  9. This driver is designed to function with OS/2 Version 2.11 and OS/2 3.0 Warp 
  10. operating systems.

  12. 2.0 Hardware

  15. These drivers support Chips And Technologies 65545 and 65548 Flat Panel/CRT
  16. graphics accelerator adapters in a PCI Bus configuration.
  17.  
  18. 3.0 Supported Features
  19. ----------------------
  20.  
  21. This graphics accelerator driver is designed to function as a 32-bit
  22. Presentation Manager graphics display driver under the OS/2 32 bit graphics
  23. engine, and provides Seamless Windows 3.1 support.
  24.  
  25. This display driver also supports setting the CRT screen refresh rate using
  26. the System-Settings notebook in the OS/2 System Setup folder.

  28. 3.1 Supported Resolutions
  29. -------------------------
  30.  
  31. Supported resolutions are provided based on availablity in Video BIOS. Not all
  32. systems have all resolutions provided, and may be display mode ( LCD/Simul/CRT )
  33. dependent.

  39. 4.0 Driver Installation 
  40. -----------------------

  42. 4.1 Preliminary Steps
  43. ---------------------
  44.  
  45. The following steps must be performed before you install the 65545/65548
  46. display driver:
  47.   
  48.   1. OS/2 DOS Support must be installed. 
  49.  
  50.   2. If you previously installed SVGA support, you must do the following:
  51.  
  52.      a) Close all DOS Full Screen and WIN-OS2 sessions. 
  53.  
  54.      b) Reset the system to VGA mode. VGA is the default video mode enabled
  55.         when OS/2 is installed. To restore VGA mode, use Selective Install and
  56.     select VGA for Primary Display. For more information on this procedure,
  57.     see the section on Changing Display Adapter Support in the OS/2 Users
  58.         Guide.

