  56.   The Cirrus Logic 5426, 5428, 5430, 5434 device driver
  57.   provides seamless support for accelerated display graphics
  58.   and advanced color resolutions when used with the minimum
  59.   required video memory.  It conforms to the OS/2 32-bit
  60.   flat memory model and is designed to function as a 32-bit
  61.   Presentation Manager* graphics display driver under
  62.   the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.  This driver has
  63.   been enabled for use with the IBM* Distributed Console
  64.   Access Facility* (DCAF) product.

  90.   Cirrus Logic 5426, 5428, 5430, 5434 chip sets with the specified
  91.   amount of memory.  IBM is continuing to test; therefore, support
  92.   for additional cards might be added over time.

  121.   2.0  COMPATIBILITY

  124.   This graphics accelerator driver is compatible with
  125.   OS/2 2.1, 2.11, OS/2 for Windows, and OS/2 Warp 3.

  128.   3.0  PRELIMINARY STEPS
  129.   ______________________
  130.  
  131.   The following steps prepare your computer for the
  132.   Cirrus Logic device driver:
  133.  
  134.   1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order
  135.       to install this driver.
  136.   2.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return
  137.       to VGA resolution using the procedures in
  138.       "Setting Your Display to VGA Mode" later in this
  139.       README before you install this driver.
  140.  
  141.  
  142.   4.0  INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  143.   _______________________________
  144.  
  145.   To install the Cirrus Logic device driver
  146.   from diskette, do the following:
  147.  
  148.   1.  Insert the Cirrus Logic diskette into drive A (or
  149.       any other diskette drive).
  150.       Note: This diskette should have a volume label of "CIRRUS 1".
  151.       To verify, use "Label A:".
  152.   2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  153.   3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following
  154.       command to copy all necessary files to the OS/2
  155.       drive:
  156.  
  157.         A:SETUP A: C:
  158.  
  159.       (where A: is the diskette drive, and C: is the
  160.       drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  161.  
  162.       Then press Enter.
  163.   4.  When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from
  164.       drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart
  165.       your computer.
  166.   5.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  167.   6.  Open the System Setup folder.
  168.   7.  Open the Display Driver Install object.
  169.       When the Display Driver Install window appears,
  170.       select Primary Display Driver and then select OK.
  171.   8.  When the Display Driver Select window appears,
  172.       select "Cirrus Logic 5426, 5428, 5430, 5434 (IBM BBS)"
  173.       to install the BBS video driver.
  174.   9.  When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility
  175.       window appears, the "Install Using Defaults for
  176.       Monitor Type" choice is preselected.  You can
  177.       accept this choice or select "Install Using
  178.       Display Adapter Utility Program" to choose a
  179.       different refresh rate.  Then select OK.
  180.       If you select the "Install Using Display Adapter
  181.       Utility Program" choice, you must have the DOS
  182.       monitor utility that came with your display
  183.       adapter.  Contact the display adapter
  184.       manufacturer's technical support for information
  185.       on how to use the monitor utility under OS/2.
  186.  
  187.       NOTE:  At this point, DSPINSTL determines the
  188.              hardware configuration by creating the
  189.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file.  If the
  190.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file has not been
  191.              created, the adapter will not be
  192.              supported.  This process can take
  193.              several seconds and will black-out the screen.
  194.  
  195.   10. When the Source Directory pop-up window appears,
  196.       insert the Cirrus Logic diskette into drive A.
  197.       Then select Install.
  198.   11. When the installation is complete, do the
  199.       following for all adapters except the 5426.
  200.       For the 5426 step 'e' is skipped.
  201.       a.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  202.       b.  Open the System Setup folder.
  203.       c.  Open the System object.
  204.       d.  When the Settings notebook appears, select
  205.           the Screen tab.  Then go to Screen page 2.
  206.       e.  On Screen page 2, select your display from
  207.           the display list.  If your display does not
  208.           appear in the list, select Default.
  209.       f.  Return to Screen page 1 and select a screen
  210.           resolution and a screen refresh rate.
  211.       g.  Close the Settings notebook.
  212.       h.  Perform a shutdown and restart your computer.
  213.  
  214.   Note that during the installation of this driver,
  215.   DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files are created in the
  216.   OS2\INSTALL directory.  These files identify the OS/2
  217.   system files that were updated and indicate whether
  218.   the installation was successful.  The contents of
  219.   these files might be useful if you need to report an
  220.   installation problem to IBM.

  223.   5.0  INSTALLATION IN A CID ENVIRONMENT
  224.   ______________________________________

  226.   NOTES:
  227.  
  228.   1.  The server must contain a directory named
  229.       CIR_DRVS on the same drive where the OS/2
  230.       diskettes reside.  The CIR_DRVS directory must
  231.       contain all of the files from the Cirrus Logic
  232.       device driver diskette.
  233.   2.  OS/2 must have been successfully installed on the
  234.       client using the CID (Configuration Installation
  235.       Distribution) method.
  236.  
  237.   To install the Cirrus Logic device driver using CID,
  238.   use the following information to modify your LCU
  239.   command file.

  340.        where C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed.

  343.        is a resolution/color depth from the list of
  344.        "Supported Resolutions" that appears earlier
  345.        in this README.

