  5. OS/2 Warp 4.0 for CD will require a modified 
  6. Installation Diskette, a modified Diskette 1, 
  7. and a modified Diskette 2.

  10. The Installation Diskette, Diskette 1, and Diskette2 
  11. provided with OS/2 Warp 4.0 cannot read the partition
  12. table of your Thinkpad Hard Disk Drive. This impacts:
  13.

  20. Problem:
  21. When attempting to partition the Thinkpad 5.1GB Hard Disk Drive,
  22. the partition information will be displayed incorrectly. For
  23. example, the partition information displayed may indicate that
  24. a 35MB DOS partition has been created, or another larger and
  25. unformatted/non-DOS partition is available as freespace. You
  26. are not able to delete and partition the drive to its capacity.

  29. Solution for OS/2 Warp 4.0 on CD:
  30. 1) Ensure that your Thinkpad 380/385 or 765/760 system has
  31.    the most recent BIOS. The system BIOS does not directly
  32.    affect the drive's partition table, but will ensure that
  33.    your system is able to utilize the new technology of the
  34.    drive.

  37.    a) Important Notice for Thinkpad 765/760 systems:
  38.  
  39.       Updates to System BIOS will be made available through the
  40.       IBM PC Company File Repository at (919) 517-0001. To access
  41.       the files from the Web: use http://www.pc.ibm.com. A direct
  42.       link to the files is available by using 
  43.       http://www.us.pc.ibm.com/files.html.
  44.  
  45.       Prior to installing your 5.1GB HDD option, you must install
  46.       the System Program Service (BIOS) Diskette included with the
  47.       5.1GB HDD. The required BIOS version must be dated 8/15/97 or later. 
  48.       More recent versions will be added to the IBM PC Company File
  49.       Repository as they are made available.
  50.  
  51.       Check the level of the System BIOS currently used by your
  52.       Thinkpad 760 or 765:
  53.       1. Turn off the computer, and remove any diskette from 
  54.          the diskette drive.
  55.       2. Press and hold F1, then turn on the computer. Hold F1 
  56.          until the Easy-Setup menu appears. The BIOS
  57.          is shown on the Easy Setup main screen.
  58.  
  59.       If the BIOS date is August 15, 1997 (8/15/97) or later, 
  60.       you DO NOT need to install the update to your BIOS.

  62.       To install the System Program BIOS:
  63.       * You need an AC Adapter and a charged battery pack.
  64.       * If your computer is attached to a docking station or
  65.         port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it
  66.         before before updating the system BIOS.
  67.       * From the enclosed diskettes with your 5.1GB HDD, select the one  
  68.         matching your Thinkpad model. The BIOS will not install from
  69.         the wrong diskette. You will get an error message.

  71.        1. Firmly connect the AC Adapter to the computer.
  72.        2. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the 
  73.           diskette drive and turn on the computer.
  74.        3. On the menu which appears, choose the first option, "Read this  
  75.           first." After you read the instructions,
  76.           go back and choose the second option, "Update system program."

  78.        Attention:  Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update 
  79.        has been completed.  IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE 
  80.        UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MIGHT HAVE TO BE 
  81.        REPLACED.
