File: NETTIME.ZIP
Program: NetTime v1.1b
Goal: o Track Advantis Internet Charges (Monthly)
o Display detailed session/monthly useage activity
Distribution: FREEWARE - GIVE IT AWAY!
Support: jcz@tpa.cent.com
Introduction
------------
THIS IS A BETA VERSION OF 1.1. PLS REPORT BUGS FOUND TO JCZ@TPA.CENT.COM.
This zip file contains all of the files necessary to run NetTime, a PM-based
application that allows you to easily track your monthly charges on the
Internet when using the OS/2 Warp IAK AND the IBM Internet Dialer (NOT the
"Dial Other Internet Providers" Dialer! This limitation is due to the fact
that the "Other" Dialer does not support connection logging. However, we
are currently working on a login script that can be used with the "Other"
provider that creates a log file that may be used by a new version of
NetTime! Wouldn't that be cool?
NetTime is a VX-REXX application - as such, you are required to have a copy
of VROBJ.DLL, the run-time library for VX-REXX. This file is available
at several locations, from the hobbes Internet site to various forums on
CompuServe.
If you need *any* help setting up NetTime, please feel free to email your
questions to one of the email addresses listed above!
Release Notes
-------------
0.9 o Initial release.
1.0 o Correct European currency problems (crashes w/large currenty amts)
o Fix other minor glitches
o Add a waiting pointer during scan of CONNECT.LOG
1.1 o Add menu selections to replace button commands.
o Added Options Menu, allows choice of either automatic scan for
CONNECT.LOG or manual file/directory selection.
o Added parsing feature to work properly with the latest Dialer (1.45),
which now stores the year along with the date of each session log.
Changed the NetTime icon from an analog stopwatch to a digital
stopwatch (for those wondering what the hell that thing was).
o Changed the format of the output window to allow the row headers
to always be viewable.
To Install Nettime
------------------
Copy all of the included files to any directory. Type NETTIME at any
OS/2 prompt, or click on the NETTIME icon from the desktop.
Sorry, as of now there is no installation utility that automatically adds
the NetTime object to the Internet Connection folder on the desktop!
To Run Nettime
--------------
IMPORTANT: You *Must* have a copy of VROBJ.DLL to successfuly run NETTIME.
NETTIME will not run properly without this module. This file is not included
to keep the zip file size to a minimum.
You must also make sure that connection logging is active with your Dialer.
Do this by clicking the right mouse button on the "Dialer" icon (the phone
icon) in your Internet Connection folder, and select the "Logging" tab
from the settings notebook. Make sure "Logging Enabled" is selected.
To keep track of several months of useage, make sure the logging file size
is adequate - this may require some experimentation depending on your
Internet useage.
NetTime will automatically scan your hard drive for the CONNECT.LOG, starting
with drive C, then D, then E, and so on. It will *always* look for the
file x:\TCPIP\ETC\CONNECT.LOG, where "x" is the search drive. However,
you may tell NetTime what file to look at for your LOG file IF you choose to
place this file in a different directory...see below for an explanation.
Configuring NetTime
-------------------
Once you have NetTime up and running, you may select the Options Menu to"Edit Charges"
configure NetTime. The following menus are available:
Edit Charges
------------
NetTime is shipped with default charges of $29.95 for a "base" fee,
which includes 30 hours of useage. Additional hours are billed at
$3.00/hr. If Advantis changes its pricing structure, simply modify
the settings in this window.
Log File Location
-----------------
When selected, you will be able to tell NetTime to automatically scan
your drives, from C to Z, for the first occurance of the
x:\tcpip\etc\connect.log (where x is the drive) file. OR, you may
select a specific directory/file to parse. Selecting a specific file
to load and parse is a tad quicker, and provides greater flexibility -
the filename does not have to be CONNECT.LOG - it can be any renamed
log file. However, selecting Auto Scan is typically simpler for the
computer novice.
All configuration choices are stored in NETTIME.INI, an OS/2 program
information file.