  347.       /u
  348.        means Unattended installation.
  349.  
  350.   NOTES:
  351.  
  352.   1.  Be sure you have the stated video memory
  353.       required, as listed in "Supported Resolutions"
  354.       earlier in this README.  A safe choice is
  355.       640x480x256.  Any of the listed resolutions can
  356.       be selected, but your display might be damaged if
  357.       you select a resolution that your display does
  358.       not support.
  359.   2.  After the Cirrus device driver has been
  360.       successfully installed on the client machine
  361.       using the CID method and the client machine is
  362.       restarted, the resolution will be as specified by
  363.       command line argument.
  364.   3.  After the CID install, refer the end user to
  365.       4.0 INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE step 11.
  366.  
  367.  
  368.   6.0  FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
  369.   ____________________________
  370.  
  371.   o   After Dark** for Windows** images that move from
  372.       left to right do not perform properly at
  373.       640x480x16M resolution.
  374.   o   To avoid a general protection fault while loading
  375.       Ventura Publisher** for Windows, be sure it is in
  376.       one of the 256 color resolutions.
  377.   o   To avoid a trap in Lotus** 1-2-3** for OS/2, do
  378.       not attempt to run the program at 16.7 million
  379.       colors.
  380.   o   WordPerfect** Versions 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows
  381.       produce a general protection fault when the
  382.       "Print Preview" option is selected while using
  383.       800x600x64K or 600x480x16 million color mode.
  384.   o   Users of the software motion video feature of
  385.       MMPM/2* should expect satisfactory results in
  386.       256-color modes.  However, in 64K-color modes,
  387.       OS/2 2.1 users of the feature will experience unusual
  388.       results.  An OS/2 pervasive-fix package is available
  389.       as Fix Package XR06200 for APAR PJ11051. OS/2 versions
  390.       2.11 and above have this fix. The software motion
  391.       video feature is not supported in 16-million
  392.   o   CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2*
  393.       window session.  It must be run in a WIN-OS/2
  394.       full-screen session.
  395.   o   Micrografx** Charisma 2.1 will not run in a
  396.       WIN-OS/2 window session.  It must be run in a
  397.       WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
  398.   o   Distributed Console Access Facility (DCAF) is
  399.       supported in 256-color modes only.
  400.   o   You might have to run the CLMODE utility to
  401.       enable the BIOS to generate high-resolution
  402.       modes.

  405.   7.0  SETTING YOUR DISPLAY TO VGA MODE
  406.   _____________________________________
  407.  
  408.   Use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  409.  
  410.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 Warp,
  411.       and you do not have a usable OS/2 Desktop, use
  412.       the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  413.       However, if you have a usable Desktop, it is
  414.       recommended that you use Selective Install to set
  415.       your display to VGA mode.
  416.  
  417.       1.  Turn on your computer.  If your computer is
  418.           already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
  419.       2.  When a small white box appears in the upper
  420.           left-hand corner of your screen, press
  421.           Alt+F1.
  422.       3.  When the Recovery Choices screen appears,
  423.           press V.
  424.       4.  Run Selective Install to change the Windows drivers.
  425.  
  426.       Your display adapter is restored and can work in
  427.       VGA mode.  If you want to install a new display
  428.       adapter or video device driver, refer to Chapter
  429.       16, "Video Procedures," in the User's Guide to
  430.       OS/2 Warp.
  431.  
  432.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.1,
  433.       2.11, or OS/2 for Windows, and you do not have a
  434.       usable OS/2 Desktop, use the following procedures
  435.       to return to VGA mode.  However, if you have a
  436.       usable Desktop, it is recommended that you use
  437.       the Display Driver Install object to set your
  438.       display to VGA mode.
  439.  
  440.       -   If you installed OS/2 from diskettes, do the
  441.           following:
  442.  
  443.           1.  Start OS/2 using the OS/2 Installation
  444.               Diskette.  When prompted, insert Diskette
  445.               1 and then press Enter. When the install
  446.               option screen appears, press F3 (or Esc) to
  447.               exit to a command prompt.
  448.           2.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the
  449.               \OS2\INSTALL directory.  If it is, go to
  450.               step 3.  If it is not, insert Diskette 8
  451.               into drive A and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with
  452.               the following command:
  453.  
  454.                 C:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  455.  
  456.               (where A: is the drive containing
  457.               Diskette 8, and C: is the drive where
  458.               OS/2 is installed.)
  459.           3.  Type C: and then press Enter.
  460.           4.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press
  461.               Enter.
  462.           5.  Type the following:
  463.  
  464.                 RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:C:
  465.  
  466.               (In /T:C:, C: is the drive where OS/2 is
  467.               installed.  In /S:A:, A: is the diskette
  468.               drive you use to install OS/2.)
  469.  
  470.               Then press Enter.
  471.  
  472.       -   If you installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN,
  473.           do the following:
  474.  
  475.           1.  Start OS/2 using the OS/2 Installation
  476.               Diskette.  When prompted, insert Diskette
  477.               1 and then press Enter. When the install
  478.               option screen appears, press F3 (or Esc) to
  479.               exit to a command prompt.
  480.           2.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the
  481.               \OS2\INSTALL directory.  If it is, go to
  482.               step 3.  If it is not, unpack RSPDSPI.EXE
  483.               with the following command:
  484.  
  485.                 C:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  486.  
  487.               (where C: is the drive where OS/2 is
  488.               installed, and E: is the CD-ROM or LAN

  491.           4.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press
  492.               Enter.
