This package contains an 800 x600 x256 ôvirtual desktopö driver I downloaded from TridentÆs BBS plus the readme file covering all of TridentÆs OS/2 2.0 drivers.
In case youÆre not familiar, this driver using the RAM on your Trident 8900C or 9000 video card to create a 1024 x 1024 desktop. Your monitor then functions as a ôviewport,ö showing you an 800 x 600 area of the larger display. You can pan from one section to another simply by moving the mouse pointer to the edge of the screen.
In my experiments so far, this works very well. Panning is very smooth and fast. It does take some adjusting, however; if youÆre not careful, every time you mouse the mouse you end up looking at another part of the desktop.
There is one shortcoming to this driver: it only works for OS/2 sessions. It doesnÆt support seamless windows, and full-screen Windows sessions use their own driver which donÆt support the virtual desktop.
Before you try to install this, I recommend very strongly that you read the documentation carefully: the Virtual Desktop is covered in a separate appendix. It tells you how to modify your svgadata.pmi file in order to make the driver work. I didnÆt pay much attention at first, so it took me three or four tries to get everything up and running.