  62. 4.2 Installing from Diskette
  63. ----------------------------
  64.  
  65. To install this driver, do the following steps:
  66.  
  67.   1. Open an OS/2 full-screen or windowed-session. 
  68.  
  69.   2. Place the 65545/65548 PCI Display Driver Diskette in drive A.
  70.  
  71.   3. At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following commands to 
  72.      copy the files to the OS/2 drive:
  73.      
  74.        Type A: <ENTER> to make this the default drive.
  75.  
  76.        Type SETUP A: C: <ENTER>
  77.  
  78.           where A: is the floppy disk drive and       
  79.                 C: is the hard disk partition containing \OS2    
  80.               
  81.      When the Setup Program is completed, you will need to perform a shutdown
  82.      and then restart the system in order for changes to take effect.
  83.             
  84.      A log of the information output during the install can be found
  85.      in <root>:\OS2\INSTALL\DISPLAY.LOG
  86.  
  87.   4. After restarting the system, perform the following steps:
  88.                 
  89.        1. Open the OS/2 System folder.
  90.      
  91.        2. Open the System Setup folder.
  92.       
  93.        3. Open the Display Driver Install Object
  94.       
  95.        This step will execute the Display Driver Installation ( DSPINSTL )
  96.       utility program to finish installation of the new drivers.
  97.  
  98.        4. When the Display Driver Install window appears, select Primary Display
  99.           and then select OK.
  100.     
  101.        5. When The Primary Display Driver List window appears, select    
  102.         "Chips and Technologies 65545/548 PCI" from the list of adapter
  103.       types, then select OK to install the video driver.
  104.  
  105.        6. When the installation is complete, you will need to shutdown and then
  106.       restart the system for the changes to take effect. Make sure to remove
  107.       the install diskette before restarting the system.
  108.  
  109. When the system has restarted, the display driver will be initialized for
  110. 640x480x256 Color, 60Hz refresh. To switch to a different video resolution
  111. color depth, or refresh rate, follow the steps below.
  112.  
  113. 4.3 Selecting Monitor Type
  114. --------------------------------------------
  115.  
  116. Monitor type is initially set to DEFAULT. This DEFAULT setting may not allow 
  117. you to select all resolution/refresh combinations that are available for your
  118. monitor. The following steps can be done to select monitor type. This section
  119. applies only after installation, or when a different monitor is used.
  120.  
  121.   1. Open the OS/2 System folder. 
  122.        
  123.   2. Open the System Setup folder.
  124.       
  125.   3. Open the System object.
  126.      
  127.   4. When the System - Settings notebook appears, select the Screen tab. 
  128.      This will take you to page 2 of the settings.
  129.       
  130.   5. On Screen page 2, select your monitor type from the Display Name
  131.      list. If your monitor is not listed, select DEFAULT. Return to
  132.      Screen page 1.
  133.  
  134.   It may be necessary to restart your system to have all refresh rate
  135.   options available.
  136.       
  137. 4.4 Selecting Screen Resolution/Refresh Rate
  138. --------------------------------------------
  139.  
  140. To switch to a different video resolution, color depth or refresh rate,
  141. follow the steps below.
  142.  
  143.    1. Open the OS/2 System folder. 
  144.        
  145.    2. Open the System Setup folder.
  146.       
  147.    3. Open the System object.
  148.        
  149.    4. From the selection windows provided, select a new Screen Resolution
  150.       and Screen refresh rate.
  151.  
  152.       Please note, Refresh rates, other than 60Hz, are only valid when
  153.       the display is switched to CRT only display mode.
  154.       
  155.    5. Close the System-Settings notebook.
  156.            
  157.    6. Perform a shutdown and restart for the changes to take effect. 
  158.     
  159.  
  160. 4.4 Installation Notes 
  161. ----------------------
  162.  
  163.   1. During the installation of this driver, DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files 
  164.      are created in \OS2\INSTALL directory. These files identify the OS/2 system
  165.      files that were updated and indicate whether the install was successful.
  166.      The DISPLAY.LOG file also contains a string which identifies the version of
  167.      driver that was installed. This information may be important when reporting
  168.      an installation problem.
  169.  
  170.   2. During installation, DSPINSTL will invoke the SVGA Configuration program
  171.      SVGA.EXE to determine the hardware configuration, and create the file 
  172.      \OS2\INSTALL\SVGADATA.PMI. If this file is not created, the adapter will
  173.      not be supported. When this step is done, the display will be blanked, and
  174.      you may see a series of flashes on the display, and what appears to be a
  175.      "corrupted" display. This is normal, as the configuration process is doing
  176.      Video BIOS mode sets to determine which screen resolutions BIOS supports.
  177.      This configuration information is then used to provide the System-Settings
  178.      Resolution and Refresh selections.
  179.  
  180. 5.0 WIN-OS/2 Sessions 
  181. ---------------------
  182.  
  183. Please note the following limitations regarding WIN-OS/2. 
  184.  
  185.   1. It is recommended that the user start all WIN-OS/2 sessions via one of the
  186.      WIN-OS/2 icons in the Command Prompts folder.
  187.  
  188.   2. The WIN-OS/2 session settings for both WIN-OS/2 Full Screen and WIN-OS/2
  189.      Window should be set to Enhanced Capability. The default setting is
  190.      Standard Mode. If this setting is not changed, Windows will not run
  191.      correctly. To make this change, do the following:
  192.      
  193.      1. Open the OS/2 System Folder.
  194.      2. Open Command Prompts Folder.
  195.      3. Place the mouse pointer over WIN-OS/2 Full Screen ( or WIN-OS/2 Window )
  196.     icon and press mouse button 2 ( right button) to bring up the menu.
  197.      4. Select Settings.    
  198.      5. Place the mouse pointer over the Session tab, and select by pressing
  199.     mouse button 1 ( left button ).
  200.      6. Place mouse pointer over Win-OS/2 Settings, and select by pressing    
  201.     mouse button 1 ( left button ).
  202.      7. From the Win-OS/2 Settings - Categories, select All DOS and WIN-OS/2
  203.         Settings and then select OK.
  204.      8. From the list of settings that appear, make sure that    
  205.         WIN_RUN_MODE is set to Enhanced Capability, and then "Save" these
  206.         settings.
  207.  
  208.   3. Do not start WIN-OS/2 in a DOS or OS/2 Window.  The system does 
  209.      not support the enhanced video mode being used in a window, and 
  210.      therefore will not run. 
  211.  
  212.   4. When running a full screen WIN-OS/2 session, do not use ALT-HOME to
  213.      switch to Windowed DOS session.
  214.  
  215.   5. The Windows SYSTEM.INI file may need to be modified to select the 
  216.      correct mouse driver for use on the target system. The default is
  217.      MOUSE.DRV=MOUSE.DRV. Some manufacturers may use a different mouse driver
  218.      than the default, and the driver may reside in a directory other than
  219.      the Windows root directory. In SYSTEM.INI, you will find two statements
  220.      that specify the filename of the current mouse driver, MOUSE.DRV=  and 
  221.      OS2MOUSE.DRV=  . Make sure that OS2MOUSE.DRV=  specifies the same mouse
  222.      driver and path as MOUSE.DRV= .
  223.     
  224.      Example:   MOUSE.DRV=LMOUSE.DRV     ; installed by Windows
  225.               OS2MOUSE.DRV=LMOUSE.DRV     ; installed by OS/2 Install
  226.         
  227.      If OS2MOUSE.DRV does not point to the correct mouse driver, then
  228.      WIN-OS/2 Full Screen and WIN-OS/2 Window sessions will not run.     
  229.     
  230.     
  231. 6.0 Installation Diskette Copy 
  232. ------------------------------
  233.  
  234. For proper installation of OS/2 drivers, all diskette copies must be properly
  235. labeled "CTDISP 1". 
  236.  
  237. To copy the OS/2 Display Driver Diskette, do the following steps:
  238.  
  239.    1. Copy all files on the OS/2 Display Driver Diskette as you normally would
  240.       onto another diskette. 
  241.  
  242.    2. Place the diskette copy in drive A.  At the C:\ prompt,
  243.       type LABEL A: CTDISP 1 to properly label your diskette.  Then store 
  244.       your diskette copy in a safe place.
