               GammaTech Internet Relay Chat Demo
               Version 3.00     November 24, 1997

This package contains the demo version of the GammaTech Internet Relay
Chat software. This IRC client is a Presentation Manager application
which brings a unique graphical user interface to the OS/2 IRC
enthusiast. A few of the features of this software are shown below:

   Presentation Manager GUI interface.
   Script support via REXX.
   Cut, Copy and Paste support.
   Resizable windows with automatic text wrapping.
   Automatically updated list of users on a channel.
   Separate windows for each channel.
   Separate windows for query sessions with other users.
   Scroll back buffer for each output window.
   Toolbar configurable with user specified commands.
   Popup menues for ease of use.
   Ability to add user defined items to popup menues.
   Color coding of nick names, your nick name, etc.
   Tab nick name completion.
   Notification of incoming CTCP commands.
   User definable lists of favorite channels and nicknames.
   DCC Chat and Send support. DCC Get is automated.
   Session logging and tracing support.
   Beep while Away and away message logging support.
   Session time display for each channel and query.
   Internal protection from several forms of IRC harassments.
   Complete documentation including an IRC primer.
   Online help for all supported IRC commands.
   Sound support.
   And of course, much much more :-)

System requirements:

   OS/2 Warp 4.0 -or- OS/2 Warp 3.0 + Internet Access
   Connectivity to an Internet Service Provider.
   OS/2 REXX support installed.

Enhancements:

   A list of new features and enhancements in this release may be
   found at the end of this file.

The demo version of the GammaTech Internet Relay Chat client is a full
featured version of the commercial product. The following differences
and restrictions apply:

   Full technical support is provided for the commercial product.
   Electronic access for defects are made available for the
   commercial product. No support is provided for the demo.

   The commercial product provides a installation program and a
   registration form.

   This demo and the commercial product are not shareware. The demo is
   intended to show the features of the product so you may make an
   informed decision as to licensing the commercial product.

   This demo version permits unlimited use of all features of the
   product except that setings may not be saved. The inabiliy to
   save settings effectively disables some features of the product.

To install the demo:

   1. Go to an OS/2 command line prompt.
   2. Create a directory for the demo files.
   3. Unzip the gtirc300.zip file into the new directory.
   4. From the new directory, run the makeicon.cmd file.
      It will ask you for the drive and path of the demo
      directory and create a program object on your desktop
      for the GammaTech Internet Relay Chat executable and
      documentation.

To execute the demo IRC program:

   1. Establish a connection with your Internet Service Provider.
   2. Double click on the GtIrc progam object icon.


Availability and pricing:

   The commercial product will be available December 1, 1998.
   Orders may be placed using our secure server and the product
   downloaded immediately. The URL is:

   Telephone orders may be placed through SofTouch Systems at

   Special pricing is avialable for all customers from December
   1, 1997 through January 31, 1998. During this time frame the
   product is available for a license price of $24.95 USD.

   After January 31, 1998 the price increases to $34.95 for all
   customers.

   Customers who have licensed previous versions of GtIrc on or
   after October 1, 1997 are elgible for a free upgrade to 3.0.

              Changes and Enhancements in Version 3.00

--- Connect Items ---
* The Server Dialog has been replaced with a Connect Dialog which
  permits configuring servers by network and provides easier
  configuring of server selection priorities.

--- Color Related ---
* Added option to Color dialog to strip mIrc color codes.

--- DCC items ---
* The CTCP Options menu item has been renamed to CTCP/DCC...
* Options have been added to the CTCP/DCC Dialog to permit
  automatic accept of DCC Chat and DCC Get requests.

--- Rexx Script Items ---
* The "Startup /Cmd" feature found in the Startup Dialog has been
  replaced with two new REXX exit functions. The new Initialize
  exit is run one time when the client is started. The new Connect
  exit is run each time a connection is made with an IRC server.
  Both exits are REXX scripts. Sample scripts are provided with
  the names rexxinit.cmd and rexxconn.cmd.

--- Output Window Items ---
* The channel topic is now displayed in the title bar.
* The number of nicknames joined to a channel is now displayed in
  a new area just above the nick list.
* An option is now provided to flag messages containing bells.

--- Input Window Items ---
* Option added to Preferences Dialog to disable the Ctrl-Left and
  Ctrl-Right recall function so that those keystrokes act normally.
* Input window height may now be configured in the Preferences dialog.
* Tab nickname completion is now supported.

--- Commands ---
* Added the /SERVER command to connect with or change servers.
* Added the /DISCONNECT command to disconnect from the server but
  leave the client up and any active DCC sessions.
* Added timer support via the /TIMER command which permits /command
  or script execution when a timer pops. Timer events can be one
  time, recurring, or based on idle time.
* Added the /ONOT command which sends a notice to all channel ops.
* The /version command now displays the version of OS/2 being run
  on the client machine.
* Documented the new /userip command available on Undernet.
* A new /Menu command permits the user to add custom menu items
  to several popup menus.

--- NickList Related Items ---
* Increased the capacity of the nicklist from 200 to 500 entries.

--- Message Control ---
* Option added to preferences to use -> instead of <nick> on messages
  we send when they are displayed back to us in out window.
* Add CTCP Replies to the message route message types.
* Added option to timestamp all private messages when away or always.
* added option to show user@host of all private messages.
* Created a new Messages Dialog and moved several options from
  the Preferences Dialog to it.

--- Sound Items Items ---
* A new option on the Sound dialog permits playing of sounds
  locally as well as on the target system.

--- Notify Items ---
* The display of users signed on or off generated by the
  /Notify command is more readable and all users signed on
  are listed before the list of users signed off.
* Increased the number of notify nicks permitted from 40 to 100.

--- $Variables  ---
* Pressing F2-F9 while in the input area will insert text
  assigned to IRC variables $F2 - $F9.
* New IRC $Variables: $AWAY $CHANNELNAME $SELECTEDNICK $TIMEIDLE
  $TIMEONSERV $TIMEONCHAN $USERHOST

--- ON Message Items ---
* The On Message feature now permits trapping of several different
  message types such as CTCP, Private Messages, Private Notices, etc.
  Note the the help for On Message has changed in several ways.
* Added a On Message option to execute a standalone rexx script.
  Variable passed is the raw IRC message.

--- Miscellaneous Items ---
* A message recorder has been added to the Messages Dialog which
  records private messages while away and replays them when you return,
* The ToolBar may now be hidden via a new option in the Preferences
  Dialog.
* Netsplit detection is now an option on the Preferences dialog.
* Added channel topic to the Channel Mode dialog.
* AutoAway feature based on inactivity timer via new rexxaway.cmd script.
* When set Away, the time status area changes to the away message
  in red characters.
