  5. The EPSON Deuschland GmbH deveopment of the OS/2 driver is stopped.
  6. This version is at time the last version of our developer section and includes
  7. a completely new handling of the printer modell support.
  8. This version has some known problems:
  9.  
  10. - no printer internal fonts
  11. - problems with default settings especially with PMView and Lotus WordPro 96
  12. - the know margin problems are not solved
  13.  
  14. Urgent !!!! This driver will not work with older versions. Please deinstall
  15. the old driver and delete all of the driver.

  19. This printer driver has been developed by EPSON Deutschland GmbH. This
  20. particular version 1.020 supports the following printer models:

  49. Printer drivers with the extension (NLSP) are drivers which support particular
  50. printer models with a special character EPROM. These printer models and drivers
  51. are especially designed for use in the Eastern European market. The NLSP
  52. function only becomes apparent, however, when you select a printer resolution
  53. with built-in fonts. If you install an NLSP printer driver but do not have an
  54. equivalent printer model, your printouts may contain errors when you select one
  55. of the printer's built-in fonts.

  57. Hardware requirements:

  59. - Processor:        min. 486/33 MHz; Pentium recommended
  60. - Main memory:      min. 8 MB of RAM; min. 32 MB of Ram recommended (the more
  61.                     the better)
  62. - Hard disk space:
  63.     - Installation: 6,8 MB of available hard disk space
  64.     - Workstation:  Color printing at 720 dpi, DIN A4: approx. 80-100 MB of
  65.                     available hard disk space (with 32 MB RAM)
  66.  
  67. The required amount of hard disk space varies according to the amount of main
  68. memory installed (the more main memory, the smaller the swap file).
  69.  
  70. Special features of the printer driver:
  71. ***************************************
  72. - TrueColor RGB input alterable to 256 color pallet mode
  73.   (Attention: In 256 color pallet mode some colors may not match the
  74.   colors of the original, since in this mode the system pallet of OS/2 is used.
  75.   However, the printout is completed faster due to less data).
  76. - In-built printer fonts and code pages supported
  77.   (not supported for COLOR 400, 600, 800, 1520, 3000, Photo)
  78. - Halftoning with error diffusion (random dot pattern)
  79. - The EPSON Color Management system enables top-quality printouts in both b/w
  80.   and color. The output in TrueColor mode is an almost exact match of the colors
  81.   in the original.
  82. - EPSON gamma curves for each printer
  83. - MicroWeave technology for Stylus printers
  84. - User settings can be saved under unique names
  85. - The driver currently supports two languages (German/English)
  86. - Metafile spooling (depending on the application, the system becomes available
  87.   significantly faster and the printout is also completed faster)

  89. Notes on installation:
  90. **********************
  91. Please observe the following when installing the printer driver:
  92.

  96. - Run OS/2.
  97. - Make sure that all printer queues are empty.
  98. - Select the Icon DRIVES.
  99. - Double-click on your CD-ROM drive.
  100. - Double-click on the subdirectory OS2DRV.
  101. - Double-click on the file EPSONPRT.DR_.
  102. - Choose your printer with the right mouse button and keeping the right mouse
  103.   button pressed, drag the printer icon onto your desktop.
  104. - Choose the required language.
  105. - Attention!!!!: Do not close any windows during the installation procedure
  106.   and do not install more than one driver at the same time!!!! To make sure,
  107.   nothing interferes with the installation, wait until the entire installation
  108.   is complete. Please wait until the printer icon has been generated.
  109.   If you do not observe this warning, the driver may not be installed properly.
  110.   If an error message occurs during the installation procedure, delete the
  111.   driver and reinstall it.
  112. - To set the printer driver to be your default printer, click the right mouse
  113.   button on the Printer icon, choose Set default from the menu and select the
  114.   appropriate printer driver.
  115. - Select the desired interface by clicking the right mouse button on your
  116.   printer model, choosing Settings from the menu and clicking the Output button.
  117. - The installation is now complete.

