Everything you always wanted to know about
CAOS/2: Central Alberta OS/2 Users Group
that we finally got around to telling you.
There are two files here, both on-line versions of the printed CAOS/2 brochure.
CAOS.INF is an OS/2 on-line information file. Use VIEW to read it.
CAOS.HLP is a *Windows* Help version of the CAOS/2 brochure. Use File
Manager to access it (by double-clicking its icon). Poor graphics
in this file at >VGA resolution is a limitation of the Help
Compiler (can you believe you have to re-compile for different
resolutions? - I just did VGA).
Each represents about 8 hours of work, from nothing (not even knowing how
to use the compilers) to finished product.
Are you (or know someone who is) pondering OS/2? Either of these files is
a pretty complete description of local services and the support you can
expect from our User Group. Both were developed on, and run in, OS/2 2.1
and its WinOS2 emulation.
Personally I prefer the INF format, since I can edit, compile, and view
it from a single editor session (vi, in my case). Windows help almost
demands the use of Word for Windows (I tried the DOS and OS/2 versions
and no go) and extra hassle to save the file in RTF format and run the
compiler (which just happens to be a family-mode app and runs as a
native OS/2 app, but not in a WinOS2 session). Unless, of course, you
want to become a Rich Text Format expert, but then again you could just go
and learn COBOL and make some real money. :)
We hope you enjoy reading either or both of these files, and they may
perhaps provide you with the inspiration to create one for your own user
group. If you're ever up our way, make sure to give us a call if you
need an OS/2 "fix" or even just a strong coffee.
