  8. There are *many* incredible Internet books on the market today.
  9. The following listings were copied, with the permission of the
  10. publisher, from "The Internet Yellow Pages" written by Harley
  11. Hahn and Rick Stout (and published by Osborne McGraw-Hill).

  13. Hahn and Stout's "The Internet Yellow Pages" has over four hundred
  14. pages of listings for various e-mail, LISTSERV, Internet mailing
  15. list, Usenet, telnet, FTP, Gopher, and finger sites around the
  16. world. I went through "The Internet Yellow Pages" and randomly
  17. picked forty-one interesting telnet sites.

  19. Before I turn you loose on the Internet, there are a few things I
  20. want to say:

  22.      -  The listings give the site's address, and the password
  23.         required. For example, if the listing said
  24.  
  25.                   Address:  squirrel.com
  26.                   Password: patrick
  27.  
  28.         you would simply telnet to squirrel.com, and use the
  29.         password "patrick" :)
  30.  
  31.      - If a site does not let you in, its probably because that
  32.        site is having some problems. If this happens, just pick
  33.        another site.
  34.  
  35.      - Please remember that your local Internet service provider
  36.        only handles the *local* part of your service. It would be
  37.        pretty foolish to call your local Internet service provider
  38.        and complain about a problem that you are having with a
  39.        *distant* computer :)
  40.  
  41.      - Remember the Roadmap code: YOU CAN NOT BREAK THE INTERNET!!
  42.        The Internet was built to survive a direct nuclear attack
  43.        ... it can take ANYTHING you do to it. If the Internet can
  44.        survive me, it can survive you. ;)

  46.      - If everything falls apart on you, EXIT TELNET AND TRY AGAIN!

  48. Your homework is to pick one -- and ONLY one -- of the following
  49. sites, and telnet to it (because of the size of this workshop, I
  50. am going to have to limit you to one site for now; after the workshop
  51. is over, you can visit as many sites as you want) :)
