  38.     Thank you for getting this product, of course since it's free 
  39. you didn't have to work very hard did you?  =:-)  This REXX script was 
  40. writen in order to regain the TagLine features of the off-mail readers 
  41. I used back in my BBS'ing days.  It's not quite as fully featured as 
  42. they were for the tagline thing, but it's a start anyway.

  44.     I wrote the script with VREXX2 which is an IBM Employee Written
  45. Software product and available to anyone who has a valid licensed copy
  46. of OS/2 as far as I know anyway.  I'm distributing this script without the
  47. VREXX product.  You'll have to obtain it yourself.  It can be found at the
  48. following FTP site:

  61.     The entire code is here for you to see, change, use or not use.  
  62. I will *NOT* be held responsible if your machine blows up, if your 
  63. Internet Provider disconnects you, if your significant other/wife/husband 
  64. leaves you, if the IRS audits you or anything else bad happens to you by 
  65. fault or not in this script.  That's why it's free.  And by using these 
  66. scripts you fully and without reservation accept these terms.  If you 
  67. don't accept, then don't run these scripts, it won't effect my paycheck 
  68. either way.  =:-)

  70.     I've tested it out pretty well on my system which is Warp 4.0 
  71. Fullpack running PMMail 1.52 and it seems to be very stable for me.  If 
  72. you're running another OS/2 version or another PMMail version I can't be 
  73. so sure.  Let me know if you have a different setup and whether or not
  74. it's working for you.

  77. *                3.  Installation:                    *

  80.     Installing this script is rather easy, just make sure that the
  81. TAGLINE.CMD and TAGLINE.TXT files are in the PMMail working directory.
  82. This will be whereever your PMMAIL.EXE file is most likely, but you know
  83. your system better than I.  On my system that is C:\SOUTHSDE\PMMAIL, but 
  84. it may change if you installed PMMail elsewhere on your particular 
  85. system.

  87.     Once that's done, click on the "Account" pull down menu in
  88. PMMail, select "Utilities Settings..." from that menu.  When the 
  89. Utilities notebook comes up, select the "REXX Exits" tab.

  91.     There you'll see two different entries, click the box next to
  92. "Message Send Exit".  Then where it says "Script To Run" put in 
  93. "TAGLINE.CMD".  That should do it.  Whenever you send email out now you 
  94. should see a small dialog come up to choose how you want to handle the
  95. tagline for that message.

  98. *                4.  Using PMTagLine:                 *

  101.     When PMTagLine starts up it presents a radio button dialog so you
  102. can choose how it works for that individual message.  There are four 
  103. choices available:
  104.  
  105.     4a.  Let PMTagLine randomly pick a TagLine.
  106.  
  107.     This function will randomly pick a tagline from the TAGLINE.TXT
  108. file and insert it at the bottom of your outgoing mail.
  109.  
  110.     4b.  Pick one from the file specifically.
  111.  
  112.     This function will display a dialog that you can browse through
  113. the taglines in TAGLINE.TXT and pick one individually to be added to your
  114. outgoing mail.
  115.  
  116.     4c.  Input your own TagLine manually.
  117.  
  118.     This function will allow you to add your own tagline manually to 
  119. be added to your outgoing mail.
  120.  
  121.     4d.  Search for text and then choose.
  122.  
  123.     This will allow you to search for a particular string of text and
  124. then pick a tagline from any taglines that match.  If the string that you 
  125. are searching for is not found, PMTagLine will return to the initial choice
  126. selection dialog.  (NOTE:  At first I had this return to the string input
  127. dialog to do another search, but decided that if one didn't match people 
  128. might want to just go for a random pick.  I may have it give you the choice
  129. in a future version.  This was easier for me at this point of my under-
  130. standing of VREXX.)

  132.     4e.  Bypass the TagLine insertion.

  134.     This function just exits the script and allows the message to go
  135. out without any tagline being added.

  142. find any bugs.  It's working rather smoothly for me, but that's only one
  143. system.  You can email me at "sberg@southwind.com" or find me on IRC,
  144. using "SSgt" for a nick, EFNet and usually in #OS/2.

  146.     I have heard that PMTagLine gets confused it you're using an
  147. extremely large file for your taglines.  I can't say right now whether it's
  148. REXX, VREXX, my code or OS/2 that is causing the problem.  Maybe I'll get
  149. a chance to play with that and try to narrow it down some.  As is it should 
  150. work as long as the tagline.txt file isn't incredibly large.

  152.     As for "TagNapping" incoming taglines, see below.  In the meantime
  153. a couple of users have informed me that they keep a shadow object of their
  154. tagline.txt file handy and if they see one that they want to swipe they do
  155. a quick cut/paste to the tagline.txt file.

  161.     I'm running a few thoughts around in my head about how to scan
  162. incoming messages for taglines and make it possible to "TagNap" them into
  163. your own TAGLINE.TXT file.  Right now I don't know of an easy way to do 
  164. this since the incoming message REXX hook would be called for each and 
  165. every message that is received.  Since I get around 100 messages a day I'm
  166. not gonna want that to happen to myself so I won't do it to you either.

  168.     I did get one suggestion to allow choosing different text files
  169. to get the taglines.  I hope to add in that functionality sometime soon.

  171.     I just had a thought about confirming any randomly chosen tagline
  172. before it actually gets added.  If refused I could either go back to 
  173. choose another random tagline or restart the process entirely, not sure
  174. which would be easier or more comfy for you or if this would be a wanted
  175. feature in the first place.  Drop me line via email with a suggestion on 
  176. this one and I'll go from there.

  194.     Fixed the txt file name, it was taglines.txt in the archive but
  195.         the script was looking for tagline.txt.  Thanks to Murray
  196.         Weismer for finding this and bringing it to my attention.
