  7. INSTALLATION NOTES:
  8. -------------------
  9.  
  10.  1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order to install this driver.
  11.  
  12.  2.  The OS/2 ATTRIB command is used during installation.  If you elected not
  13.      to install the OS/2 System Utility Programs or you have deleted the
  14.      ATTRIB, command you must use Selective Install to restore the ATTRIB
  15.      command before continuing.
  16.  
  17.  3.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return to VGA resolution using
  18.      the instructions in the "Recovering from an Incorrect Display Type
  19.      Selection" section of your OS/2 User's Manual.
  20.  
  21.  4.  You must have run the S64DMODE.EXE utility and selected a monitor
  22.      from the Stealth 64 Installation disk prior to installing these
  23.      drivers.  **You must select a predefined monitor, as Custom does not 
  24.      work properly under OS/2.  If you have not done this, do so now.  Note, 
  25.      that the S64DMODE.EXE which is on this disk, does not list Custom monitor 
  26.      as an option.  Refer to instructions in the Stealth 64 User's Manual for 
  27.      running S64DMODE.EXE and selecting a monitor.
  28.  
  29. 5.   The volume labels for the diskettes must be 'S3 DRV1' and 'S3 DRV2' for
  30.      the first and second diskettes respectively.
  31.  
  32. INSTALLATION:
  33. -------------
  34.  
  35. This video accelerator driver is compatible with OS/2 2.1x and 3.0.  Do not
  36. install it over any display driver other than VGA.
  37.  
  38.  1.  Place the Stealth 64 DRAM OS/2 driver diskette #1 into drive A (or any
  39.      other diskette drive).
  40.  
  41.  2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  42.  
  43.  3.  Change to the OS/2 directory.  Then type 'attrib -r -s -h screen0*.sys'.
  44.  
  45.  4.  Then switch to the floppy drive where you inserted the Stealth 64 OS/2 
  46.      driver disk.  Then, at the prompt, type the following command:
  47.  
  48.      S3INST A: C:
  49.  
  50.           where:  A: is the diskette drive
  51.                   C: is the drive where OS/2 2.1x or 3.0 is installed
  52.  
  53.      This command will copy all necessary files to the OS/2 drive.  
  54.      You will be requested to put disk #2 into the drive.
  55.  
  56.  5.  When S3INST has completed executing, remove the diskette from the 
  57.      diskette drive, perform a shutdown, and then restart the system.
  58.  
  59.  6.  Open the "OS/2 System" folder.
  60.  
  61.  7.  Open the "System Setup" folder.
  62.  
  63.  8.  Open the "Display Driver Install" (DSPINSTL) object.
  64.  
  65.      When the Display Driver Install window appears, chose primary display,
  66.      then select "OK".
  67.  
  68.      The Primary Display Adapter type window will then appear with 
  69.      a list of drivers.  You will want to select the '32-bit S3 Display
  70.      Drivers v2.57'. This should be toward the beginning of the list.  
  71.      Then click "OK".
  72.  
  73.      When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility window appears,
  74.      the "Install Using Defaults for Monitor Type" option is preselected.
  75.      Select the "Install Using Display Adapter Utility Program" option, then
  76.      select "OK".
  77.  
  78.  9.  The Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility Location window should
  79.      appear.  For the Utility Location, type:
  80.  
  81.              C:\S64D\UTIL\S64DMODE.EXE MONITOR
  82.  
  83.      If you installed S64DMODE into a different directory, modify the above
  84.      path accordingly.  Select "OK".
  85.  
  86.  10. When the source directory pop-up window appears, insert the Stealth 64
  87.      OS/2 Driver diskette 1 of 2, and select Install.
  88.  
  89.      DSPINSTL determines the hardware configuration by creating the
  90.      SVGADATA.PMI file on the drive where the OS2 directory is located.
  91.      If the SVGADATA.PMI file has not been created, the adapter will not be
  92.      supported.
  93.  
  94.  11.  When the installation is complete, do the following:
  95.        a.  Open "OS/2 System".
  96.        b.  Open "System Setup".
  97.        c.  Open the "System" object.  The Screen page of the Settings
  98.            notebook lists all the supported resolutions for your
  99.            configuration.
  100.        d.  Select a resolution; then, close the notebook.
  101.  
  102.  12.  Perform a shutdown; then, restart the system.
  103.  
  104. Note that during the installation of this driver a DISPLAY.LOG file is
  105. created in the OS2\INSTALL directory.  This file identifies the OS/2 2.1
  106. system files that were updated and indicates whether the installation was
  107. successful.  The contents of this file might be useful if you need to report
  108. an installation problem to Diamond Multimedia Systems.
  109.  
  110. Known Limitations
  111. -----------------
  112.  
  113.   S64DMODE monitor selections
  114.   --------------------------
  115.   The Custom monitor selection does not work properly with OS/2.  You will
  116.   need to select one of the predefined monitors.
  117.  
  118.   DOS Sessions and Applications
  119.   -----------------------------
  120.   With the program VPIC6 under FS DOS, GIFs cannot be viewed in the 1280x1024
  121.   resolution.
  122.  
  123.   OS/2 Full Screen Sessions and Applications
  124.   ------------------------------------------
  125.   Context switching from Win-OS/2 full screen to OS/2 full screen may
  126.   produce a distorted text in OS/2 full screen.
  127.  
  128.   MMPM/2
  129.   ------
  130.   When using 16.7Million colors, Digital Video will display black on the screen.
  131.   This is a limitation of MMPM/2, and 32-bpp modes.
