The IBM NewsTicker is designed to extend the existing capabilities of the World Wide Web (WWW) for the delivery and presentation of constantly changing information. The WWW has already defined the protocols for delivering and presenting information. What is lacking is the means to determine what information is new and to effectively process the content retrieved from multiple Web sites. The IBM NewsTicker headline server is the software that enables a Web site to answer the question "What's new?" and to present a standard set of metadata that the client can use to combine and organize the information.
The IBM NewsTicker is designed to be used with a DDE-conversant browser (i.e. Netscape Navigator for OS/2) to display the news article associated with the headline displayed in the NewsTicker.
