  1. IBM OS/2 2.X Driver Installation
  2.    --------------------------------
  3. THIS IS A CORRECTION TO THE README TEXT INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED BY PACKARD BELL.  IF YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE THE HEADLAND TECHNOLOGIES SVGA DRIVER FOR OS2.  This fix was discovered by Mark Fritz

  5. NOTE: If you do not have OS/2 2.1+, contact IBM and request OS/2 2.1+
  6.       (beta or release).  The following assumes you are installing
  7.       OS/2 2.1+.
  8.  
  9. The following steps are required to add OS/2 2.1 support for the HT216
  10. family of SVGA controllers.  These steps assume the HT216 distribution
  11. disk is in drive A and OS/2 is on drive C.
  12.  
  13. 1) Install OS/2 2.1 normally.
  14.  
  15. 2) Create the HEADLAND subdirectory.
  16.     a. Open a DOS window.
  17.     b. Type "md os2\headland".
  18.  
  19. 3) Unzip the HT216 OS/2 support files.
  20.     a. Type "A:" or "B:", whichever drive is the 3.5" drive.
  21.     b. Type "pkunzip os2_2x c:\os2\headland".
  22.  
  23. 4) Rename SVGA.EXE.
  24.     a. Type "C:".
  25.     b. Type "cd \os2".
  26.     c. Type "rename SVGA.EXE SVGA_IBM.EXE"
  27.     d. Type "copy headland\SVGA.EXE".
  28.  
  29. 5) Rename VSVGA.SYS
  30.     a. Type "cd mdos".
  31.     b. Type "rename VSVGA.SYS VSVGAIBM.SYS".
  32.     c. Type "copy ..\headland\VSVGA.SYS".
  33.  
  34. 6) Rename BVHSVGA.DLL
  35.     a. Type "cd\os2\dll".
  36.     b.  Type "rename BVHSVGA.DLL BVHSVGAI.DLL"
  37.     c.  Type "copy C:\os2\headland\BVHAVGA.DLL" 
  38.     d. Type "exit".
  39.  
  40. 7) Update CONFIG.SYS using "OS/2 System Editor
  41.     a. Open the file C:\CONFIG.SYS with OS/2 System Editor.
  42.     b. Find the line that starts with "LIBPATH=.;C:\..."
  43.     c. Modify this line to include the HEADLAND subdirectory.
  44.         "LIBPATH=C:\OS2\HEADLAND;.;C:\..."
  45.     d. Save the changed file.
  46.  
  47. 8) Restart OS/2.
  48.  
  49. 9) Change display resolution.
  50.     a.  Start "Selective Install" from the System Setup folder.
  51.     b.  Select "Super Video Graphics Array" for Primary display
  52.         if it is not already chosen.
  53.     c.  Select "OK" button.
  54.     d.  Select "INSTALL" button.
  55.     e.  After a few minutes of processing, a dialog box will appear
  56.         with a choice of display resolutions.  Choose one.
  57.     f.  If asked if you want to update the BVHSVGA.DLL file answer no.
  58.  
  59. 10) Restart OS/2.  Your new resolution will be in use.
  60.  
  61. 11) There is one bug in the driver.  When you enter a OS2 full screen session your screen will be full of garbage.  
  62.     To correct type "SVGA"  the screen will clear and everything will be normal.
