  1. OS/2 
  2. ---- 
  3. These drivers are designed to function with the OS/2 Version 3.0 and 2.1x 
  4. operating systems. 
  5.  
  6. Hardware 
  7. --------
  8. These drivers support Chips & Technologies 65545 and 65548 graphics chips
  9. in a PCI Bus configuration.
  10.  
  11. Driver Installation 
  12. =================== 
  13.  
  14. Before installation of this display driver, the system display should be set
  15. to VGA mode. VGA is the default video mode enabled when OS/2 is installed. 
  16.  
  17. If the current system primary display is not VGA, or if a previous version of 
  18. this driver is being used, the system should first be returned to VGA mode.
  19. To restore VGA mode, use Selective Install and select VGA for Primary Display.
  20. For more information on this procedure, see the section on Changing Display
  21. Adapter Support in the OS/2 Users Guide.

  24. To install this driver, do the following steps:
  25.  
  26.   Step 1: Open an OS/2 full screen or windowed session. 
  27.  
  28.   Step 2: Place the 65548/545 PCI Display Driver Diskette in drive A.
  29.  
  30.           Type A: <ENTER> to make this the default drive.
  31.  
  32.           Type SETUP A: C:  <ENTER>
  33.  
  34.             where A: is the floppy disk drive and       
  35.               C: is the hard disk partition containing \OS2    
  36.               
  37.       Once the Setup Program is completed, you will need to shutdown
  38.       and then restart the system in order for changes to take effect.
  39.             
  40.       A log of the information output during the install can be found
  41.       in <root>:\OS2\INSTALL\DISPLAY.LOG
  42.         
  43.  
  44.   Step 3: After restarting the system, perform the following steps:
  45.                 
  46.       1. Open the System Setup folder.
  47.       
  48.       2. Open the Display Install Object
  49.       
  50.       These steps will execute the Display Driver Installation ( DSPINSTL )
  51.       utility program to finish installation of the new drivers.
  52.  
  53.           3. Follow the instructions on the screen to select the OS/2 display 
  54.             driver in your system.
  55.  
  56.          Select Primary Display from the System Configuration Window.
  57.  
  58.          Select Chips and Technologies 65548/545 PCI from the list of
  59.          Primary Display Adapter Types.
  60.  
  61. After the install program has completed, you will need to shutdown and then
  62. restart the system for the changes to take effect.
  63.  
  64. The display driver will be initialized for 640x480x256 Color.
  65.  
  66. To switch to a different video resolution or color depth, follow the steps
  67. below.

  69. Change Video Resolution/Refresh Selection
  70. ========================================= 
  71.  
  72.   Step 4: To change the screen resolution/color depth, or screen refresh rate
  73.       do the following:
  74.   
  75.       1) Open the System Setup folder.
  76.       
  77.       2) Open the System Object.
  78.  
  79.       3) From the list of available screen resolutions, select a 
  80.          resolution.
  81.  
  82.          From the list of screen refresh rates, select a refresh value.
  83.  
  84.          Point to the title-bar icon and double click. This will close
  85.          System Settings and save your selection.
  86.          
  87.          See Changing Screen Resolution in OS/2 Users Guide for more
  88.          information.

  91.         The system must now be shut down and restarted for the changes to take
  92.     effect. 
  93.     
  94.  
  95. WIN-OS/2 
  96. ======== 
  97. Please note the following limitations regarding WIN-OS/2. 
  98.  
  99.     1. The WIN-OS/2 full screen session should be set to Enhanced 
  100.     Capability.  The default setting is Standard Mode.  If this setting 
  101.     is not changed, Windows will not run correctly.
  102.  
  103.     2. WIN-OS/2 should be started by selecting the WIN-OS/2 Full Screen 
  104.     Icon in the Command Prompts folder,  or with the WIN command in a DOS 
  105.     Full Screen or OS/2 Full Screen session. 
  106.  
  107.     3. Do not start WIN-OS/2 in a DOS or OS/2 Window.  The system does 
  108.     not support the enhanced video mode being used in a window, and 
  109.     therefore will not run. 
  110.  
  111.     4. When running a full screen WIN-OS/2 session, do not use ALT-HOME to
  112.     switch to Windowed DOS session.

  115. Driver diskette copy 
  116. ==================== 
  117. For proper installation of OS/2 drivers, all diskette copies must be properly
  118. labeled "CTDISP 1". 
  119.  
  120. To copy the OS/2 Display Driver Diskette, follow these instructions: 
  121.  
  122.     Step 1: Copy all files on the OS/2 Display Driver Diskette as you 
  123.         normally would onto another diskette. 
  124.  
  125.     Step 2: Place the diskette copy in drive A.  At the C:\ prompt, 
  126.     type LABEL A: CTDISP 1 to properly label your diskette.  Then store 
  127.     your diskette copy in a safe place.
