remember, if the group's name has periods in it,
  55.              it probably is a Usenet newsgroup.

  58.      5. How can I unsubscribe from the Roadmap workshop?

  105.      good luck so long as I send the chain letter to ten additional
  106.      people. Heck, there are several *hundred* people subscribed to
  107.      each of the Usenet newsgroups and LISTSERV lists. Why can't I
  108.      just forward the chain letter to these groups?
  109.  
  110.           Chain letters violate the relevant posting rule (and are
  111.           likely to turn you into flame-bait).
  112.  
  113.           Also -- and this was not covered in the lessons --
  114.           most networks have Acceptable Usage policies that
  115.           strictly prohibit chain letters.

  117.           If someone sends you a chain letter, forward the
  118.           chain letter (along with an angry reply) to that
  119.           person's postmaster.

  122. 12.  Patrick's dad said "DON'T include the entire contents of a
  123.      previous posting in your reply(s)." Why *can't* I do this?

  125.           It is rude. When you re-post the entire contents of
  126.           a previous posting, you are forcing the readers to
  127.           re-read something that they have already read.

  129.           The purpose of reposting is to remind everyone what
  130.           was said, not to repeat what was said :)

  133. 13.  If someone spams a list that I am on, what should I do? Why
  134.      shouldn't I just send my angry replies to the list?
  135.  
  136.           Your best bet is to ignore it. If you are really
  137.           angry, reply to the poster at his e-mail address,
  138.           or complain to the poster's site administrator.
  139.  
  140.           You should not send your replies to the list because
  141.           the spammer is probably not even a member or the list,
  142.           and, if he is, he probably does not care about what
  143.           you think.
