  9. As promised, here is a list of Anonymous FTP sites that you can visit.
  10.  
  11. Most of the listings are of files that you can retrieve. All files
  12. are listed in the following format:
  13.  
  14.      Address: ftp.sura.net
  15.      Path: /pub/nic/agricultural.list
  16.  
  17. You should have no problem figuring out what to do with the "Address"
  18. part.
  19.  
  20. Figuring out the "Path" part isn't difficult, but there is a
  21. trick that you need to remember: everything after the last / is the
  22. file name. DO NOT USE THE FILE NAME IN YOUR CD OR CHDIR COMMANDS!
  23.  
  24. For example, if the path entry is
  25.  
  26.      Path: /pub/nic/agricultural.list
  27.  
  28. your "cd" or "chdir" command should be
  29.  
  30.      cd /pub/nic
  31.  
  32. and your "get" command should be
  33.  
  34.      get agricultural.list
  35.  
  36. Some listings do not list file names. These listings have a * after
  37. the last /. This means that you are going to have to use the "dir"
  38. command to look around that particular directory for the file(s)
  39. that you want to get.
  40.  
  41. Some other hints:
  42.  
  43.      - The README file is your friend. Get it every time you see it!
  44.  
  45.      - LOOK AROUND! Just because I have told you where a file is,
  46.        that does not mean that that file is the only file that
  47.        you can get. Use the "DIR" command often :)
  48.  
  49.      - Just because the path address may be /pub/nic/articles,
  50.        that does NOT mean that you have to go straight to that
  51.        directory. You are more than welcome to take the "scenic
  52.        route" to the file (example: type "cd pub", then type
  53.        "dir" to look around the pub directory. When you are done
  54.        in the "pub" directory, type "cd nic", and then type "dir"
  55.        to look around the "nic" directory ...)
  56.  
  57.      - Sites appear and disappear every second, and files are shifted
  58.        around just as frequently. If you get into a site and can not
  59.        find the file that you are looking for, look in the README
  60.        file for a directory of files. If that fails, get out of
  61.        the site and try an Archie search for the file (using the
  62.        file's name as the searchterm).
  63.  
  64.      - Remember, with most FTP clients *CASE COUNTS*. Typing
  65.        get AGRICULTURAL.LIST won't work if the file is named
  66.        agricultural.list
  67.  
  68.      - If you are using FTPmail, you can use the "dir" command
  69.        just as easily as everyone else. Just type "dir" on the
  70.        line following your "chdir" command.
  71.
