MODEM LIST FOR IAK
This is a list of modems and their associated recommended initiation
string parameters for use with the "Dial Other Provider" dialer that
is included with IBM's IAK.
It vastly increases the number of modems supported directly. It uses
the initiation strings IBM suggests for the IBM Internet Dialer which
I have found to be better and more correct than those used for the
"Dial Other Provider". It consists of all the modems included in the
list of modems used for IBM Internet Dialer (Advantis) MODEM.LST dated
7/28/95. For some reason, IBM periodically updates MODEM.LST and
makes it available from "Retrieve Software Updates". So far, they
have not updated MODEM.IAK used with the "Dial Other Provider" object
since September 1994.
All you need to do to install MODEM.IAK is:
- Go into TCPIP\ETC and rename MODEM.IAK to MODEM.OLD
- Unzip MODEMIAK.ZIP and place the new MODEM.IAK in your TCPIP\ETC directory
- Now go back to your Modem Info page in the PPP configuration and re-choose your
modem. The new modem information should flow into the other spaces. If you do
not perform this step, the prior modem information will still be in effect.
- If you want to go back to the using the original initiation strings
either delete MODEM.IAK and rename MODEM.OLD to MODEM.IAK or
directly enter the strings in the Modem Page of "Modify Settings"
in the "Dial Other Provider" object.
NOTE: If you still have connection problems and suspect that the modem
initiation string(s) may be a contributor, using the same string(s)
that you normally use for either BBS or CIS connections will generally
work. With my modem, I use AT&F (factory settings) and that is all.
This string works for all my connections to CIS and BBS's. If you
want to try a single initiation string, put it all in the "Initiation
String #1" box on the Modem Page of the dialer setup.
***** DISCLAIMER *****
This is a "one time" effort by me and I make no representations in
regards to ever doing it again. As it is an ACCII file, any
changes/additions can be made as long as the entry follows the same
format. The file was created by directly importing MODEM.LST into
DeScribe and using "Search and Replace" macros, adding the "BAUD"
information and reformating the init string locations. No changes
were made to the strings themselves. They are still IBM's recommended
strings.
