  1. This is beta release 1.3 of GNU Oleo.  
  2.  
  3. Oleo is a spreadsheet program (better for you than the more expensive
  4. spreadsheet).  It supports X windows and character-based terminals,
  5. and can generate embedded Postscript renditions of spreadsheets.
  6. Keybindings should be familiar to Emacs users and are configurable by
  7. users.
  8.  
  9. I believe all reported bugs have been fixed; if you spot a bug from a
  10. previous release, please re-report that bug.
  11.  
  12. This release introduces many new features.  
  13.  
  14. - On line help.  ^H is the help prefix.  ^H ^W creates a wallchart of
  15.   keybindings.
  16.  
  17. - Oleo speaks gnuplot.  The prefix M-g leads to a menu of commands for
  18.   drawing graphs.
  19.  
  20. - Tax forms.  The first spreadsheet contributed by a volunteer: 1992
  21.   federal and State of Connecticut tax forms.  Load the file `irs-1992.oleo'.
  22.  
  23. - The keybindings are more Emacs-like.

  25. The file NEWS describes these changes in more detail.

  27. The file USING is the only manual-type documentation there is at this
  28. time.  It is somewhat out of date.  The on-line documentation is more
  29. up to date.

  31. Future plans include:
  32.   - More options for postscript printing than just EPS.
  33.  
  34.   - Incrementally improving the Oleo command set and display interface.
  35.  
  36.   - Extending the data model to support
  37.     - Multiple spreadsheet files (like multiple buffers in Emacs).
  38.     - Multiple named variables and arrays within a single file
  39.       (or shared by multiple files).
  40.     - Symbolic addressing (rather than only row/column addressing).
  41.  
  42.   - A volunteer has offered to work on a manual for Oleo.
