  22. PMLPP's main window consists of three main elements: 
  23.  
  24.    1. A pushbutton/icon. 
  25.  
  26.    2. A message-count display window. 
  27.  
  28.    3. A popup/context menu. 
  29.  
  30.  Note:  You can drag the main window by clicking and holding either mouse 
  31.  button.

  34. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Refresh Button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  36. Clicking on the refresh button results in one of two actions: If you have 
  37. defined a mailreader, and there is mail pending, PMLPP will attempt to launch 
  38. your reader. Failing that, PMLPP will poll the server immediately if possible. 
  39. The icon background of the button will also reflect PMLPP's current status. If 
  40. the background is GRAY , there is no mail on the server. If GREEN , one or more 
  41. messages are available. If RED , something has malfunctioned (see Error Codes 
  42. ).

  47. This is the small window below the refresh/icon button. One of two things will 
  48. appear here; a message count as of the last poll, or an error code.

  53. PMLPP uses a combination system and context/popup menu. Clicking the 
  54. context-menu mouse button (usually button 2 or the right one) anywhere over the 
  55. main window will bring up the menu. Use the " Properties " option to open a 
  56. configuration dialog.

  90. If this box is checked, PMLPP will beep ONCE when it detects the first message; 
  91. i.e., when the message count changes from 0 (zero) to 1 (one).

  96. "Click" on the arrow-buttons or type in the number of SECONDS PMLPP should 
  97. pause between polls to the pop server.

  99. Note:  The valid range is 1 to 86400 (24 hours).

  117. host's "services" file. This is your best bet for staying out of trouble.

  125. Your user name is almost always CASE SENSITIVE!

  133. As with your user name, passwords are almost always CASE SENSITIVE!

  138. If this box is checked, PMLPP will save your password in its INI file, where 
  139. somebody could conceivably see it (INI files are binary, but text in strings is 
  140. visible). If left unchecked, you will be prompted for your password when PMLPP 
  141. is launched.

  144. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.8. Force IP ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  146. If this box is checked, and you have entered a (numerically) valid I.P. address 
  147. in the server field, PMLPP will ignore any errors returned from DNS lookup, and 
  148. attempt to use this I.P. address. In other words, YOU  are assuming 
  149. responsibility for the correctness of the address.

  154. Checking this item causes PMLPP to attempt an APOP login. Should APOP fail, 
  155. PMLPP will revert to a normal login.

  160. The pathname of your mail-reader program. You only need to set this if you 
  161. would like to be able to launch your mail-reader from PMLPP's menu.

  176. The following codes may appear in the "message count" window: 
  177.  
  178.  ADDR 
  179.  
  180.            PMLPP was unable to resolve the server name/address (gethostbyname() 
  181.            and/or gethostbyaddr() failed). 
  182.  
  183.  SOCK 
  184.  
  185.            PMLPP was unable to obtain a new socket from the system (socket() 
  186.            failed). 
  187.  
  188.  CONN 
  189.  
  190.            PMLPP was unable to connect to the server (connect() failed). 
  191.  
  192.  SRVR 
  193.  
  194.            The server won't talk to PMLPP. It isn't running, or for some reason 
  195.            (it's too busy, etc.) refuses to accept commands (we timed out 
  196.            waiting for it to "talk" to us, or the server didn't respond with 
  197.            "+OK").

  199.  USER 
  200.  
  201.            The server has rejected your user name; i.e., it doesn't like you or 
  202.            doesn't know who you are. Make sure you've configured your name 
  203.            correctly. 
  204.  
  205.  PASS 
  206.  
  207.            The server has rejected your password. Make sure you've entered it 
  208.            correctly. 
  209.  
  210.            Note:  Depending on the server, you may see this even when it's the 
  211.                   USER name field that's incorrect. 
  212.  
  213.  STAT 
  214.  
  215.            The server doesn't want to give us statistics. You should NEVER see 
  216.            this, and if you do, it probably means something on the server end 
  217.            is broken. 
  218.  
  219.  VALU 
  220.  
  221.            PMLPP couldn't parse the statistics string returned by the server. 
  222.            You should never see this either. 
  223.  
  224.  
  225.  Note:  Some of the above error codes may appear erroneously if something 
  226.  happens to the connection in mid "conversation." In other words, you might see 
  227.  a "PASS" error if PMLPP was waiting for the server to acknowledge your 
  228.  password, and the connection was suddenly broken.
