  127. This driver is for use with IBM OS/2 versions 2.1 and higher ONLY.  It operates
  128. the printers in Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet series III printer command
  129. language (PCL 5) mode and supports the multiple graphic resolutions, multiple
  130. paper sources, font cards, download fonts available and download overlays.
  131.  
  132. To use this printer driver with an IBM 4029 series printer, you must have a
  133. PCL5 Emulation Option installed.
  134.  
  135. NOTE:   To determine your OS/2 level, type SYSLEVEL at the
  136.         command prompt in an OS/2 window or Full Screen.
  137.  
  138.         See Section V, UPDATING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER IN A
  139.         LAN ENVIRONMENT at the bottom of this file for additional
  140.         information concerning installation in a local area
  141.         network environment.

  143. II. PREPARING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER
  144.     -----------------------------------
  145.  
  146. When you executed the self-extracting file, OS32P5E.EXE, the following 4 files
  147. were created:
  148.  
  149.            README.1ST   This file.
  150.  
  151.            IBMPCL5.DR_  The Presentation Manager printer driver that supports
  152.                         PM and non-PM applications.
  153.  
  154.            IBMPCL5.EA_  On-line information on setup and use of the IBMPCL5
  155.                         driver.

  157.            AVEXTRA.TXT
  158.  
  159. Copy the files listed above to a 1.44 MB (or larger) diskette for ease of
  160. installation as well as to provide an automatic backup.  Do not change
  161. the file names when copying them to the diskette.  If you receive more
  162. than one device driver package, the files provided with each package should
  163. be copied onto a separate diskette to avoid intermixing code or documentation
  164. files from different device driver packages.

  168. III.   INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.1+
  169.        ------------------------------------------------------------
  170.  
  171.     The following steps must be followed to correctly install the IBMPCL5
  172.     device driver on OS/2 Version 2.1 and higher:
  173.  
  174.  
  175.     1.  If the IBMPCL5 device driver is already installed on your system, you
  176.         must do the following two actions prior to installing the new version
  177.         of the IBMPCL5 printer driver:
  178.  
  179.           * Print or cancel all jobs in all queues that use the IBMPCL5 device
  180.             driver.
  181.  
  182.           * Shutdown your system by pointing to an open area on the desktop and
  183.             clicking mouse button 2.  From the pop-up menu that will appear,
  184.             select SHUTDOWN.  When a message appears that says that the
  185.             system has been shutdown, restart your system (press and hold CTRL
  186.             and ALT and press DELETE).
  187.

  189.     2.  If you are installing the printer driver for use with an existing
  190.         printer object, follow the instructions outlined in section III.A
  191.         below.
  192.  
  193.     3.  If you want to create a new printer object when you install this
  194.         printer driver, follow the instructions in section III.B below.
  195.  
  196. III.A.   INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER ON AN EXISTING PRINTER OBJECT
  197.          ------------------------------------------------------------------
  198.  
  199.     1.  To install this new device driver on the existing printer object,
  200.         point to the object and click mouse button 2.  This will open the
  201.         pop-up menu.
  202.  
  203.         Installing the 32-bit driver over an older 16-bit driver should work
  204.         the same as installing a newer version of the 16-bit driver.
  205.         Since the drivers share the same name they also share the same driver
  206.         data and ini data.
  207.  
  208.     2.  Select the arrow to the right of OPEN; then select SETTINGS for OS/2
  209.         2.X, for OS/2 3.X and later just select SETTINGS.
  210.  
  211.     3.  Select the PRINTER DRIVER tab.
  212.  
  213.     4.  Display the pop-up menu for any printer object in the window by
  214.         pointing to the object and clicking mouse button 2.
  215.  
  216.     5.  Select INSTALL.
  217.  
  218.     6.  Insert the diskette containing the IBMPCL5 driver into drive A.  Make
  219.         sure that the directory field in the window contains A:\.  Then select
  220.         REFRESH.
  221.  
  222.     7.  Available Printer Driver Objects will be shown in the window.  Select
  223.         the printer driver that matches your printer.
  224.  
  225.     8.  Select INSTALL.
  226.  
  227.     9.  A message is displayed when the driver has been successfully installed.
  228.         Select OK.
  229.  
  230.    10.  Close the "Install New Printer Driver" window.  Select the IBMPCL5
  231.         driver that you have just installed as your default printer driver.
  232.  
  233.         Printer driver installation is now complete; continue with Section IV.B,
  234.         SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION
  235.         2.1+.

