  22. A) What's new?
  23. ==============
  24.    The installation of the OS/2 driver for SPEA V7 graphic boards has now
  25.    been simpified. In order to enable more comfortable use of the driver
  26.    under OS/2 we have included a new tool, V7SETOS2.
  27.    The installation is quite different to this previous description in the
  28.    manuals and README files.
  29.    In addition, the driver has been complemented with HiColor and - according
  30.    to the board and memory available - TrueColor capability.

  33. B) Properties of the Driver
  34. ===========================
  35.    This driver supports the following resolutions and color depth in the
  36.    OS/2 Workplace Shell:
  37.       640 * 480  * 256 colors
  38.       800 * 600  * 256 colors
  39.      1024 * 768  * 256 colors
  40.      1280 * 1024 * 256 colors (Only with 2 MB videoram!)
  41.       640 * 480  * 64k colors
  42.       800 * 600  * 64k colors                            (*)
  43.      1024 * 768  * 64k colors (Only with 2 MB videoram!)

  45.   (*)  In this resolution Seamless Windows is only supported by
  46.        V7-MIRAGE boards with 2 MB videoram.
  47.  
  48.    The BigWin driver can be installed in the Windows Session in all available
  49.    resolutions and also with color depth higher than 256 colors.
  50.    Also if the BigWin is configured in another resolution than the OS/2
  51.    environment it is possible to switch between both surfaces without
  52.    any problems.

  54. C) Requirements for Installation
  55. ================================
  56.    OS/2 has to be installed and runs with standard VGA driver or and older
  57.    BigBlue driver with the V7-MIRAGE board in the OS/2 environment as
  58.    well.
  59.    Note: You need the V7-MIRAGE "Drivers for Windows" Disk for the
  60.    installation.

  63. D) Installation of the OS/2 Drivers
  64. ===================================
  65. 1. (Only when drivers are downloaded from mailbox)
  66.    Extract the files to an 1.44MB floppy a name this disk "V7-MIRAGE
  67.    BigBlue v2.01".
  68.  
  69. 2. Start OS/2.
  70.    Important: before beginning the installation shut down any running
  71.    OS/2 and Windows programs!
  72.    Open a fullscreen session or an OS/2 window. Put the disk labelled
  73.    "V7-MIRAGE BigBlue v2.01" in drive A: and enter:
  74.       A:\V7SETOS2
  75.    Follow the instructions on the screen and if unsure at any point,
  76.    call the online help.
  77.  
  78.    Note:
  79.    If you use OS/2 without Windows then the checkbox titled 'Use settings
  80.    in Win-OS/2 fullscreen session' will be deactivated.

  82.    After terminating the program and restarting OS/2 you have access to
  83.    the OS/2 desktop and seamless Windows with the BigBlue driver and
  84.    to Windows via the BigWin driver in the resolution and color depth
  85.    that you selected.

  88. E) Changing the resolution under OS/2 or Win-OS/2
  89. =================================================
  90. After you have installed BigBlue a new folder named "SPEA/V7" will be
  91. created on your desktop with the V7SETOS2 program icon. After starting
  92. this program you can change the resolution or color depth before restarting
  93. your system to initialize the changes.
  94.  
  95. Note the following if you wish to use a different resolution under Win-OS/2
  96. as opposed to the OS/2 desktop.
  97. 1. Deactivate the checkbox 'Use settings in Win-OS/2 fullscreen session'.
  98. 2. Start Win-OS/2. Select the options 'File' and 'Run' in the Program
  99.    Manager. Then enter V7SETUP' without a path or drive. After starting
  100.    the program make the changes for your Win-OS/2 session in the same
  101.    way as under V7SETOS2.
  102.  
  103.    Note: V7SETUP for Windows can't be started as a seamless window
  104.    application.
  105.  
  106. F) Known Restrictions
  107. =====================
  108. Videoplayer:
  109.    If you change to a fullscreen session whilst running a video then text
  110.    will be displayed in black on blak. Switching from digital video to
  111.    fullscreen windows can cause the system to crash.
  112.  
  113. V7SETOS2:
  114.    The option 'Shutdown and restart' at the end of V7SETOS2 doesn't save
  115.    opened files! Before starting the program you should therefore save
  116.    all opened files or end V7SETOS2 with the option 'Shutdown'.
  117.    If you see an error message "Error writing file" then the file is either
  118.    write-protected or currently being used by another application. Remove
  119.    the corresponding file attribute or close the other application and
  120.    then start OS/2 again before repaeting the installation.

  122. SPtune:
  123.    User modes (tuned modes) are currently not supported. They are not shown
  124.    in V7SETOS2 but are used and running if set under SPtune.

  126. G) Special information for BigBlue users working with the Beta OS/2 version,
  127.    WARP Beta II
  128. ============================================================================
  129.    The program V7SETOS2 has not yet been adapted for the new beta version
  130.    of OS/2. It is however possible to workaround this manually although
  131.    SPEA can not provide any support for problems that may arise
  132.    from using this driver with the beta version of OS/2.
  133.  
  134.    To use BigBlue with this version of OS/2 you have to manually
  135.    undertake the following steps:
  136.  
  137.    - Install as described above without restarting. Before restarting open
  138.    an OS/2 window and enter:
  139.      COPY \OS2\SCREEN*.SYS \OS2\BOOT
  140.    You can now restart OS/2 with the selected resolution.
  141.  
  142.    Win-OS/2 will however still start in VGA mode after this installation.
  143.    To change this, start a text editor and open the file SYSTEM.INI and
  144.    alter the 'display=.....' entry in the [boot] section to fdisplay=...
  145.    e.g. for a resolution with 256 colors:
  146.       fdisplay=bigws38.drv
  147.    This entry must be altered after every change to the existing color
  148.    depth setting.
