* OS/2 2.0 DRIVER INSTALLATION for the HP UltraVGA *
****************************************************
The drivers included on this disk provide support for the OS/2 2.0
Presentation Manager in the following resolutions:
800x600x256 colors (Requires 1MB of memory)
1024x768x256 colors (Requires 1MB of memory)
Note: For these resolutions the HP VRAM Upgrade Kit must be installed.
Please refer to your "Setting up your HP Vectra PC" manual
for further information concerning Video RAM upgrades.
For the Standard VGA resolution (640x480x16 colors) which does not need
the HP VRAM Upgrade Kit, please type the following commands:

CAUTION:
~~~~~~~
To install and use these drivers, your OS/2 2.0 system must have been
upgraded with the IBM OS/2 2.0 SERVICE PAK, or your OS/2 version must
be above 2.0.
OS/2 2.0 ENHANCED DRIVER INSTALLATION
=====================================
1. Run OS/2 2.0.
2. Copy the following VGA files to a backup diskette:
c:\config.sys
c:\os2\dll\bvhvga.dll
c:\os2\dll\courier.fon
c:\os2\dll\display.dll
c:\os2\dll\helv.fon
c:\os2\dll\times.fon
c:\os2\mdos\vvga.sys
if the OS/2 boot drive is not C:, replace the c: in the above
lines with the appropriate boot drive letter (D:, E:, etc.)
| NOTE:
| ~~~~
| Keep this backup diskette in a safe place.
| In case of any problem or to go back to Standard VGA,
| you will need it.
3. Insert the "OS/2 2.0 Video Driver Disc" diskette in Drive A.
4. Go to A:
5. Type "dspinstl" (dspinstl.exe is the installation program).
6. Wait for the "Display Driver Install" dialog box to come up.
7. Mark the box next to "Primary Display" and click the "OK" button.
8. Wait for the "Primary Display Adapter Type" dialog box to come up.
9. Select "HP UltraVGA Video drivers" and click the "OK" button.
10. Wait for the "Display device" dialog box.
11. Select one of the following refresh rates and click the "OK" button:
60Hz Vertical refresh
72Hz Vertical refresh
| CAUTION:
| ~~~~~~~
| Be sure the refresh rate and the resolution are set within the
| capabilities of your display. Otherwise, you may damage it.
| The resolutions and refresh rates for each HP display are shown
| in the following table:

| If you are using a display from a different manufacturer,
| refer to your display manual to verify which screen resolutions
| and vertical refresh it supports.
12. Wait for the "Select Display Resolution" dialog box.
13. Select one of the possible resolutions (see IMPORTANT NOTE above)
and click the "OK" button.
14. The "Source Directory" dialog comes up. Click on the "Install" button.
15. Wait for the "Display Driver Install" dialog box.
16. It may ask if you want to overwrite some of the following files.
Answer "YES" for each file.
c:\os2\dll\display.dll
c:\os2\dll\bvhvga.dll
c:\os2\dll\times.fon
c:\os2\dll\courier.fon
c:\os2\dll\helv.fon
17. The "Display Driver Install" dialog box will return.
Click on the "Cancel" button.
18. Another dialog box will inform you that changes have been made
to the system configuration and that you must shutdown and
restart your system.
19. Remove your diskette from the drive.
20. Shutdown and restart OS/2.
GOING BACK TO STANDARD VGA
==========================
1. Have your backup diskette ready (see step 2 in the previous section).
2. Insert the "IBM OS/2 INSTALL DISC" in drive A:
3. Boot up your computer.
4. When asked, insert the "OS/2 2.0 System diskette #1".
5. At the first prompt, type <ESC> to exit the installation procedure.
You are now in OS/2 2.0's command-line entry mode.
| NOTE:
| ~~~~
| You HAVE to run your system this way, because the normal boot
| on OS/2 won't give you access to some critical system-protected
| files.
6. Insert your backup diskette in drive A:
7. Copy the files from drive A: to drive C:
Here is the correct list of files to copy:
c:\config.sys
c:\os2\dll\bvhvga.dll
c:\os2\dll\courier.fon
c:\os2\dll\display.dll
c:\os2\dll\helv.fon
c:\os2\dll\times.fon
c:\os2\mdos\vvga.sys
if the OS/2 boot drive is not C:, replace the c: in the above
lines with the appropriate boot drive letter (D:, E:, etc.)
8. Remove your diskette from the drive.
9. Restart OS/2.
IMPORTANT NOTES
===============
* Seamless Windows(TM) is not supported by these drivers.
* The WIN-OS/2 environment is currently supported using the standard
VGA drivers only.
HP Ultra VGA Windows drivers are not supported within OS/2.
Do not attempt to install any HP Ultra VGA Windows drivers into
the WIN-OS/2 environment.
