Welcome to the latest version of Os2Chat (ver 1.1). Os2Chat
is a smaller, faster, and easier method of communicating via UANet than
IRC and more flexable than talk. This tutorial will familiarize you to
the many features available.
NOTE: OC, and Os2Chat all refer to the Os2Chat Server.
1. What is Os2Chat?
2. What is needed to use Os2Chat
3. What do I do as a "Sysop"?
1. What is Os2Chat?
Os2Chat was designed as a multi-user interactive chat system,
much like IRC. However, OC is much smaller (21 maximum connections) but
incrediably fast. OC is also easier to use with single character commands
and easy to use help features. Also, OC is very reliable. To date, The
Os2Chat has never crashed nor experienced a single net split.
2. What do you need to use Os2Chat?
The major difference between IRC and OC is that Os2Chat is
clientless. This means that no special programs are needed to effectively
use Os2Chat.
Although there is no clients needed to use Os2Chat, it is recommended.
If you have an INTERNET client, it is highly recommended that you use it.
Please do not use an IRC client, where as you will entrap yourself in the
Os2Chat.
3. What do I do as a "Sysop"?
Os2Chat is basically a stand-alone program, with VERY little upkeep.
To familarize yourself with the commands, and function of Os2Chat,
I suggest RUNNING it in a local loopback, and telnet-ing to it.
You can change your level, once connected to Os2Chat by typing on a clear
line,
.qgod
god is the level 4 password, it can be found in os2chat.pwd
You can change these password to what ever you like, and I suggest you do.
you may change password while online, but only if you are a level 4 user
to change any level password, type
.qgod=IamtheSysopofthisplace
from now , and until the program is shutdown, the new password
IamtheSysopofthisplace
Will become the new level 4 password, you can change ANY level password
but you MUST be level 4 to make the changes.
So run Os2Chat and find out what you have :)
Remember to tell your friends, etc, that you are running a chat line.
To have them connect to you, the only need to telnet to you.
as an example, a user on a unix system can type
telnet your.hostname 5555
or if the user is on an Os/2 machine also, then can type
telnet -t ansi your.hostname 5555
If you would like to use a differnt port number, just change
runchat.cmd 's port number from 5555 to whatever you like.
Thanks again for grabing it.