  238. III.B.   INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER WHILE CREATING A NEW PRINTER
  239.          OBJECT
  240.          ------------------------------------------------------------------
  241.  
  242.     1.  To create a new printer object as you install this new device driver,
  243.         double-click on the OS/2 system object to open the icon view.
  244.  
  245.     2.  Double-click on DRIVES.
  246.  
  247.     3.  Insert the diskette containing the IBMPCL5 device driver into the A
  248.         drive.
  249.  
  250.     4.  In the Drives window, double-click on drive A.  A window appears that
  251.         contains objects for the contents of the diskette.
  252.  
  253.     5.  Double-click on the IBMPCL5.DR_ object.  A window appears from which
  254.         you can select the printer model you want.
  255.  
  256.     6.  Drag the printer model from the window out to an available place on
  257.         your desktop.
  258.  
  259.     7.  Depending on which driver you are installing, a message may appear.
  260.         The message will ask if you want to install the Win-OS/2 driver.  You
  261.         must have your OS/2 diskettes to install the Win-OS/2 driver.  If you
  262.         choose to install the Win-OS/2 driver, select YES and follow the
  263.         instructions; otherwise, select NO.
  264.  
  265.     8.  Close the windows that were opened as you installed the driver.
  266.  
  267.     9.  To change the name of the printer object, press and hold the ALT key
  268.         while you click on the object name with mouse button 1.  In the name
  269.         field of the next window displayed, enter the printer name that you
  270.         prefer.  Click mouse button 1 while pointing to an open area of the
  271.         desktop to accept the new name.
  272.  
  273.         Printer driver installation is now complete; continue with Section IV,
  274.         SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.1+.

  277. IV.  SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.1 OR LATER
  278.      -----------------------------------------------------------------
  279.  
  280. The following steps should be followed before printing is attempted
  281. to ensure the driver settings match the configuration of your printer.
  282.  
  283.     1.  Display the pop-up menu for the printer object by pointing to it and
  284.         clicking mouse button 2.
  285.  
  286.     2.  Select the arrow to the right of OPEN; then select SETTINGS for OS/2
  287.         2.X, for OS/2 3.X and later just select SETTINGS.
  288.  
  289.     3.  Select the Printer Driver tab.
  290.  
  291.     4.  Open the pop-up menu for the IBMPCL5 device driver by clicking on the
  292.         object with mouse button 2.
  293.  
  294.     5.  Select the arrow to the right of open, then select SETTINGS.  The next
  295.         window is titled with the name of the printer you chose.  On this
  296.         window, you can:
  297.  
  298.           * Select the settings that describe the physical setup of your
  299.             printer.
  300.  
  301.           * Select the default characteristics for print jobs.
  302.  
  303.           * Select FORM CONNECTIONS... to specify the forms installed in each
  304.             paper tray on the printer.
  305.  
  306.           * Select FONT CARDS... to specify any font cards you have for the
  307.             printer.
  308.  
  309.           * Select DOWNLOAD FONTS... to specify any download fonts you have for
  310.             the printer.
  311.  
  312.           * Select OVERLAYS... to specify any download fonts you have for the
  313.             printer.
  314.  
  315.         Note that the Driver Version is shown in this window.
  316.  
  317.         After you have completed these settings, select OK to save this
  318.         configuration.
  319.  
  320.     6.  Close the printer settings window.
  321.  
  322.         The printer driver setup is now complete.

  325. V. UPDATING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER IN A LAN ENVIRONMENT
  326.    -------------------------------------------------------
  327.  
  328. For proper operation in Local Area Network environments in which the Lexmark
  329. printer is attached to the network server, the later version of the
  330. IBMPCL5 printer driver must be installed on the server before it is installed
  331. on any requester.  The later version (2.544) is able to use
  332. driver data coming from a requester with an earlier version (1.209b or 2.511).
  333.  
  334. It is possible to have the 16-bit driver (v1.209b) on a requester and the
  335. 32-bit driver (v2.544) on a server (or vice versa) without problems.
  336.  
  337. NOTE: Follow the steps in Section IV, SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER,
  338.       to determine the driver version currently installed.
  339.  
  340. The 32-bit driver requires the following CSD level when used in a IBM
  341. LAN Server environment:
  342. Requesters and server at LS CSD 6030 or later when used with LAN Server 2.0.
  343. Requesters and server at LS CSD 7001 or later when used with LAN Server 3.0.
  344.  
  345. NOTE:   To determine your CSD level, type SYSLEVEL at the
  346.         command prompt in an OS/2 window or Full Screen.
  347.
