  9.     If you are installing this version of the driver as a replacement for an
  10.     older version of the driver, you must follow the instructions in
  11.     Section 1 ("Upgrading the Driver") before installing the new version.
  12.     If this is a new installation, follow the instructions in Section 2
  13.     ("Installing the Driver").

  16.                       1. UPGRADING THE DRIVER
  17.                       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  18.  
  19.     Before installing the new driver, you must first remove the old driver
  20.     from your system, if you do not, the driver will not be successfully
  21.     installed. You should follow the instructions for the release of OS/2
  22.     that you are running.
  23.  
  24.     Deleting the old driver from OS/2 Version 1.3x
  25.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  26.  
  27.     The following instructions can be followed to delete any printer driver
  28.     from your OS/2 system that is no longer required
  29.  
  30.     A) Delete Printer Names
  31.     -----------------------
  32.     1.  From the Presentation Manager Desktop, select the Print
  33.         Manager.  (printer icon)
  34.     2.  Choose "Setup".
  35.     3.  Choose "Printers".
  36.  
  37.         For each Canon BJ Printer name associated with the old version
  38.         of the printer driver:
  39.  
  40.         Highlight the printer name by clicking on it;
  41.             Click the "Delete" button to remove the name;
  42.             Click "Yes" to confirm the operation;
  43.             Click "OK" to confirm completion.
  44.  
  45.     4.  You will be returned to the Print Manager.
  46.  
  47.     B) Delete associated printer queues
  48.     -----------------------------------
  49.     1.  Choose "Setup" at the Print Manager.
  50.     2.  Choose "Queues".
  51.     3.  For each printer deleted in the previous step, delete its associated
  52.         queue(s):
  53.  
  54.         Highlight the printer queue by clicking on it;
  55.             Click the "Delete" button to remove the queue;
  56.             Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion;
  57.             Click "OK" to confirm completion.
  58.  
  59.     4.  You will be returned the Print Manager.
  60.     5.  Minimize the Print Manager.
  61.  
  62.     C) Delete printer Drivers from "Control Panel"
  63.     ----------------------------------------------
  64.     If any OS/2 applications have accessed the Canon printer driver during your
  65.     current OS/2 session, you must Reboot your machine before performing the
  66.     next step. If you do not do this, Control Panel will be unable to delete
  67.     the files because they will still be "open".
  68.  
  69.     1.  From the Presentation Manager Desktop, change to the
  70.         Group - Utilities.
  71.     2.  Select the Control Panel.
  72.     3.  Select the "Installation" menu.
  73.     4.  Select "Delete printer drivers..."
  74.     5.  For each printer name deleted previously, delete its associated
  75.         printer driver as follows:
  76.  
  77.             Highlight the printer driver by clicking on it;
  78.             Click on the "Delete" button to remove the driver;
  79.             Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion;
  80.             Click "OK" to confirm completion of the operation.
  81.  
  82.         At this point, one of the following will happen:
  83.  
  84.         5a)  If the focus is returned to the Control Panel and there
  85.          are no more printer drivers to be deleted, exit the Control 
  86.          Panel and proceed to section 3, "Installing the Driver".
  87.  
  88.         5b)  If the focus is returned to the Control Panel and there
  89.              are more printer drivers to be deleted, repeat steps 3,
  90.              4, and 5 for each printer driver to be deleted.
  91.  
  92.         5c)  If a message appears:
  93.  
  94.      "The device driver has been deleted. Cannot delete the
  95.      associated printer driver file because you have installed
  96.      other printer device drivers from it.":
  97.  
  98.      You have not deleted all the printers associated with this
  99.      device driver.  To rectify this:
  100.  
  101.          Click on "Cancel";
  102.          Repeat steps 3, 4, and 5 for each driver to be deleted.
  103.  
  104.      It there are no other printer drivers to be deleted, exit the
  105.          Control Panel, and proceed to section 3, "Installing the Driver".
  106.  
  107.     5d)  If a warning message appears:
  108.  
  109.      "Cannot delete the printer device driver because it is
  110.      associated with one or more printers.    Remove the printer
  111.      associations, then retry.":
  112.  
  113.      You have not deleted all the printer names associated with this
  114.      device driver.  To rectify this exit from Control Panel and repeat
  115.      the above steps A and B to delete the remaining printer names.
  116.          
  117.     5e)  If a warning message appears:
  118.  
  119.      "Cannot delete the printer driver because a program may be using
  120.      the file, the file may be read-only or the disk may be
  121.      write-protected":
  122.  
  123.      The driver file is still in use by the operating system.  To
  124.      rectify this exit from Control Panel and reboot OS/2 to unload
  125.      the driver.  Refer to your OS/2 user documentation for details
  126.      on how to "Shutdown" the OS/2 operating system and avoid loss
  127.      of data.

  131.     Deleting the old driver from OS/2 Version 2.0
  132.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  133.  
  134.     If any OS/2 applications have accessed the Canon printer driver during your
  135.     current OS/2 session, you must Reboot your machine before performing the
  136.     next step. If you do not do this, you will be unable to delete the files
  137.     because they will still be "open".

