  11. PREREQUISITES

  13. To make this work, you need the ability to create e-mail accounts.
  14. One way to do this is to request your ISP to create the extra
  15. accounts for you, because the mail server doesn't have to be on
  16. the same machine as Major Major.  Another way to do it is to
  17. become your own postmaster, by installing a mail server (e.g. Weasel)
  18. on your own computer.

  20. You can get Weasel from the same place as you got this program.
  21. If you don't like Weasel, you can find other SMTP and POP3
  22. servers by looking in the usual OS/2 archive sites, for
  23. example <http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/>.

  26. INSTALLATION
  27.  
  28. Create a suitable directory, e.g. D:\Apps\Major.  Unzip the zip
  29. file into that directory.  (If you're upgrading from an earlier
  30. version, unzip into the same directory as you used for that
  31. earlier version, so that you can continue to use your existing
  32. configuration data.)  Now you're ready to go.

  34. There are two executables.  Admin.EXE is the configuration program,
  35. and you should run this first.  (And you should run it again any
  36. time you want to create a new mailing list, delete a mailing list,
  37. etc.)

  39. Note that Admin.EXE does NOT create e-mail accounts.  You have to
  40. do this in your mail server software.  You need at least two
  41. mail accounts: one for Major Major itself -- this is the e-mail
  42. address that receives things like "subscribe" requests -- and
  43. then one for each mailing list you create.  To run N mailing
  44. lists you need N+1 e-mail accounts.

  46. Major.EXE is the program that checks for mail, sends out mail to
  47. people on the mailing lists, etc.  You should leave this
  48. running all the time.  If you need to terminate it, type Ctrl/C.
