* MailGate 0.25 - BETA VERSION *
Thanks for taking the time to evaluate MailGate. You will discover that it
supplies almost all of the functions a modern BBS system may need, with
the cheapest registration fee x functionality, all in just one package!
Whenever upgrading previous configurations of MailGate, make sure the
current copy you are installing is upgrading the version imediately
before this one, otherwise altered configuration files will NOT be
updated.
For users of previous versions of MG: If you were using the ECHO VIP
database to exchange fidonet packets through the Internet, *please*
check the help for the ALIAS database, since these two databases were
merged and therefore, the ECHO VIP does not exist anymore. Part of
the funcionality of the ALIAS server was doing what the ECHO VIP was
there for, and since it was more flexible, we decided to make this
important change. The configuration from the ECHO VIP was imported
into the ALIAS base, *but* you need to update these entries!
* Important note before proceeding:
MailGate is a program designed to work under Fidonet AND/OR Internet.
By no means need you have access to the Internet to use MailGate, nor
need you have to set up a Fidonet BBS system to use the Internet features
of MailGate.
In other words, choose the kind of configuration you need to use, and
completely forget/ignore the other part, if you are not going to use it
at the moment. MailGate can be used as a Fidonet-only program, it can be
used as an Internet-only program, and in the most complete set up,
integrating mail to/from Fidonet and Internet.
For Binkley/Portal of Power users: MG only recognizes *.MSG files when
converting netmail to email, fax, etc. So, before you pack your netmail
messages in the echomail bundles, make sure you execute MG.EXE first!
This can be easily worked out in your *.BAT main file.
------------
* Installing MailGate 0.25 ( - BETA VERSION - ):
Unpack the MG package in an empty subdirectory (MG.ZIG);
Run: MGSETUP.EXE INSTALL
Update your autoexec.bat file, adding/changing:
SET MG=\MG
PATH=\MG
* Updating the previous version of MailGate:
- Back-up your current version of MG. Be on the safe side.
- Run MGSETUP.EXE to automatically update any modified structure.
- Double check the configuration and make any necessary changes.
<< If the current copy is MG025, MGSETUP will only be able to update
the configuration from MG024 >>
The complete documentation is inside MGSETUP.EXE. Always use F1 in all
options to get an ON-LINE help. There is an option in the first menu that
will create the entire MailGate documentation. Please note that the original
package comes with a pre-configured Documentation. MG allows you to
create your own, customized DOC, and have it available with F1 in all menus.
The original documentation comes as MG.TXT. Go to the first menu of
MGSETUP and create the MG.DOC file. To save space, it was not supplied in the
package.
You can update MG.TXT, or you can start from scratch. Ask MGSETUP to create
this file and include your own DOC text. Be aware, though, that the original
MG.TXT will be overwritten!
* * The command line switches of MGTOOLS.EXE were changed! Please run the
on-line help for details.
Where and how to get the lattest releases of MailGate, please check the file
MGSITES.DOC for details.
You are encouraged to distribute MailGate, as long as its contents
are not changed or removed from the original package. Please check the
"License Information" section in the MGSETUP.EXE program.
Thank you and good luck!