  139.     Deleting an obsolete Canon BJ Printer Driver Object
  140.     ---------------------------------------------------
  141.     1.  Find the Icon on your OS/2 desktop that refers to your printer
  142.         driver (in OS/2 2.0 terms, this is the "Printer Object").
  143.     2.  Select (highlight) the icon by clicking on it with the left mouse button.
  144.     2.  Display the pop-up menu for the printer object by clicking on
  145.         the object with the right mouse button.  For details of how to do
  146.         this with your keyboard, please refer to your OS/2 documentation.
  147.     3.  Select the arrow to the right of "Open"; then select "Settings".
  148.     4.  Select "Printer driver".
  149.     5.  If the Canon BJ-Series printer driver is selected in one or both fields
  150.         in the printer driver settings window, select a different driver
  151.         as the default by clicking on the icon for that driver.
  152.     6.  Display the pop-up menu for the Canon BJ-Series driver that you want to
  153.         delete by clicking on the icon with the right mouse button.
  154.     7.  Select "Delete".
  155.     8.  If this driver is used in any other printer objects, a window appears
  156.         showing those printer objects.  Repeat step 6-7 for each printer object
  157.         displayed to delete them.
  158.  
  159.         If you receive the message:
  160.  
  161.             "Do you want to delete the files associated with this printer
  162.             driver from your fixed disk"
  163.  
  164.         you will know that all references to the driver have been deleted.
  165.         Click on "Yes" to delete the driver files.
  166.

  197.     If you have received this driver electronically, or the files have
  198.     been copied using DOS instead of OS/2, you must first reconstruct
  199.     the driver release disk, otherwise the installation will fail.
  200.

  202.     Constructing a Driver Release Disk
  203.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  204.     The Printer Installer for OS/2 requires special extended attributes
  205.     (EA's) for the driver files which will only be preserved if files are
  206.     copied under OS/2.  These EAs will be lost if the driver has been
  207.     transferred electronically or using the DOS copy command.
  208.     Additional files have been supplied with this driver to allow the
  209.     re-construction of these attributes.
  210.  
  211.     To re-build the EAs, you must do the following:
  212.     1. Under DOS or OS/2, copy the driver files to a newly formatted floppy
  213.        diskette.
  214.     2. If you are not already running OS/2, Boot OS/2 on your workstation.
  215.     3. Switch to an OS/2 Full Screen or Windowed command prompt.
  216.     4. Change drive to the floppy diskette containing the driver files
  217.        (A: or B:).
  218.     5. Run the OS/2 batch file RESETEA.CMD by typing:
  219.  
  220.         RESETEA
  221.  
  222.        at the OS/2 command prompt
  223.     6. The RESETEA batch file will run the OS/2 command EAUTIL to restore
  224.        the Extended Attributes from .EA files provided on your release disk.
  225.        If the command fails, make sure that EAUTIL is present in your OS/2
  226.        PATH. (Your OS/2 user documentation will tell you how to do this).
  227.

  229.     Installing the driver
  230.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  231.     The installation procedure differs depending on the version of OS/2
  232.     that you are running. Please follow the correct procedure given
  233.     below for your version of OS/2. If you do not follow these procedures,
  234.     the driver may not be correctly installed.
  235.  
  236.     If you already have old printer drivers installed on your system, you
  237.     may need to delete these before installing the Canon BJ-Series driver.
  238.  
  239.     Before installing your Canon BJ-Series driver under OS/2, you must check
  240.     that your OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file contains the following setting, which
  241.     will allow the driver to be correctly installed:
  242.  
  243.     From your root directory ("cd \"), check that the line
  244.  
  245.         IOPL=YES
  246.  
  247.     appears in the CONFIG.SYS file. If it does not, or if the line appears
  248.     as:
  249.         IOPL=NO
  250.  
  251.     use an editor (such as the OS/2 System Editor) to add it anywhere in
  252.     the file, or to correct the existing line.

  255.     Using the Printer Installer under OS/2 1.3x
  256.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  257.  
  258.     1.  Start the Printer Installer by opening the Print Manager icon from
  259.         the Presentation Manager Desktop.
  260.     2.  Select the "Setup" menu.
  261.     3.  Select "Printer install...".  The "Printer Install" dialog will
  262.         be displayed.
  263.     4.  Click on the "New" button.  You will be prompted for the "New Printer
  264.         Driver Location".  Enter the path where the driver files are located
  265.         and select "OK".  The "New Printer Driver Model" dialog box will be
  266.         displayed.
  267.     5.  Select the required printer model and click on "OK" to confirm the
  268.         selection.  The "Printer Properties" dialog will be displayed for the
  269.         Canon BJ-Series printer driver.  Select the options that you require
  270.         and click on "OK" to save them.

  272.     For more help on the Printer Installer, select the Help button or in the
  273.     "Help Index", select the Printer Installer.

  276.     Using the Printer Installer under OS/2 2.0
  277.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  279.     1.  Open the "OS/2 System" icon from the "Workplace Shell" to open
  280.         the "OS/2 System - Icon View" window.
  281.     2.  Open the "Drives" icon to display a window of disk drive icons.
  282.     3.  Place your device driver diskette in drive A or B and open the
  283.         corresponding drive icon.
  284.     4.  An icon for the Canon BJ-Series printer driver CANONBJ.DRV will
  285.         be displayed in the "Drive x - Icon View" window.  Open this
  286.         icon to start the driver installation process.
  287.     5.  The "CANONBJ.DRV - Icon View" window will be displayed.  Drag the
  288.         icon corresponding to the printer model you wish to install to
  289.         your OS/2 2.0 Desktop.
  290.     6.  Repeat step 5 for each printer model you wish to install.
  291.     7.  When all disk activity has ceased, close all the windows opened
  292.         so far.  The icon "CANONBJ.Canon BJxxx" should now be
  293.         present on your desktop.

  295.     Notes
  296.     -----
  297.     In the above examples, Drive x refers to Drive A or Drive B and
  298.     Canon BJxxx refers to any of the Canon BJ-Series Models supported by
  299.     the driver.
  300.  
  301.     You can edit the icon name for your Canon BJ-Series driver by using the
  302.     options in "Settings".
  303.

  306.     scroll to the P tab, and scroll to the Printing topics.  Select
  307.     "Installing a printer or a plotter".  Or, click on the
  308.     "Search Topics..." button and search for "installing printer drivers".
