  1. THIS UPDATE IS FOR QUICKEN 4 FOR WINDOWS CD-ROM, RELEASE 6 OR LOWER.

  4. If you are NOT running Quicken 4 for Windows CD-ROM, Release 6 or lower,
  5. this update will have no effect on your software.
  6.  
  7. TO CHECK THE RELEASE NUMBER OF YOUR VERSION OF QUICKEN:
  8. =======================================================
  9.  
  10. 1.    Start Quicken for Windows
  11. 2.     With Quicken open, hold down the Shift key while choosing 
  12.     "About Quicken" from the Help Menu.
  13. 3.    A window appears. The first line will say:
  14.     "Quicken v for Windows Rn" or "Quicken 4 for Windows CD-ROM MM Rr"
  15.         where "v" is the "Version Number" of your Quicken for Windows and      
  16.     where "r" is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 and is the "Release Number".

  18. If you are using Quicken 4 for Windows CD-ROM and have Release 6 or lower,
  19. follow the instructions below to run the update.  If you already have Release
  20. 7, running the update will not change your software in any way.
  21.  
  22. If you are using Versions 1.0, 1.01, 2.0, or 3.0 of Quicken for Windows we
  23. encourage you to look in the General Information Library to find out about the
  24. added benefits of using Quicken 4 for Windows CD-ROM.

  26. UPDATING QUICKEN 4 FOR WINDOWS CD-ROM
  27. =====================================
  28.  
  29. 1.    Create a directory on your hard drive called UPDATE.
  30. 2.    Download the Quicken Update into this directory.
  31.     The file name is: QWCD4R7A.ZIP
  32. 3.    Exit from Windows into DOS. 
  33.     DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE UPDATE FROM THE DOS PROMPT WHILE IN 
  34.     WINDOWS.  The update will not install correctly, and other 
  35.     problems may develop.
  36. 4.    Change to the UPDATE directory and unzip QWCD4R7A.ZIP.
  37.     The ZIP file was created with Version 2.04g of PKZIP and you must 
  38.     have this version of PKUNZIP in order to unzip the Quicken Update. 
  39.     If you do not have PKUNZIP, it is available for download from:
  40.     Forum       -     IBMNEW
  41.     Library     -     Library Tools
  42.     File        -     PK204G.EXE
  43.     The DOS commands for unzipping the Quicken Update are:
  44.     1. CD \UPDATE 
  45.     2. PKUNZIP QWCD4R7A.ZIP
  46. 5.    To run the update, change to the UPDATE directory, and then type 
  47.     QWCD4R7A followed by the path of your Quicken 4 for Windows CD-ROM 
  48.     directory. Then press Enter. 
  49.     Example:  C:>\UPDATE\QWCD4R7A C:\QUICKENW

  51. CHECKING THE UPDATE
  52. ===================
  53.  
  54. Once the update is complete, you will now have Release 7 of Quicken 4 for
  55. Windows CD-ROM. This can be verified by using the steps described above in "To
  56. Check the Release Number..."  As long as "About Quicken" displays Release 7,
  57. Quicken has been updated correctly.

  59. REMOVING THE UPDATE FILES
  60. =========================
  61.  
  62. Once you have confirmed that the update was successful by checking the release
  63. number,  you can safely remove the files that were used in the update process.
  64. All of these files will be located in the UPDATE directory where you completed
  65. the download and the unzip process.  The files that can be deleted are:
  66.  
  67.     QWCD4R7A.ZIP
  68.     QWCD4R7A.BAT
  69.     QWCD4R7A.RTP
  70.      README.TXT 
  71.     PATCH.EXE