  120. To modify the printer driver settings, click the right mouse button on the
  121. Printer icon, choose Settings from the menu and then Printer driver. OS/2 makes
  122. a distinction between printer settings and job settings. The job settings
  123. usually apply to all programs. To modify the printer settings double-click the
  124. icon of your default printer driver. You can now modify the printer properties.
  125. The modified settings become valid as soon as you exit the printer driver by
  126. clicking OK.

  128. To modify the job settings, click the Job properties button. You can now modify
  129. the job settings and save them under a desired name. As long as no program is
  130. running at the time, these settings are valid for all programs. However, if a
  131. program is running when you make your modifications, the settings will apply
  132. just to this single program and will be deleted when you exit the program.

  134. Note: If you are using a Pentium computer, you should change the priority for
  135. your print jobs to 40 - 55 before submitting your first print job. This is done
  136. via the Spooler icon to be found under System/Setup. A speed of 40 - 55 is
  137. perfectly sufficient for the hardware printing speed.

  140. Note: The first printout: If you are using TrueColor RGB input, it
  141. follows that the more main memory you have available the quicker the printout
  142. will begin. For example, if you print an A4 page consisting of graphics, the
  143. main memory available will be shared between OS/2, the program, the graphics
  144. file you are printing and the printer driver. An A4 graphics page in TrueColor
  145. and printed at 720 dpi can be as big as 134 MB in size before being compressed
  146. (image width x image height x horizontal print resolution x vertical print
  147. resolution x TrueColor). If you have less than 48 MB of RAM, an extensive
  148. swap file is created and your system is kept busy over a longer period of time.
  149. If you do a lot of graphics work, it is advisable, therefore, to install
  150. additional RAM in your computer (48 MB or 64 MB (recommended)).

  154. Known problems
  155. **************
  156. - Stylus COLOR: It is better to avoid using a combination of 360/720 dpi (no
  157.                 printer fonts), MicroWeave and Bidi, as these settings can
  158.                 result in faulty printouts.
  159. - IBM Works and DeScribe: The fonts are not provided with these programs as the
  160.                 printer fonts are not properly supported.
  161. - Warp 4.0 bug: Green and blue are exchanged. Solution: Click the WARP 4 button
  162.                 in the driver (this is the default setting when the driver is
  163.                 installed under Warp 4). Meanwhile, in other Warp 4 versions
  164.                 this bug is fixed, if so please deselect the flag.
  165. - DRAFT font:   At present, the printer's built-in font is not properly
  166.                 supported.
  167. - Lotus Freelance Graphics 2.1: At the time being you cannot print with this
  168.                 application. Release Freelance Graphics 96 works fine.
  169. - General:      Avoid to simultaneously create on two printers (via two
  170.                 interfaces) using the EPSON driver two color or two monochrome
  171.                 printouts at the same time.
  172. - General:      If you installed the driver completely NEW or as an UPDATE,
  173.                 select once for each installed printer model from this driver
  174.                 the printer properties and the print job properties,
  175.                 make your settings and exit the driver clicking "OK".
  176. - General:      We have found that you get an error if you select other codepages
  177.                 in OS/2 then 850 oder 437. It is possible that you can't start
  178.                 a printout.

  181. Special note
  182. ************
  183. - Slow output under StarOffice: The programs of StarOffice presently do not
  184.   support metafile spooling. You can see this from the printer icon which is
  185.   displayed gray (disabled) until the file has been transferred completely to
  186.   the driver.
  187.   Until the printer icon is displayed in black (enabled) again, the
  188.   print data have not been transferred to the driver and the driver cannot
  189.   start the printout. In the actual version 4.0 you can select metafile spooling
  190.   manually if you open the file SOFFICE.INI, search for the part [common] and type
  191.   in under this part MetafilePrint=1. Perhaps if you have installed an interim
  192.   update of this version this will be done automaticlly.

  201. As you know that the development of the driver is stopped and we can't give 
  202. anybody the source code of the driver you can send us the problems which you 
  203. found within the driver but we do not know if we can solve the problems in the
  204. future:
