IBM 4039 LaserPrinter 16L plus
Lexmark 4047 5E
This driver is for use with IBM OS/2 versions 1.3, 2.0 and 2.1. It operates
the printers in Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet series III printer command
language (PCL 5) mode and supports the multiple graphic resolutions, multiple
paper sources, font cards and download fonts available.
To use this printer driver with an IBM 4029 series printer, you must have a
PCL5 Emulation Option installed.
NOTE: All workstations should have an OS/2 level of:
XR05050 for 1.3 SE (1.30.2) WR05050 for 1.3 EE (1.30.2)
XR02000 for 2.0 XR02010 for 2.1
or greater. To determine your OS/2 level, type SYSLEVEL at the
C:\ prompt in an OS/2 window or Full Screen.
II. PREPARING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER
-----------------------------------
When you executed the self-extracting file, OS2PCL5.EXE, the following 8 files
were created:
SETUP.CMD PCL5H.EA
README.1st (this file) PCL5H.NEA
PCL5D.EA PCL5F.EA
PCL5D.NEA PCL5F.NEA
Copy the files listed above to a 1.44 MB (or larger) diskette for ease of
installation as well as to provide an automatic backup. Do not change
the file names when copying them to the diskette. If you receive more
than one device driver package, the files provided with each package should
be copied onto a separate diskette to avoid intermixing code or documentation
files from different device driver packages.
The driver was partitioned to avoid loss of vital information. You must run
the utility, SETUP.CMD, provided in this package to reassemble the files for
installation and use with OS/2.
SETUP must be run in an OS/2 session. SETUP will not execute in a DOS window or
on a DOS workstation. To run SETUP:
1. Switch to an OS/2 session.
2. Insert your device driver diskette containing the files listed above
into the diskette drive.
EXAMPLE: Insert diskette into drive A.
3. Make that diskette drive the current drive.
EXAMPLE: Type A: and press Enter.
4. Run SETUP.
EXAMPLE: Type SETUP and press Enter.
5. SETUP combines the original files into 3 new files. These files should
only be copied using an OS/2 workstation. The driver will not install
properly on OS/2 if the files are copied using a DOS workstation. The
OS2PCL5.EXE and SETUP.CMD files are no longer needed and may be erased.
The 3 files included with this package are:
FILE SIZE DATE CONTENTS
IBMPCL5.DRV 572,176 6/21/94 The Presentation Manager printer
driver that supports PM and non-PM
applications.
IBMPCL5.HLP 67,990 6/21/94 On-line information on setup
and use of the IBMPCL5 driver.
PCL5_FCF.DLL 21,536 6/21/94 Font metric data for selected
IBM LaserPrinter cards.
7. If you are using OS/2 version 1.3, continue with Section III.A. If
you are using OS/2 version 2.0 or 2.1, continue with Section III.B.
These sections contain unique steps required to properly install this
driver. Jobs will not print UNLESS these instructions are followed.
III.A. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3
--------------------------------------------------------
The following steps must be followed to correctly install the IBMPCL5
device driver on OS/2 Version 1.3:
1. Your CONFIG.SYS file must contain the statement IOPL=YES for the
IBMPCL5 device driver to install correctly. If the statement is not
in your CONFIG.SYS file, you must perform the following two actions:
* Add the statement IOPL=YES at the end of your CONFIG.SYS file.
* Restart your system (Press and hold CTRL and ALT and press DELETE).
2. If the IBMPCL5 device driver is already installed on your system, you
must do the following two actions prior to installing the new version
of the IBMPCL5 printer driver:
* Print or cancel all jobs in all queues that use the IBMPCL5 device
driver.
* Restart your system (Press and hold CTRL and ALT and press DELETE).
3. Select the Print Manager program.

10. On the Printer Installer window,
* Select the port to which your printer is attached.
* Specify a name and brief description for the printer.
* If this is the printer you typically use, select the Make Default
checkbox.
* Select OK to create a new printer name and queue. If you press
CANCEL, a new printer and queue will not be created.
11. Select SETUP on the Print Manager window and do the following steps:
* Select PRINTERS... to display the Printers window.
* Select the printer (for example, "IBMPCL51") that uses the IBMPCL5
device driver.
* Select CHANGE... to display the Change Printer window.
* Select the printer you have just installed. (For example,
"IBM 4029.IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 5E").
* Select PRINTER PROPERTIES.
* On the dialog that appears, check that the version number is 1.156a.
* If the version number is 1.156a, then exit these dialogs and
continue with Section IV.A, SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER
AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3.
* If the version number is not 1.156a, then perform step 12.
12. Copy the IBMPCL5.DRV and IBMPCL5.HLP files from your diskette into
the directory containing the old IBMPCL5.DRV file (for example,
C:\OS2\DLL\IBMPCL5 or C:\OS2\DLL\LEXMARK\PCL\IBMPCL5). Continue with
Section IV.A, SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER
ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3.
III.B. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X
--------------------------------------------------------
The following steps must be followed to correctly install the IBMPCL5
device driver on OS/2 Version 2.0 and OS/2 Version 2.1:
1. If the IBMPCL5 device driver is already installed on your system, you
must do the following two actions prior to installing the new version
of the IBMPCL5 printer driver:
* Print or cancel all jobs in all queues that use the IBMPCL5 device
driver.
* Shutdown your system by pointing to an open area on the desktop and
clicking mouse button 2. From the pop-up menu that will appear,
select SHUTDOWN. When a message appears that says that the
system has been shutdown, restart your system (press and hold CTRL
and ALT and press DELETE).
2. If you are installing the printer driver for use with an existing
printer object, follow the instructions outlined in section III.B.A
