OS/2 2.11 Update diskette for Beta II of
C Set ++ (VisualAge C++) V3.0 for OS/2
This update provides the SOM fixes that enable Beta II to fully support
OS/2 2.11. It assumes that you have not installed your copy of Beta II.
If you have done so, and wish to apply the update, please refer to the
Alternative Installation section. DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE ON
OS/2 WARP.
The update involves replacing 3 DLLs (SOM.DLL, SOMIR.DLL, and SOMTC.DLL)
that were originally shipped on the Beta II CD-ROM.
INSTALLING THE UPDATE
Follow these steps to correctly install Beta II and the update on a
OS/2 2.11 machine.
1. Complete the installation instructions provided with the Beta II
CD-ROM up to the point where you are asked to shut-down and reboot
your machine.
2. Exit the install program.
3. Insert the update diskette into drive A.
3. Run the UPDATEB2.EXE file provided on the diskette, by typing
a:\updateb2. You will be asked for the drive and directory where the beta
was just installed.
4. After the update install has finished running, shut down and reboot
your machine. Phase 2 of the Beta II install will run after you reboot.
ALTERNATIVE INSTALLATION
If you have already installed Beta II on your OS/2 2.11 machine, it is still
possible to install the update. However, be aware that this method is not
recommended.
1. Create a new directory on your hard disk e.g. c:\vab2fix
2. Copy the 3 DLLs supplied with this fix to the directory created in step 1
3. Modify your CONFIG.SYS so that the directory created in step 1 comes
before the Beta II DLL directory in your LIBPATH environment variable
(e.g. if you installed Beta II to the CPPBETA directory of your D drive,
the DLL directory would be D:\CPPBETA\DLL)
4. Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect
If you wish to deinstall Beta II after using this alternative install method,
-----
you will need to do the following:
1) Modify your CONFIG.SYS so that the directory created in the above steps
is no longer in the LIBPATH environment variable.
2) Reboot your machine.
3) Erase the 3 DLLs and delete the directory you created.
4) Follow the deinstall procedure documented in the Beta II readme.
