  38.                                 Warp Sales Figures!!

  40.      Last Count IBM has shipped almost 800,000 copies of OS/2 WARP!! 
  41.  
  42.      Warp has also risen to #2 on the software best selller list. 
  43.      #1 is a tax package not made by Microsoft. 
  44.  
  45.                              Canon BubbleJet Drivers
  46.  
  47.         Canon has released a new revision of its bubblejet series 
  48.      drivers for OS/2.  The new drivers support the following printers: 
  49.  
  50.      BJ-100,BJ-200,BJ-200e,BJ-230,BJC-600,BJC-600e,BJC-800,BJC-820, 
  51.      and the BJC-4000. 
  52.  
  53.         These drivers apparently support 24-bit truecolor for the 
  54.      models which support color as well being full 32-bit drivers.  The 
  55.      only feedback I have had is positive so if your thinking about a new 
  56.      printer maybe it should be a Canon.

  58.                                  Warp APAR List
  59.  
  60.         IBM has published a list of APARs (I.E. Known bugs in Warp) 
  61.      I have included this list in the zipfile that this issue of the 
  62.      HHGOS2 came in.  If you click on the bug, a full summary of the 
  63.      problem and any known workarounds or patches will be listed.

  65.                           New Colorado Backup software
  66.  
  67.         HP has released a much improved version of its Colorado 
  68.      backup software for OS/2.  The new version is fully 32-bit, 
  69.      supports HPFS, FAT, long filenames, compressed drives, and a host of 
  70.      small improvements.  The list price is only $69.95.

  72.                                 Watcom C++ 10.0a
  73.  
  74.        Watcom is still running its special to get the full compiler 
  75.      with online documentation for $199.  If you are a student they will 
  76.      drop that price to $99. 
  77.        Warning: When I installed Watcom onto Warp, Watcom tore up my 
  78.      config.sys pretty bad, in fact the desktop would not even appear 
  79.      with the new config.sys.  Using Alt-F1 sequence I restored my 
  80.      config.sys and found that Watcom had put its path additions at 
  81.      the BEGINING of the path statement, which Warp did not like. 
  82.      Once I cut and pasted the statements a bit everything worked 
  83.      great!

  90.                           This Issue's Review Goes to:
  91.                                   IBM CAD / 3X
  92.  
  93.        IBM CAD / 3X is a very handy tool, although it is not just 
  94.      another CAD program.  CAD 3X comes with OS/2 PM, Text, and DOS, 
  95.      versions.  My testing used the PM version and I found CAD 3X to 
  96.      be a very powerfull tool.  CAD 3X's power however does not lie in 
  97.      4000 functions or a manual requiring a CD-ROM, rather its simplicity 
  98.      and ease of use is perhaps its most powerfull feature. 
  99.        In the past I mainly used AutoCAD 10. With AutoCAD I tend to 
  100.      forget commands I haven't used recently since I use it rarely. 
  101.      In the case of CAD / 3X the commands well organized, almost as 
  102.      though the interface was so well thought out that using it was 
  103.      second nature. 
  104.        I am an EE by trade and thus I do not use CAD programs 
  105.      all that much. Perhaps if I needed more raw power and were willing 
  106.      to sacrifice the time to master a program such as AutoCAD, CAD / 3X 
  107.      wouldn't be quite so special. 
  108.         However CAD / 3X provides the best of both worlds.  Enough 
  109.      power to do what I need, with a small enough learning curve to give 
  110.      me time to do it.

  118.      finest OS/2 internet resources and how to access them. 
  119.      A list of Web sites, ftp sites, newsgroups and other resources 
  120.      which have usefull OS/2 information are listed in the 
  121.      OS/2 Internet Resource List.

  123.                                  WebExplorer 1.0
  124.  
  125.         IBM has released Ver. 1.0 of the OS/2 WebExplorer.  For those 
  126.      unfamilar, Web Exp. is a World Wide Web Explorer much like NetScape 
  127.      or Mosiac.  The Web Exp. though is much more powerfull given its 
  128.      multi-threaded construction and its SOM extensions, all possible 
  129.      only with OS/2. 
  130.         The Web explorer can be ftped from ftp.ibm.net.  The 
  131.      file is named web.zip.  The WebExplorer will work under either 
  132.      IAK (Internet Access Kit) provided in the Warp Bonus Pak or 
  133.      OS/2 TCPIP 2.0 w/ the latest CSDs applied.

  177.           Here are a couple hints to making the most of Warp: 
  178.  
  179.        1)  When booting the computer a the letters "OS/2" will appear 
  180.          at the top of the screen right after your main bios screen. 
  181.          Hit Alt-F1 here and you will get a menu of ways to recover 
  182.          a damaged system. 
  183.        2)  Hitting Ctrl-Esc-Esc will usually clear a hung message 
  184.          queue in Warp. 
  185.        3)  Do Not delete the "Nowhere" subdirectories on your main 
  186.          C drive.  Warp links things through them.
