  1. Printer driver release 1.010 for OS/2 3.0 (Warp) and Warp 4.0

  4. This printer driver has been developed by EPSON Deutschland GmbH. This
  5. particular version 1.010 supports the following printer models:

  33. Printer drivers with the extension (NLSP) are drivers which support particular
  34. printer models with a special character EPROM. These printer models and drivers
  35. are especially designed for use in the Eastern European market. The NLSP 
  36. function only becomes apparent, however, when you select a printer resolution 
  37. with built-in fonts. If you install an NLSP printer driver but do not have an
  38. equivalent printer model, your printouts may contain errors when you select one
  39. of the printer's built-in fonts.
  40.  
  41. Hardware requirements:
  42. **********************
  43. - Processor:        min. 486/33 MHz; Pentium recommended
  44. - Main memory:      min. 8 MB of RAM; min. 32 MB of Ram recommended (the more 
  45.                     the better)
  46. - Hard disk space:
  47.     - Installation: 6,8 MB of available hard disk space
  48.     - Workstation:  Color printing at 720 dpi, DIN A4: approx. 80-100 MB of
  49.                     available hard disk space (with 32 MB RAM)
  50.  
  51. The required amount of hard disk space varies according to the amount of main 
  52. memory installed (the more main memory, the smaller the swap file).
  53.  
  54. Special features of the printer driver:
  55. ***************************************
  56. - TrueColor RGB input alterable to 256 color pallet mode 
  57.   (Attention: In 256 color pallet mode some colors may not match the
  58.   colors of the original, since in this mode the system pallet of OS/2 is used.
  59.   However, the printout is completed faster due to less data).
  60. - In-built printer fonts and code pages supported
  61.   (not supported for COLOR 400, 600, 800, 1520, 3000, Photo)
  62. - Halftoning with error diffusion (random dot pattern)
  63. - The EPSON Color Management system enables top-quality printouts in both b/w 
  64.   and color. The output in TrueColor mode is an almost exact match of the colors
  65.   in the original.
  66. - EPSON gamma curves for each printer
  67. - MicroWeave technology for Stylus printers
  68. - User settings can be saved under unique names
  69. - The driver currently supports two languages (German/English)
  70. - Metafile spooling (depending on the application, the system becomes available
  71.   significantly faster and the printout is also completed faster)

  73. Notes on installation:
  74. **********************
  75. Please observe the following when installing the printer driver:
  76.

  80. - Run OS/2.
  81. - Make sure that all printer queues are empty.
  82. - Select the Icon DRIVES.
  83. - Double-click on your CD-ROM drive.
  84. - Double-click on the subdirectory OS2DRV.
  85. - Double-click on the file EPSONPRT.DR_.
  86. - Choose your printer with the right mouse button and keeping the right mouse 
  87.   button pressed, drag the printer icon onto your desktop.
  88. - Choose the required language.
  89. - Attention!!!!: Do not close any windows during the installation procedure
  90.   and do not install more than one driver at the same time!!!! To make sure,
  91.   nothing interferes with the installation, wait until the entire installation
  92.   is complete. Please wait until the printer icon has been generated. 
  93.   If you do not observe this warning, the driver may not be installed properly.
  94.   If an error message occurs during the installation procedure, delete the 
  95.   driver and reinstall it.
  96. - To set the printer driver to be your default printer, click the right mouse
  97.   button on the Printer icon, choose Set default from the menu and select the
  98.   appropriate printer driver.
  99. - Select the desired interface by clicking the right mouse button on your 
  100.   printer model, choosing Settings from the menu and clicking the Output button.
  101. - The installation is now complete.
  102.

  104. To modify the printer driver settings, click the right mouse button on the
  105. Printer icon, choose Settings from the menu and then Printer driver. OS/2 makes
  106. a distinction between printer settings and job settings. The job settings 
  107. usually apply to all programs. To modify the printer settings double-click the 
  108. icon of your default printer driver. You can now modify the printer properties.
  109. The modified settings become valid as soon as you exit the printer driver by 
  110. clicking OK.
  111.  
  112. To modify the job settings, click the Job properties button. You can now modify
  113. the job settings and save them under a desired name. As long as no program is
  114. running at the time, these settings are valid for all programs. However, if a
  115. program is running when you make your modifications, the settings will apply
  116. just to this single program and will be deleted when you exit the program.

  118. Note: If you are using a Pentium computer, you should change the priority for 
  119. your print jobs to 40 - 55 before submitting your first print job. This is done
  120. via the Spooler icon to be found under System/Setup. A speed of 40 - 55 is 
  121. perfectly sufficient for the hardware printing speed.

  124. Note: The first printout: If you are using TrueColor RGB input, it
  125. follows that the more main memory you have available the quicker the printout
  126. will begin. For example, if you print an A4 page consisting of graphics, the
  127. main memory available will be shared between OS/2, the program, the graphics
  128. file you are printing and the printer driver. An A4 graphics page in TrueColor
  129. and printed at 720 dpi can be as big as 134 MB in size before being compressed
  130. (image width x image height x horizontal print resolution x vertical print
  131. resolution x TrueColor). If you have less than 48 MB of RAM, an extensive
  132. swap file is created and your system is kept busy over a longer period of time.
  133. If you do a lot of graphics work, it is advisable, therefore, to install
  134. additional RAM in your computer (48 MB or 64 MB (recommended)).

  138. Known problems
  139. **************
  140. - Stylus COLOR: It is better to avoid using a combination of 360/720 dpi (no 
  141.                 printer    fonts), MicroWeave and Bidi, as these settings can 
  142.                 result in faulty printouts.
  143. - IBM Works and DeScribe: The fonts are not provided with these programs as the
  144.         printer fonts are not properly supported.
  145. - Warp 4.0 bug: Green and blue are exchanged. Solution: Click the WARP 4 button
  146.                 in the driver (this is the default setting when the driver is 
  147.                 installed under Warp 4). Meanwhile, in other Warp 4 versions 
  148.         this bug is fixed, if so please deselect the flag.
  149. - DRAFT font:   At present, the printer's built-in font is not properly 
  150.                 supported.
  151. - Lotus Freelance Graphics 2.1: At the time being you cannot print with this 
  152.                 application. Release Freelance Graphics 96 works fine.
  153. - General:    Avoid to simultaneously create on two printers (via two 
  154.         interfaces) using the EPSON driver two color or two monochrome
  155.         printouts at the same time.
  156. - General:    If you installed the driver completely NEW or as an UPDATE, 
  157.         select once for each installed printer model from this driver 
  158.         the printer properties and the print job properties,
  159.         make your settings and exit the driver clicking "OK".

  162. Special note
  163. ************
  164. - Slow output under StarOffice: The programs of StarOffice presently do not 
  165.   support metafile spooling. You can see this from the printer icon which is
  166.   displayed gray (disabled) until the file has been transferred completely to
  167.   the driver. 
  168.   Until the printer icon is displayed in black (enabled) again, the
  169.   print data have not been transferred to the driver and the driver cannot 
  170.   start the printout.

  172. This printer driver has been extensively tested with the kind support of the
  173. TEAM OS/2. Should you, however, find any errors, we would be glad to hear from
  174. you with the following information:

  177. - Exact program information with details of program version and settings used
  178. - Version number of printer driver
  179. - Printer driver settings (all)
  180. - If a general protection fault error occurs, we require a hard copy of the
  181.   register settings (warning: a hard copy is also treated as graphics; 
  182.   the currently activated printer job properties are used)
