  5. IRC client for OS/2 allows you to run off of an IRC server.

  7. V1.0h fixes bugs when dealing with V2.8.X servers

  9. Shareware Notice

  12. This software is being distributed as shareware.  For $5.00, you will
  13. receive over the Internet a registered copy of the latest versions of
  14. the IRC, whois, Archie (when released).  Archie (level 1, non-PM) will
  15. be released before the new year unless circumstances prohibit its
  16. release).  For an additional $5.00, I will ship a disk containing the
  17. registered versions and the latest version of the documentation (including an expanded tutorial on IRC) printed on a laser printer (as well as on the disk).

  19. The source code can be purchased at $5.00 per client (electronically),
  20. or $10.00 per client (sent through the mail).  I will not send any source
  21. code to any non-registered users.  The source code may then be used in any
  22. desired fashion, however, a copyright notice MUST be kept intact for any
  23. code that includes even one line of the original, or is partially based on
  24. the original code.  A copyright notice of:  "portions Copyright (c) 1993
  25. Chris Hawkinson, Computer Solutions by Hawkinson", is acceptable.

  30. A few months back there was a REXX client written to handle WHOIS searches
  31. under OS/2.  It was simple, easy to understand, but had some problems.  I
  32. didn't use whois all that much, but when I did, I needed features that it
  33. just couldn't handle.  I developed a new REXX whois for my own use, but I
  34. wasn't satisfied.  Since it wasn't important, I shelved it.

  36. A few weeks back I started on two other clients, a IRC client and a Archie
  37. client.  With the pieces I developed for these two clients, a new whois
  38. client written in C/C++ was born.
  39.  
  40. After the whois client was released, I finished work on the IRC client,
  41. here it is.  The idea of this first IRC client is to get it into your
  42. hands so you can say what you want.  There are lots of possibilities,
  43. but I need the direction from the OS/2 crowd, not the UNIX packages.

  67. Installation

  70. 1) Copy the irc.exe to a directory on your path.
  71.  
  72. 2) Find out a host near you (see READ.ME). I used several across the U.S.,
  73.    including:
  74.  
  75.   polaris.ctr.columbia.edu (NY), close.cs.columbia.edu (NY),
  76.   hertz.njit.edu (NJ), Goren1.U.Washington.Edu (Washington)
  77.  
  78.        irc +n (your chosen nickname) +u (your user name) +r (your real name)
  79.            +h (new host) +s
  80.  
  81.    This will save the information in a file in the directory pointed to
  82.    by the ETC environment variable (or in the current directory if
  83.    the variable is not found). The system will then attempt to test
  84.    the connection.

  143. All users, non-registered and registered users get free support via
  144. the E-Mail system of the Internet, the postal service.  Registered
  145. users will also receive a BBS number, a fax number and a phone
  146. number ((914) 229-9853) to call for support.  Non-registered users
  147. attempting to use the phone number will lose all support.

  149. If you have a problem, there is a hidden option -d which will create
  150. a debug.dat file.  Get me the file, a description of the error,
  151. what you did, what it did and the server.

  170. The use of IRC for OS/2 is subject to the following terms and
  171. conditions:

  173. The copy of IRC for OS/2 that you have is distributed as shareware. You
  174. may freely copy and distribute the file IRC10H.ZIP but only AS LONG AS
  175. THIS FILE IS NOT MODIFIED IN ANY WAY and that no charges (other than a media
  176. charge or connect time) are applied to the person receiving the file.  The
  177. only exception to this is for the Walnut Creek CDROM collection which this file
  178. may be included for profit.  You may NOT distribute individual components of
  179. IRC10H.ZIP, either as-is or in modified form, without written permission from
  180. Chris Hawkinson (or Computer Solutions by Hawkinson).

  182. Since IRC for OS/2 is distributed as shareware, you may use it for a
  183. 30-day trial period, as long as you agree to the provisions of this license
  184. agreement. If you continue to use IRC for OS/2 beyond the 30-day trial
  185. period, you are obligated to register it. Instructions for registering
  186. IRC for OS/2 can be found in the 'Registering' sections of READ.ME.

  188. When you register IRC for OS/2, you will receive a single user,
  189. registered copy. You may not distribute the registered copy nor may
  190. it be possible for more than one user to use the software at the same

  197. IRC for OS/2 will meet your requirements or that its operation will be
  198. uninterrupted or error free.  In no event will Chris Hawkinson (or Computer
  199. Solutions by Hawkinson)'s liability for any damages to you or any other
  200. person ever exceed the registration fee that was paid to Chris Hawkinson
  201. (or Computer Solutions by Hawkinson).

  203. Chris Hawkinson (or Computer Solutions by Hawkinson) SHALL NOT IN ANY
  204. CASE BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, INDIRECT OR
