  64. This is a release of the Hewlett-Packard HPPCL5E printer 
  65. driver with support for the HP LaserJet 4/4M printer, which 
  66. includes 600 dpi printer resolution, HP-GL/2, resident TrueType 
  67. font technology and the resident Intellifont typefaces.

  75. To install Hewlett-Packard HPPCL5E printer driver version 
  76. 30.1.04 for Windows 3.0
  77.  
  78. NOTE:  If you intend to use HP Intellifont for Windows to
  79.     produce screen fonts for the Intellifont typefaces in the
  80.     HP LaserJet 4/4M, you must install Intellifont for Windows
  81.     BEFORE installing the printer driver.  Please refer to
  82.     the Intellifont for Windows instructions.

  84. 1.  Choose the Control Panel from the Main Group in Program
  85.     Manager.
  86. 2.  Choose the Printers icon from the Control Panel window.
  87.     The Printers dialog box appears.
  88. 3.  Choose the Add Printer button.
  89. 4.  From the List of Printers dialog box, select unlisted
  90.     printer (last printer in list).
  91. 5.  Choose install.
  92. 6.  Insert the driver disk labeled HPPCL5E version 1.04 
  93.     into your flexible disk drive and specify the
  94.     corresponding directory for the 3.0 version of Windows.    
  95. 7.  Highlight "HPPCL5E.DRV" in the Installed
  96.     Printers dialog box.
  97. 8.  Choose Configure.
  98. 9.  Highlight the correct printer port from the Ports list box.
  99. 10. Choose Setup.
  100. 11. Make any necessary changes in the Printer Setup screen to 
  101.     reflect your printer's configuration.
  102. 12. Choose OK twice.
  103. 13. Choose Active.

  112. The Hewlett-Packard HPPCL5E Printer Driver version 30.1.04
  113. includes support for the HP LaserJet 4/4M printer and the
  114. following new features:
  115.  
  116. Support for 600 DPI Printer Resolution.
  117.     The user can switch between 300 and 600 dpi printer 
  118.     resolution via the switch in the setup dialog of the
  119.     driver. 
  120.  
  121. Support for Graphics Quality.
  122.     At 600 dpi mode in the LaserJet 4/4M, the driver supports 
  123.     graphics resolutions of 600, 300, and 150 dpi.  At
  124.     300 dpi mode the driver supports 300, 150, and 75 dpi.
  125.     The actual graphics resolution settings are denoted by
  126.     the descriptive terms of Low, Medium, and High rather 
  127.     than the actual dpi.

  129. Support for the TrueType typefaces.
  130.     All the resident TrueType typefaces in the HP
  131.     LaserJet 4/4M printer are supported.  Other TrueType 
  132.     typefaces are supported by building outlines from 
  133.     the typeface and downloading the characters needed on the 
  134.     fly.  All of the internal TrueType typefaces in the HP 
  135.     LaserJet 4/4M printer are supported in the 19U symbol set
  136.     with the exception of Wingdings in L$ and symbol in AS.

  138.     Hewlett-Packard has made the TrueType format screen
  139.     fonts available for the 35 Intellifont format typefaces
  140.     in LaserJet 4/4M.  These screen fonts are available through
  141.     your local Hewlett-Packard dealer and are not included in 
  142.     this package.  TrueType equivalent screen fonts allow for a 
  143.     more closely integrated Windows 3.0 solution.

  145. Support for the internal Intellifont typefaces.
  146.     All the internal Intellifont typefaces in the HP LaserJet
  147.     4/4M printer are supported in the 19U symbol set.  To 
  148.     obtain WYSIWYG results, use HP Intellifont which supports
  149.     on-the-fly screen fonts to match your printer fonts in
  150.     either Windows 3.0.

  152. Support for HP-GL/2
  153.     Support for HP-GL/2 is in version 1.04.  Under the Options
  154.     Dialog in the Printer Setup, a new option of "Graphics 
  155.     Mode" is available.  Two options are present:  HP-GL/2 or
  156.     Raster.  The first choice enables HP-GL/2 which will 
  157.     increase print performance but may possibly cause 21 Print 
  158.     Overruns in some applications. The second choice disables 
  159.     HP-GL/2 and uses raster only.  The default for Graphics Mode 
  160.     is HP-GL/2. 
  161.  
  162.     If you do encounter print difficulties in the default 
  163.     Graphics Mode, it is recommended that you change the 
  164.     mode to Raster and try your print job again.  Additional 
  165.     information on this topic may be found in the help files
  166.     that accompany this driver.  Choose Help from the driver
  167.     dialog screens or the HP font installer screens to access
  168.     the HELP information.

  170. Dialog Support for RET
  171.     Another feature added to the Option Dialog is the 
  172.     Resolution Enhancement technology box.  The options here
  173.     are:  Printer Default, Light, Medium, Dark, and Off.
