  13.  PSF/2  installations on new PS/2's, such as the 9585-OMF, 9585-OXA, 9577-ONA,  
  14.  and 8590-OLF may experience problems with the S/370  Channel  Emulator/A  re-  
  15.  sulting  in  printer  performance problems and/or system hang conditions with  
  16.  the mouse.  The problems occur when the S/370 Channel Emulator/A is installed  
  17.  in slot 8 for Models 9585-OMF and -OXA, slot 5 for Model 77 and  slot  4  for  
  18.  Model  90s.  This problem can cause the system to hang if two (2) S/370 Print  
  19.  Adapters are installed in any slots on these systems.

  21.  The problem has been traced to a conflict between  the  PS/2  mouse  and  the  
  22.  S/370 Print Adapter sharing hardware Interrupt 12.                             
  23.                                                                                 
  24.  PSF/2  Development  recommends that all new system configurations and any ex-  
  25.  isting systems that are having system stability problems move the S/370 Chan-  
  26.  nel Emulator/A  from slot 8 to any other slot and  that  the  S/370  hardware  
  27.  interrupt level be set 10 (decimal).                                           
  28.                                                                                 
  29.  With  two  (2)  S/370 Print Adapters installed, the interrupt levels for both  
  30.  adapters must be set to level 10.   These interrupt level  changes  are  made  
  31.  with the PS/2 Reference Disk Configuration.                                    
  32.                                                                                 
  33.  When making these changes to the S/370 hardware settings, also check that the  
  34.  S/370  "Control  Interface Location" and the S/370 "I/O Buffer Location" con-  
  35.  figure without conflict (*), and that the I/O buffer is set  to  the  highest  
  36.  value allowed (32Kb or 64Kb).  If the system has a Token Ring card check that  
  37.  the Token-Ring Adapter Shared RAM Size is set to 16KB.  Sometimes this is re-  
  38.  set during configuration.  If another slot is NOT available, the system cards  
  39.  should be moved such that the S/370 card is NOT in slot 8.

  41.  Long  term,  work is in progress to resolve the interrupt hardware level con-  
  42.  flict between the S/370 Print Adapter and the PS/2 mouse.
