Settings for the Concentric Research Corporation network.
NOTE: THIS IS FOR PPP (Point to Point Protocol and not SLIP since I never did
get SLIP to work.)
After many hours of experimentation and frustration I finally succeeded in
getting my CRC account to work with IBM's "OS/2 Warp" and OS/2 Warp Connect,s"
Internet Access Kit, hereinafter known as "IAK."
I repeat...This is for use as a PPP logon.
NOTE: Unless other wise stated these settings are case sensitive and if I have
used capital letters it means, capital letters. If I have typed in lower
case, then it means lower case.
PAGE 1 of the IAK notebook (LOGIN INFO)
*Name: CRIS (or whatever name you wish to use.) The asterisk means
it is a required field, but what you put there is free form.)
Description: CRCLocal (Free form again and this is what I use.

joeblow@PPP (your name in lower case & PPP in upper case.)
Password: Your password as given to the CRC people by you.
Phone Number: The phone number given to you for your area by the persons
at CRC.
Login Sequence: Leave blank. Nada, nyet, nothing in this large window.
Connection Type. There are 2 radio buttons, 1 marked SLIP & 1 marked PPP.
Hit the PPP button with your mouse pointer.

you wish.

PAGE 3 of the IAK Notebook (Server Info)
News server: news.cris.com
Gopher Server: gopher.cris.com
WWW Server: www.cris.com
Mail Gateway: mail.cris.com
Pop3 mail Server: pop3.cris.com
Reply domain: cris.com
Reply mail ID: id@pop3.cris.com
(Example: ID=e-mail name you use
like jblow@cris.com This may or may not be the
same as your user ID. My user ID is different in
my case since I used my e-mail ID in another
subscription to CRC so I had to pick another name
.....so whatever)
Pop login ID: jblow
(Whatever your e-mail ID is as in above
example)
Pop Password: xxxxx (Whatever your password is...it remains
the same for everything.)
N.B. After all of the above information is filled in, you can click on
the close notebook button (upper left button) and it will ask if you
wish to save settings. Click on "yes." Click on Dial and you should be
up and running. It takes 30 or 40 seconds or more to complete the
connection. When you see the phrase in the "Status Window".........
"Connector completed" you are not done so don't panic.
It takes another 50 or 60 seconds to really complete.
When you see the phrase ..Use "Control C" or "Control Break" to
Terminate then you're done and on line. (Prior to the terminate message
you'll see the various 32 bit IP addresses that CRIS is using to connect.
You might copy them down at first, in case someone needs them to
debug your connection.)
Also Note: The reply mail ID: is not the same as your E-Mail address which is
your E-mail name@cris.com (i.e. jblow@cris.com) I mention
this since if you are using a Mail Reader like PostRoad Mailer as I do,
you'll need some of this information for setting up the reader>
